Tetragrammaton/Descendere/2014 EP Review

  Florida's  Tetragrammaton  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  them  continuing  their  mixture  of  occult  black  metal,  sludge  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2014  ep  "Descendere".

  A  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  blast  beats  before  going  more  into  a  slower  doom  metal  direction  along  with  some  deep  screams  which  also  leads  to  the  band  mixing  doom  and  black  metal  together  along  with  some  elements  of  sludge  and  all  3  of  the  tracks  are  around  or  close  to  the  10  minute  mark.

    After  awhile  melodic  chanting  can  be  heard  briefly  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  giving  the  music  more  of  an  occult  and  ritualistic  feeling  and  there  is  also  a  perfect  balance  between  fast  black  metal  parts  and  slow  doom  metal  parts  and  there  are  also  a  small  amount  of  psychedelic  noises  being  utilized   at  times  which  also  gives  the  music  and  avant  garde  feeling  at  times  and  there  is  also  a  concept  of  sorts  with  all  3  songs  with  the  title  tracks  all  being  called  sermons  and  the  last  track  has  almost  a  punk  rock  feeling  in  the  beginning  riff.

  Tetrgrammaton  remain  true  to  their  mixture  of  occult  black  metal,  sludge  and  doom  metal  on  this  recording  creating  3  songs  that  are  very  dark  and  heavy,  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  heavy  sound  while  the  lyrics  cover  occult  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Tetragrammaton  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  sludge  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Third  Sermon".  8  out  of  10.

Tetragrammaton/Demo MMXIII Review

  Tetragrammaton  are  a  band  from  Florida  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with   a  musical style  that  combines  occult  black  metal, doom and  sludge  together and  this  is  a  review  of their  self  released  2013  demo.

  "Deluge"  begins  with  some  heavy  distortion  which  leads  to  some  slow,  heavy  and  dark  doom  metal  guitar  riffs  along  with some  drums  and  a  few  seconds  later  black  metal  screams  start  making  their  way  into  the  song  and  after  awhile  you  can  hear  some  dark  sounding  melodies  being  utilized  before  adding  in  some  guitar  leads  and  towards  the  end  the  song  starts  utilizing  some  sludge  style  shouts.

  "Tides  In  Coalesce"  begins  with  some dark  and  heavy  doom metal  guitar  riffs  along  with  some  drums  and  a  minute  later  you  can  hear  some  powerful  bass  guitars  and  melodic  riffing  which  also  leads  to  some  clean  singing  chants  before  going  into  black  metal  screams  and  then t he  music  gets  fast  with  some  blast  beats  and  primitive  guitar  riffing  being  used  briefly  before  going  into  a   mid  paced  direction  which  then  leads  to  the  song   switching  back  and  forth  between  slow  and  fast  parts.

  Song  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  occult  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  heavy,  raw  and  primitive  sound  while  you  can  still h ear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on this  ep.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Tetragrammaton  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal  mixed  with  doom  and  sludge,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Tides  In  Coalesce".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Tetragrammaton/Nuclear Hellfrost/Dying God Records/Eternal Warfare Productions/2013 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Florida's  Tetragrammaton  and  Indiana's  Nuclear  Hellfrost,  2  bands  that  have  been  featured  before  in  this  zine,  with  the  ep  being  released  in  2013  as  a  joint  effort  between  Dying  God  Records  and  Eternal  Warfare  Productions  and  we  will  start  of  the  review  with  Tetragrammaton  which  plays  a  mixture  of  occult  black  metal,  death  and  doom.

  Song  one  "A  Splintered  Self"  starts  off   with  a  very  fast,  raw  and  primitive  black  metal  riff  before  the  high  pitched  screams  and  dark  sounding  melodies  along  with  some  drum  blast  beats  kick  in  before  slowing  down  into  a  slower  melodic  part  which  leads  to  some  heavy  death/doom  riffing  kicking  in  before  switching  back  to  the  faster  and  melodic  parts  which  leads  to  a  powerful  guitar  lead  before  the  song  closing.

  Song  two  "The  Body  Ov  Light"  starts  of  with  some  semi  blast  beats  and  melodic  occult  black  metal  riffs  before  the  heavy  drone  distortion,  slowing  down  into  a  more  slow  black/doom  song  along  with  some  high  pitched  screams  before  going  into  some  atmospheric  elements  before  the  end  of  the  song  which  closes  with  heavy  reverb.

  Lyrics  on  their  side  of  the  recording  cover  Occultism  and  Hermetic  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  heavy,  raw  and  primitive  sound  where  the  bass  guitar  is  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Tetragrammaton  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal  mixed  in  with  doom,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of t he  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "A  Splintered  Self".  RECOMMENDED.

  Next  up  is  Nuclear  Hellfrost  which  plays  a  mixture  of  primitive  black  metal,  crust,  grind  and  thrash.

  Song  one  "Blasphemous  Onslaught"  starts  off  with  a  primitive  black/thrash  riff  before  the  drum  blast  beats  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  kick  in  as  well  as  some  d-beats  and  bestial  black/death  growls.

  Song  two  "Necrotic  Upheaval"  starts  off  with  a  satanic  ritual  before  the  black/thrash  riffs,  blast  and  d-beats  kick  in  as  well  as  the  high  pitched  screams  and  deep  growls  leading  up  to  an  all  out  black/thrash  assault  along  with  some  crustcore  style  shouts.

  Song  three  "Bombs  Of  Death"  which  is  also  a  Hirax  cover  starts  out  with  some  fast  thrash  riffs  and  blast  beats  before  the  black  metal  screams  and  deep growls  kick  in  until  the  mid  paced  crossover  riffing  kicks  in  which  leads  to  a  chaotic  sounding  chaotic  lead  before  switching  to  the  mid  paced  format  before  speeding  up  towards  the  song.

  Lyrics  on  their  side  of  the  recording  cover  Satanism,  and  Blasphemous  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  raw  and  primitive  sound  with  the  bass  playing  being  mixed  down  low  in  the  mix.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Nuclear  Hellfrost  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  primitive  black  metal  mixed  with  crust  and  thrash,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Necrotic  Upheaval".  RECOMMENDED.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black  metal,  doom  and  crust.  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Tetragrammaton Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

1. We're a 4 piece black metal/doom band from Miami, Florida.

2. How would you describe your musical sound?

2. I always liked to say "Blackened Doom" but for the sake of humor we tend to describe everything as "weed".

2. Definitely, weed. Weed's our 5th Beatle

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

3. Sex magick, human frailty, transcendence and smoking weed.

4. I know that the band name came from the Cabala, what was it that inspired you to use this name and can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the many different forms of the occult?

4. We wanted to do something that was an entity of it's own, and the Tetragrammaton was merely a channeling of that

energy, but it also comes from the chorus from one of my favorite Celtic Frost songs, "Ain Elohim". And as for our practices, we all have our different methods but personally I utilize tarots and other symbol oriented meditations.

4. We wanted something singular, monolithic, and powerful; what's more powerful than the hermetic idea behind the Infinite Being? As for occult practices, I've been reading up on hypersigils - like Grant Morrison's The Invisibles - and how to incorporate that into our work. Should prove to be an interesting experiment

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

5. We haven't played too many shows, but one of our favorite ones was our first show as Tetragrammaton in our friends 

backyard for his birthday. It was very late, everyone was really drunk, and I'm pretty sure someone was coked out and the police made it just in time to stop us on the last riff.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?

6. Indefinitely, I'd really like to go to Europe, but maybe I'm looking too far into the future.

6. I have my eyes set on touring up to the Chicago/Midwest area. Idealistically, I'd love to tour the Northwest though since a lot of our favorite black metal and doom projects are coming out of that area now. 

7. According to the Facebook page , you are signed to Dying God Records, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

7. It's a label we started. We aren't exactly signed by any legal means, but it's basically an outlet we established to print and release our music and any other artist interested in working with us. We also try to add some other releases to our store to keep it interesting.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of occult, black and doom metal?

We're always very excited when we see people in the far reaches of Europe downloading, blogging our even liking our page, especially since we haven't even been a band for a year!

9. Are there any other musical projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?

9. Our drummer is in an absolutely relentless Power Violence band called Grit, our lead guitarist is in a Death/Thrash

band called Insurgency, and our bassist has been working on his solo drone/noise project VRTRA along with other projects like Northern Crown, and as for me, I'm in a Crossover thrash band by the name of Jungle Law.

10. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

10. It's hard to say, but we definitely want to start experimenting with more ambient elements, but in general just really

a clearer and more organized approach of or brand of Black Metal/Doom.

11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

11. Black Sabbath, first and foremost and then all the classic black metal bands like Darkthrone, Mayhem, Bathory

and Emperor. As for what we're listening to it drastically varies, anything from but not limited to hip hop, metal, 

hardcore, and punk.

12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

12. Really any other outlets of artistic work, cooking, going to shows, and recently a lot of strategy and rpg games.

  Tetragrammaton  are  a  band  from  Florida  that  plays  a  mixture  of  raw  and  primitive  sounding  occult black  metal,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2012  demo.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  raw  and  primitive  sounding  occult black  metal  with  doom  and death  metal  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  dark  sounding  black/doom  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads.

  Vocals  range  from  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  to  deep  death  metal  growls  with  some  spoken  word  samples  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occult  and  Nihilism  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  heavy  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

  In  my  opinion  Tetragrammaton  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  raw  and  primitive  black  metal,  doom  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should c heck  out  this  band.     RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sadist"  and  "Ov  Wither  And  Rebirth".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
