Der Rote Milan/Verlust/Unholy Conspiracy Deathwork/2025 EP Review

 

  Germany's  Der  Rote  Milan  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw,  atmospheric  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  ep  "Verlust"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Unholy  Conspiracy  Deathwork.

  A  very  heavy  yet  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  Synths  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  and  the  songs  are  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  modern  era  of  the  genre,  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Der  Rote  Milan  goes  for  more  of  a  modern,  melodic,  raw  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  the  human  condition  and  the  poetry  of  Johann  Wolfgang  von  Goethe.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Der  Rote  Milan  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  melodic  and  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Aus  der  Finsternis"  and  "Der  letze  Rubin".  8  out  of  10.

Der Rote Milan/Schlund/Unholy Conspiracy Deathwork/2024 EP Review

 

  Germany's  Der  Rote  Milan  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  raw  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  ep  "Schlund"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Unholy  Conspiracy  Deathwork.

  A  very  dark  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in a   great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  riffs  also  add  in a   lot  of  melody.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  vocals  also  add  in  a small  amount  of  growls  at  times.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  a  couple  of    songs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  and  synths,  most  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  modern  era  and  clear  chants  are  also  added  on  the  closing  track.

  On  this  recording  Der  Rote  Milan  brings  out  a  very  raw,  modern  and  melodic  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  darkness  and  melancholy  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Der  Rote  Milan  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  melodic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Erloschen"  and  "Der  Herr  der  Schaben".  8  out  of  10.

Der Rote Milan/Moritat/Unholy Conspiracy Deathwork/2019 Full Length Review

  Der  Rote  Milan  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  raw  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  album  "Moritat"  which  will  be  released  in  2019  by  Unholy  Conspiracy  Deathwork.

  Acoustic  guitar  playing  and  atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  few  growls.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  whispered  vocals  also  being  used  briefly  as  well  as  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  a  great  amount  of  melody  can  also  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  and  acoustic  guitars  also  make  a  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  chanting  can  also  be  heard.

  On  this  recording  Der  Rote  Milan  goes  into  more  of  a  raw  and  melodic  black  metal  direction,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  real  life  stories  that  took  place  back  in  the  30  year  war  of  the  17th  century.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Der  Rote  Milan  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of r aw  and  melodic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Die  Habsucht"  and  "Moritat".  8  out of 10.

Der Rote Milan/Aus der Asche/2016 CD Review

  Der  Rote  Milan  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2016  album  "Aus  der Asche"  which  will  be  released  in  July.

  Field  recordings  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  ambient  elements  and  nature  sounds  while  the  music  gets  tribal  and  ritualistic  after  awhile  and  after  the  intro  the  music  starts  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  along  with  some  high  pitched  black  metal screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  during  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  it  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  and  deep  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  melodic  fashion.

  The  songs  also  bring  in  a  more  modern  style  of  the  genre.  and  the riffs  also  get  melodic  at  times  while  a  couple  of  tracks  introduces  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  recording  before  making  a  return  back  to  a  heavier  musical  direction  and  one  song  also  brings  in  a  few  seconds  of  spoken  word  parts  and  flutes  as  well  as  the  sounds  of  a  burning  fire  and  the  last  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Der  Rote  Milan  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  melodic  while  also  mixing  in  some  of  the  more  modern  forms  of  the  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  dark,  melancholic  and  poetic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Der  Rote  Milan  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  melodic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Nebel  Und  Regen (Fog  And  Rain)"  "Seelenansche (Ashes  Of  The  Soul)'  and  "Der  Abgrund  (The  Abyss)".  8  out  of  10.
