Blasphemy/Gods Of War/Nuclear War Now Productions/2018 CD Re-Issue Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  old  recording  from  Canada's  Blasphemy  which  also  showcases their  earlier  style  of  war/black  metal  and  the  album  was  originally  released  in  1993  and  called  "Gods  Of  War"  with  the  re-issued  being  released  in  Noember  of  2018  by  Nuclear  War  Now!  Productions.

  A  war  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  war  metal  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  bestial  death  metal  growls  as  well  as  some  of  the  riffing  also  adding  in  elements  of  thrash  and  grindcore.

  A  lot  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  style  of  black  metal  while  the  riffs  also add  in  a  small  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  being  done  in  a  very  raw  and  chaotic  style  and  also  showing  an  influence  of  death  metal  and  as  the  album  progresses  some  of  the  songs  also  add  in  more  intro's.

  On  this  recording  Blasphemy  remained  very  true  to  their  early  style  of  war/black  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  war,  death,  satanism,  rituals  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  a  very  great  sounding  album  from  Blasphemy  and  while  long  time  fans  may  already  own  the  album,  I  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  bestial  black  and  war  metal.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Blasphemous  Attack"  "Nocturnal  Slayer"  and  "Empty  Chalice".  8/5  out  of  10.

Blasphemy/Blood Upon The Soundscape/Nuclear War Now! Productions/2018 Rehearsal Demo Re-Issue Review

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Canada's  Blasphemy  this  time  a  rare  rehearsal  from  1989  which  captures  their  very  raw  take  on  black  and  war  metal  and  the  demo  will  be  released  to  the  masses  in  September  by  Nuclear  War  Now!  Productions  and  called  "Blood  Upon  The  Soundscape".

  Distorted  amp  noises  along  with  some  evil  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  demonic  growls  start  off  the  recording  before  going  into  a  very  fast  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  harsh  noises  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  raw  and  chaotic  style.

  On  the  second  track  real  guitars  are  brought  into  the  music  and  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  tremolo  picking  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  and  early  war  metal  feeling  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  On  this  recording  Blasphemy  had  more  of  a  raw  approach  to  their  early  black/war  metal  by  making  the  music  more  distorted  and  harsh,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  war,  death,  Satanism,  rituals  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Blasphemy  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  rehearsal.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hording  of  Evil  Vengeance"  and  "Goddess  of  Perversity".  8  out  of  10.

Blasphemy/Blood Upon The Altar/Nuclear War Now! Productions/2018 Demo Re-Issue Review

  Blasphemy  are  a  band  from  Vancouver  B.C,  Canada  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  early  mixture  of  war,  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1989  demo  "Blood  Upon  The  Altar"  which  will  be  re-issued  in  September  on  vinyl  as  a  joint  effort  between  Nuclear  War  Now!  Productions  and  Ross  Bay  Cult.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  demo  giving  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  which  also  introduces  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams  onto  the  recording  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of blast  beats.

  Elements  of  war  metal  and  grindcore  can  also  be  heard  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  raw  and  chaotic  style,  synths  also  make  a  brief  return  as  the  demo  progresses  and  some  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  On  this  recording  Blasphemy  brought  in  their  early  mixture  of  war,  black,  death  metal  and  grindcore  which  would  later  influence  plenty  of  legendary  bands,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  war,  death,  Satanism,  rituals  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Blasphemy  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "War  Command"  "Ritual"  and  "Blasphemy".  8/5 out  of  10.

Blasphemy/Live Ritual: Friday The 13th/Nuclear War Now! Productions/2018 Live Album Re-Issue Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  live  recording  from  Blasphemy  which  was  originally  recorded  and  released  in  2011  and  was  also  in  their  style  of  war  and  bestial  black/death  metal  and  the  album  is  called  "Live  Ritual:Friday  The  13th"  and  was  re-issued  in  2018  by  Nuclear  War  Now!   Productions.

  Chaotic  sounding  guitar  leads  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavy  riffing  and  angry  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  as  well  as  some  bestial  growls  also  being  used  at  times.

  All  of  the  tracks  where  recorded  live  while  a  great  portion  of  the  songs  are  very  short  in  length  along  with  the  music  also  mixing  in  grindcore  elements  at  times  and  as  the  album  progresses  some  of  the  songs  also  start  bringing  in  a  great mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  music  always  remains  very  raw  and  heavy.

  On  this  recording  Blasphemy  got  back  together  after  an  8  year  hiatus  to  play  a  live  set  consisting  mostly  of  tracks  of  their  2  full  lengths  and  also  showing  the  younger  war  metal  bands  of  the  era  where  it  all  came  from,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  war,  death,  Satanism,  rituals  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  a  very  great  sounding  live  album  from  Blasphemy  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Blasphemous  Attack"  "Fallen  Angel  of  Doom"  "Desecration"  and  "Ritual".  8  out  of  10.

Blasphemy/Victory(Son of The Damned)/Nuclear War Now! Productions/2018 Rehearsal Album Review

  Blasphemy  are  a  band  from  Burnaby,  B.C,  Canada  that  are  one  of the  early  pioneers  of  war  and  bestial  black/death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  a  rehearsal  album  called  "Victory(Son  Of  The  Damned)"  which  was  recorded  almost  20  years  ago  but  finally  released  in  2018  by  Nuclear  War  Now!  Productions.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  shouting  style  vocals  while  the  music  brings  in  a  very  early  style  of  war  metal  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  chaotic  fashion  and  a  small  amount  of  melody  can  be  heard.

  Bestial  growls  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  songs  while  all  the  music  was  recorded  live  in  a  rehearsal  room  along  with  some  elements  of  grindcore  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  songs  start  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  they  also  keep  the  music  very  heavy,  raw,  brutal  and  evil  sounding.

  On  this  recording  Blasphemy  where  very  much  ahead  of  their  time  playing  a  musical  style  that  would  later  be  known  as  war  or  bestial  black/death  metal  and  creating  a  genre  that has  grown  a  lot  over  the  years  and  the  music  still  holds  up  today  and  is  also  more  brutal and  evil  than  most  modern  bands,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  war, death,  Satanism,  rituals  and  darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Blasphemy  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "War  Command"  "Goddess  Of  Perversity"  "Blasphemy"  and  "Ritual".  9  out  of  10.

Blasphemy/Fallen Angel Of Doom/Wild Rags Records/1990 Cassette Review

  Blasphemy  are  a  band  from  Vancouver  B.C,  Canada  that  where  one  of  the  originators  of  black/death/war  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1990  album  "Fallen  Angel  Of  Doom"  which  was  released  by  Wild  Rags  Records.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  great  amount  of  brutal  sounding  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  is  coming  out  of  the  guitars,  as  for  the  sound  effects  when  they  are  utilized  they  bring  a  very  dark  and  evil  sound  to  the  music.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  the  heaviest,  darkest,  raw  and  primitive  elements  of  black  metal,  death  metal  and  grindcore  to  create  their  own  form  of  war  metal,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  chaotic,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  black/death  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

  Vocals  are  mostly  deep  black/death  metal  growls  with  some  high  pitched  screams  and  whispered  vocals,  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Anti  Christian,  Occultism  and  Dark  themes, a s  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

   In  my  opinion  Blasphemy  are  a  very  great  sounding  black/death/war  metal  hybrid  and  if  you  are  interested  in  the  origins  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fallen  Angel  Of  Doom"  "Ritual" "Demoniac"  and  "Goddess  Of  Perversity".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
