Audn are a band from Iceland that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2014 album which will be-issued on December 15th as a joint effort between Symbol of Domination Productions, Metallic Media and Black Plague Records.
Acoustic guitar playing starts off the album and after a few seconds the music starts getting more heavy and melodic along with some grim yet high pitched black metal screams and they also mix both the clean and heavy parts together and the solos and leads also use a great amount of melody and also bring in more of a modern atmospheric black metal sound.
Most of the music sticks to either a slow or mid paced musical direction while on some of t he songs the guitar riffing starts bringing in more raw tremolo picking as well as speeding up briefly and bringing in a small amount of blast beats as the album progresses and the clean playing also gives the music a progressive feeling when it is utilized and they also bring in one track that is very long and epic in length and closes the album with a live track.
Audn plays a style of atmospheric black metal that is very modern and guitar driven while also having its raw and grim moments, the production sounds very raw yet heavy at the same time while the lyrics are written in Icelandic and cover nature themes.
In my opinion Audn are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Undir Blodmana" "Landvaettur" and "Audn". 8 out of 10.
