Terzij de Horde are a band from t he Netherlands that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording went for a mixture of post black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2008 demo "Exposed, Barren And Often Windswept" which will be re-issued in February by Fiadh Productions.
Spoken word parts start off the demo before going into a heavier direction while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with the riffing also adding in elements of hardcore and melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. The slower sections of the songs also show an influence of doom metal along with the tracks also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, when clean playing is utilized it also shows an influence of post rock and some of the vocals also add in angry shouts, stringed instruments can also be heard towards the end.
On this recording Terzij de Horde played a musical style that took post black, doom metal and hardcore and mixed them together to create a sound that was ahead of its time as well as showing a direction many bands took over the years. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover mythology, religion, rebellion and existentialism themes.
In my opinion this was another decent sounding recording from Terzij de Horde and if you are a fan of post black, doom metal and hardcore, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Giant's Cave" and "The Roots of Doomsday Anxiety". 8 out of 10.
