Funeral Mist/Deiform/Norma Evangelium Diaboli/2021 CD Review

Sweden's  Funeral  Mist  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  orthodox  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Deiform"  which  was  released  by  Norma  Evangelium  Diaboli.

A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  the  sounds  of  thunder  in  the  background.  Gregorian  chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

Angry  shouts  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  also  have  a  very  dominating  presence  at  times  as  well  as  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are utilized,  synths  and ritualistic  style  drum  beats  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  and  one  track  also  adds  in  a  brief  use  of  children  choirs  and  the  closing  track  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  The  Nature  Of  Divinity  and  Mortal  Existence.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Funeral  Mist  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Twilight  Of  The  Flesh"  "Children  Of  the  Urn"  and  "Into  Ashes".  8/5  out  of  10.

Funeral Mist/Hekatomb/Norma Evangelium Diaboli/2018 CD Review

Funeral  Mist  are  a  solo  project  from  Sweden  that  has  had  an  album  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  satanic  and  orthodox  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2018  album  "Hekatomb"  which  was  released  by  Norma  Evangelium  Diaboli.

Spoken  word  parts  along  with  some  demonic  voices  and  an  evil  background  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  some  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  before  going  into  a  very  fast  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling.

Vocals are  mostly  hateful  and  angry  sounding  black  metal  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  tracks  also  adding  in  melodic  yet  ritualistic  chanting,  dark  sounding  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  a  few  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  chaotic  sounding  guitar  leads  are  added  into  the  music  and  when  synths  are  utilized  they  give  the  music  more  of  an  occult  atmosphere.

On  this  recording  Funeral  Mist  takes  his  orthodox  black  metal  sound  to  a  different  level  while  also  keeping  the  raw  aggression  that  was  present  on  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  darkness  and  occultism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Funeral  Mist  and  if  you  where  a  fan  of  his  previous  material,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Naight  But  Death"  "Metamorphosis"  and  "Pallor  Mortis".  8/5  out  of  10.

Funeral Mist/Maranatha/Ajna Offensive/2009 Cd REVIEW

Funeral Mist are a black metal band from Sweden that I would describe as raw Satanic religious black metal and is the main project of Mortuus better known as the lead singer of Marduk and this is a review of their 2009 album "Maranatha" which was released in 2009.

Drums on this album are mostly fast blast beats with some occasional slow to mid paced drumming while the bass playing is all dark and primitive sounding which gives the music a very heavy edge.

Rhythm guitars on this cd cover plenty of ground with some slow to mid paced riffing that has a very occultic feel with some fast black metal riffing while the lead guitars sound very distorted with little or no guitar solos.

Vocals are in the high pitched black metal scream vein with some distorted vocals that sound deep and at times the singer sounds like he is getting strangled to death with some occasional clean vocals mixed with female operatic vocals that are sound by a choir, at times there  are spoken word parts that sound like Pat Robertson losing his mind, while the production sounds very professional but yet still raw in a non commercial vein captures all the sounds of the instruments, as for the lyrics to cover a biblical version of Satanism that is very Orthodox and satanic which seems to be the style in Sweden nowadays.

In my opinion this is a good album from Funeral Mist and if you are a fan of Unorthodox Satanic Occultic black metal you will not be disappointed.

Standout tracks incluce"Sword Of Faith" and "Jesus Saves".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
