Eldritch/Thalassophobia/2025 EP Review

  This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  United  Kingdom's  solo  artist  Eldritch  which  shows  the  music  moving  away  from  the  black  metal  style  of  earlier  releases  and  focusing  more  on  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient,  electronic  music,  dungeon  synth  and  experimental  and  the  ep  was  self  released  in  2025  and  called  "Thalassophobia".

  Dungeon  synth  style  synths  start  off  the  ep  while  also  adding  in  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  and  also  adding  in  elements  of  dark  ambient.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  most  of  the  recording  also  sticking  to  an  instrumental  musical  direction.

  Electronic  sounds  are  also  utilized  at  times  while  the  music  also  has  its  experimental  moments  and  each  track  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other  and  also  captures  the  atmosphere  of  a  cosmic  horror  movie  soundtrack,  programmed  beats  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

  On  this  recording  Eldritch  moves  away  from  the  black  metal  style  of  earlier  releases  and  focuses  more  on  a mixture  of  dungeon  synth,  dark  ambient,  electronic  music  and  experimental  as  well  as  keeping  everything  instrumental  while  the  song  themes  are  inspired  by  the  writings  of  H.P  Lovecraft.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Eldritch  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient,  dungeon  synth,  electronic  music  and  experimental,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Yuggoth,  The  Warm  Seas"  and  "Twenty-Third  Nebula".  8  out  of  10.

Eldritch/Altar Of The Nameless One/2022 Full Length Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  United  Kingdom's  solo  project  Eldritch  and  the  album  was  self  released  in  2022  and  called  "Altar  Of  The  Nameless  one".

  Synths  start  off  the  album  which  also  add  in  elements  of  dungeon  synth  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  guitar  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style. 

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  classic  Finnish  tradition.  Spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  the  recording  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Clean  playing  is  also  added  on  one  of  the  tracks  along  with  some  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  one  song  also  being  an  instrumental,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  writings  of  H.P  Lovecraft.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding album  from  Eldritch  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Engulfed  By  A  Horde  Of  Shadows"  "Where  The  Dead  Wait  Dreaming"  and  Cosmicism".  8  out  of  10.

Eldritch/I Shall Raise My Burning Sword/2022 Full Length Review

  Eldritch  are  a  solo  project  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2022  album  "I  Shall  Raise  My  Burning  Sword".

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era.

  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Spoken  words  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  synths  also  being  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  one  track  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  clear  singing.

  Ekdritch  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  aggressive  and  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era  of  the  genre.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Fantasy,  Mythology  and  Darkness  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  Eldritch  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I  Shall  Raise  My  Burning  Sword"  and  "Hearken,  Calling  Of  The  Night  Sky".  8  out  of  10.
