Melechesh/Sentinels Of Shamash/Reigning Phoenix Music/2026 EP Review

International band Melechesh have returned with a new recording which shows the music going for a Mesopotamian themed form of black metal and this is a review of their 2026 ep "Sentinels Of Shamash" which will be released in April by Reigning Phoenix Music.

A very heavy and aggressive sound starts off the ep while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. You can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on the recording along with the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams mixed in with a few growls and all of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.

When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can also be heard while the solos and leads are also done in more of a melodic style. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the songs also updating the bands musical style for the modern era.

Ritualistic percussion and clear singing can also be heard briefly and some of the riffing also shows an influence of thrash metal as well as adding in a small amount of tremolo picking.. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Mesopotamian History, Sumerian Mythology and Occultism themes.

In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Melechesh and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "The Seventh Verdict".

Melechesh/As Jerusalem Burns...Al'Intisar/Vic Records/2018 CD Re-Issue

Melechesh are a band from Israel that has had an album reviewed before in this zine and on this recording played more of a raw and satanic form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 1996 album "As Jerusalem Burns,,,Al'Intisar" which will be re-issued on February 23rd by Vic Records and also consists of their 1996 ep "The Siege Of Lachish".

A very dark yet heavy intro starts off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats along with some high pitched black metal screams as well as all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.

Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the riffs also bring in a great amount of dark sounding melodies along with a couple of the tracks being very long and epic in length as well as some of the songs also bringing in a small amount of middle eastern style scales.

As the album progresses demonic growls can also be heard briefly while the percussion's when they are utilized on a song gives the music more of a tribal, shamanistic and ritualistic feeling along with some melodic vocals being used on a couple of songs and when solos and leads are finally utilized they stick to a very raw style, spoken word parts can also be heard briefly.

On this recording Melechesh played more of a raw style of black metal which only had a small touch of middle eastern music which they expanded on later releases, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism and Mesopotamian Magick and Mythology.

In my opinion this was a very great sounding album from Melechesh and if you are a fan of raw satanic and occult black metal, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Assyrian Spirit" "The Sorcerers of Melechesh" "Devil's Night" and "The Siege Of Lachish". 8/5 out of 10.

Melechesh/Emissaries/Osmose Productions/2007 CD Review

Melechesh are a band from Israel that later relocated to The Netherlands with a music style that I would describe as being Middle Eastern influenced occult black metal and this is a review of their 2007 album "Emissaries" which was released by Osmose Productions.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a lot of brutal blast beats being thrown in and some percussion being used at times, while the bass playing has a very heavy tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars along with some powerful bass lines being used at times, as for the middle eastern instruments when they are utilized they bring an Arabic feel to the music.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that also take influences from middle eastern music as well as thrash and traditional metal, while the lead guitars have a traditional metal feeling to them, as for the 12 string guitars when they are used, they bring a darker feel to the music.

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams with some clean singing vocals being thrown in at times and some pagan/occult chants mixed in with some occasional death metal growling, while the lyrics cover Sumerian Occultism and Cabalistic Magick, as for the production it has a very professional and heavy sound to it.

In my opinion this was another great album from Melechesh, and if you are a fan of this band, you probably already own this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ladders To Sumeria" "Touching The Spheres Of Sephiroth" "The Scribes Of Kur" and "Emissaries And The Mysterium Magnum". RECOMMENDED BUY.
