Zeit/R.U.M.S/2025 EP Review

 

  Gerrmany's  Zeit  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  sludge,  doom  metal  and  techno  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2025  ep  "R.U.M.S".

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  electronic  beats  and  techno  elements  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.  Elements  of  doom  and  sludge  metal  are  also  mixed  in  with  the  slower  parts  of  the  recording  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  90's  style  hardcore  techno,  acid  house,  drum'n'bass  and  minimal  electro  touches  are  also  utilized  throughout  the  songs.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  introduced  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  spoken  word  samples  are  brought  in  briefly  and  the  closing  track  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  On  this  recording  Zeit  takes  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal  and  mixes  it  with  techno  and  other  forms  of  electronic  music  to  create  something  very  different  from  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  Nihilism  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Zeit  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  sludge,  doom  metal  and  techno,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Wunde"  and  "Immer".  8  out  of  10.

Zeit/Grollwerfer/357 Records/2024 EP Review

 

  Germany's  Zeit  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows   them  moving  away  from  the  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  goes  into  more  of  an  old  school  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  ep  "Grollwerfer"  which  was  released  by  357  Records.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  with  some  touches  of  black  metal  along  with  the  music  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  of  the  genre.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  tracks  also  stick  to  a  heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  Zeit  brings  in  more  of  an  old  school  death  metal  style  and  sounds  like  a  completely  different  band  from  previous  releases  with  all  of  the  black,  doom  and  sludge  metal  elements  being  gone.  The  production  sounds  very  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Zeit  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Grollwerfer"  and  "Sternenklar".  8  out  of  10.

Zeit/Ohnmacht/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Germany's  Zeit  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  sludge,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  album  "Ohnmacht"  which  will  be  released  in  April.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams.  Elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  also  being utilized  at  times  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.

  When tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  fast  riffing  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  At  times  the  music  also  adds  in  the  energy  of  punk  rock  and  grindcore,  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  whole  recording  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.

  On  this  recording  Zeit  goes  for  more  of  a  mixture  of  black,  sludge,  doom  and  death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Zeit  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  sludge,  doom  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Stein"  "Kette"  and  "Wellen".  8  out  of  10.

  Germany's  Zeit  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  black,  doom,  sludge  metal,  grindcore  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2021  ep  "Betonkrebs"  which  will  be  released  on  March  26th.

  A  powerful  sounding  bass  guitar  sound  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  direction  while  the  vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.  When the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  grindcore  elements  and  blast beats  can  be  heard  along  with  most  of  the  tracks  being  very  short  in  length.

  Germany's  Zeit  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  into  more  of   a  mixture  of  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2019  album  "Drangsal".

  A  very  slow,  dark  and  heavy  sludge  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  blackened  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  some  depressive  elements  can  be  heard  in  some  of  the  high  pitched  screams.  A  small  amount  of  melody  can  also  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard.

 On  this  recording  Zeit  goes  into  more  of  a  mixture  of  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal as  well  as  sticking  mostly  to  the  blackened  style  of  their  style.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Zeit  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Stirn"  and  "357".  8  out  of  10.

Zeit/Konvergenz/2017 Full Length Review

  Germany's  Zeit  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  that  continues  their  mixture  of  raw  black metal,  doom  and  sludge  and  this  is  a  review of  their  self  released  2017  album  "Konvergence".

  Clean  guitar  playing  along  with  drum  beats  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  faster  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs a  more  raw  feeling  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  tracks  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  slow  riffs  mix  in  elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  and  as  the  album  progresses  touches  of  stoner  metal  can  be  heard  at  times.

  Zeit  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  black  metal,  doom,  and  sludge  mixture  of previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Zeit  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal,  doom  and  sludge,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Verzerrt"  "Trub"  and  "Latenz".  8  out  of  10.

Zeit/Gram/2016 EP Review

  Zeit  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  depressive  black  metal  and  sludge  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2016  ep  "Gram".

  Drum  beats  and  a  heavy  yet  melodic  guitar  sound  starts  off  the  ep  and  a  few  seconds  later  grim  black  metal s creams  make  their presence  known  on  the  recording  while  the  slow  riffing  mixes  in  a  lot  of  elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  it  brings  in  more  of  a  raw  style  of  black  metal.

  Tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of t he  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  while  the  music  does sound  very  modern  you  can  still  hear  a  lot  of 90's  second  wave  influences  being  mixed  in  throughout  the  recording  and  solos  and  leads  are  only  used  briefly  while  the  whole  ep  also  sticks  to  a  heavy  musical  direction  from  beginning  to  ending  of  the  recording.

  On  this  recording  Zeit  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  the  depressive,  raw  and  old  school  styles  of  black  metal  and  mixes  them  together  with  a  touch  of  sludge  to  create  a  very  dark  yet  heavy  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  urban  solitude  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording from  Zeit  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  depressive  black  metal  and  sludge,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Verloren"  and  "Dort".  8  out  of  10.

Zeit Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

The band was actually formed in 2010 after Fur and I jammed a lot in my apartment. It all started with a couple of headphones, my lousy e-drum kit and a guitar. We just started writing stuff and soon found out that we can work well together. In that set-up we released our first self-titled demo in 2013. You still can find some videos of that period.
With a few gigs coming in at the time we decided that we were in need of a bass player and so we brought in our friend Flakmann.

2.So far you have released 3 ep's, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings?

Our aim was to get a natural and organic sound which is why we have recorded the last two EP’s in a live setting. We want to represent a sound that we can provide live without layered guitars or faked drums.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

We have kind of urban topics that deal with living and dying in a world filled with strangers and concrete. Maybe you can call it collective loneliness.

4.I know that the bands name means 'time' in German, how does this name fit in with the musical style that you play?

Well, time is relentless and the impetus to everything.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

We played Stahlfest in Leipzig earlier this year which was quite a blast. For our stage performance: Come and find out.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

There will be some shows at the end of the year and maybe a tour in 2016. But there are no final plans yet.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

It is not our first goal to get onto a label but if someone shows interest, we will have to discuss whether it’s usefull for us or not.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

So far we had good feedback especially for "Trümmer". Most people are surprised by the diverse influences but seem to get into our style of blending these different musical ideas.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a a part of?

A few are on hold and others are working well too. But I think that I can speak for the whole band when I say that the main musical focus is ZEIT.

10.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

At the moment we are working on a third and final EP of our "Wintersturm"-trilogy which will be released later this year if everything works out as planned. A full-length is planned afterwards but without any time schedule yet.
The future is not planned out, so we will all see together in which way we are heading. There will always be Black Metal in the core that is for sure. Will we add some Glam Rock one day? Maybe not, but who knows?

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

There are a lot of influences. Everything you hear can inspire you in a positive and negative way. Either you want to make it better than what you have heard or you dig a style of making music. My influences reach from Tom Waits over Sleep to Electric Wizard, Dark Throne and Imperium Dekadenz. Every kind of music you hear influences your own work in my opinion.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

Hard to say because most things I do are in a way connected to music. Taking photos, visiting shows and writing. All stuff you need to be in the right mood for and music is the valve for this.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Zeit/Trummer/2015 EP Review

  Zeit are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a very  raw  and  depressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015 ep  "Trummer".

  A  very  distorted  guitar  sound  starts  off  the  ep  and  after  a  minute  and  a  half  the  music starts  going into  more  of a  black  metal  direction  along with  some  high pitched  screams  and  they  also  have  a  very grim feeling  to  them  at  times  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  stick  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  paced  musical  direction  while  they  also  have  their  fast  moments  which  also  gives  the  music  an  early 90's  second  wave  black  metal  feeling  as  well  as  utilizing  a  brief use  of  blast  beats  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  bring in  a small  amount  of  melody  while  some  of the  slower  sections  add  elements  of  doom  metal  into  the  songs.

  Zeit  plays  a  style of  black  metal  that  is very  raw  and  depressive  sounding  and while their style  is  very  modern you can also hear  some  old  school  elements  at  times,  the  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  yet  heavy  along  with  all  of  the  songs  being  recorded live  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover   dark  and  depressive  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Zeit  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  depressive  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Splitter"  and  "Moment  der  Klarheit".  8  out  of  10.
