Nekropsie was founded in 2013 by our previous drummer 'Imperator' in Heidenau, Germany. After years of musical style and bandmember changes we got finally completed when our singer 'Athâerus' joined in the beginning of 2017. That was the time we began focussing on creating a record.
With Nekropsie we're trying to capture the melodic diversity of black metal as well as the diversity of each instrument while trying to make it not sound too cliché yet keeping it as raw as possible.
2.In March you had released a new album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?
The guitars for example are tuned in Standard E with the focus of no tons of effects neither on the instruments nor on the vocals. There's no use of synths or anything similar either. Everything we create is everything we could perform live. The goal was to keep the record as close to our actual live performance as possible and we think we succeeded.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?
The main topic on the first album is decay as the title of the album already says. The decay of the individual as in "Gates Of Oblivion" as well as the decay of the mankind as a whole in "Damnation". Other topics are dark fantasy themes like in "Under A Crimson Moon" or "Child Of The Unlight".
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Nekropsie'?
The name 'Nekropsie' is the german word for 'Autopsy'. Our previous drummer came up with this bandname for the original bandconcept which was centered around serial killers. That idea never really worked out as the line-up changed during time but we decided to stick with the name.
5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the album cover?
The artwork was provided by 'Grasenstyle Blood Artworks'. The idea was to keep it fitting to the more of an oldschool type of a logo whilst making it minimalistic in a simple black and white styled concept. The main topic of the artwork would be 'Decay' since it's the lyrical center of the songs.
6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
The best as well as biggest show we have had so far was at 'Hellfest Meissen IV' back in 2018. It was kind of a big crowd for an noname underground band like us and we received a lot of positive feedback that day. The organizer was pretty impressed as well. According to his words he has "never seen the hall that crowded for an opening act before".
Other great shows were at the "Nacht der Wölfe" also in Meißen and the Metal Massacre in Annaberg-Buchholz. Small events with a strong underground vibe.
The stage performance is mainly focusing on the music. We don´t use any show effects. No severed pig-heads or burning crosses. The music speaks for itself.
7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
We already received offers but at the moment we decided to keep everything in our own hands. But if there is a label showing up which fits very well than a cooperation could be possible of course.
8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
We actually only received positive feedback as far as we can tell. But maybe the people who hate the records just didn´t tell...who knows.
9.Are any of the band members currently involved in any other bands or musical projects these days?
Actually all of us are. 'Athâerus' is providing the vocals in a band called 'Agonize'. 'Raven' as well as our new drummer are a part of 'Deciphering Sun' joining on guitar and drums. 'Butcher' is slaying the bass in three bands called 'Black Karma', 'The Low Men' and 'Stunner'. Our new guitarist even has his soloprojects 'Nurez' and 'Raute' on the run. He also contributes some of his skills in 'Akoasma' and 'Tausendstern'.
10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We're focusing on going more melodic ways with even more diversity. The next album is already finished to about 60% and will be much more atmospheric, progessive and epic. We still hold our Black Metal roots high but we are open minded to other styles of music as well.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Technically every genre influenced us. We have members listening to all kinds of black, death, technical, symphonic, melodic, heavy, stoner, doom and synth. Even pop, electronic and classical bands play a huge part. We're very open minded about that.
