Nailblack/Envied/Redefining Darkness Records/2017 CD Review

Nailblack  are  a  band  from  Ohio  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  with  some  death  metal,  punk  and  blackn'roll  elements  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Envied"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Redefining  Darkness  Records.

A  very  heavy  and  raw  sound  starts  off the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  when  the  music  speeds  up  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  songs  also  bring  in a   great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

Most  of  the  music  is  rooted  in  the  90's  while  also  being  very  modern  at  the  same  time  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  as  well  as  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

When  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  fashion  and  the  music also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  black'n'roll  and  punk  elements  and  at  times  the  vocals  get  very  grim  sounding and  clean  playing  is  added  onto  the  closing  track  which  is  also  long  and  epic  in  length.

Nailblack  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  second w ave  tradition  while  also  mixing  in  a  more  modern  black'n'roll  edge  along  with  a  touch  of  punk  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  anti  religion  themes.

In  my  opinion  Nailblack  are  a  very  great  sounding  black  metal  band  with  touches  of  black'n'roll  and  punk  and  if  you  re  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kingdoms  Crumble"  "Pig  Digger"  and  "Step  Into  Infinity".  8  out  of  10.

Ancst/King Apathy/Supreme Chaos Records/Alerta Antifachista Records/2017 Split EP Review

This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Germany's  Ancst  and  King  Apathy  which  will  be  released  in  September  as  a  joint  effort  by  Supreme  Chaos  Records  Alerta  Antifachista Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Ancst  a  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  melodic  black  metal,  ambient,  and  crust  punk.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out with  atmospheric  soundscapes  which  also  adds  in  elements  of  ambient  as  well  as  the  riffs  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  when  they  are  added  onto  the  recording  which  also  leads  up  to  a  heavier  musical  direction  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  angry  screams.

Elements  of  post  hardcore  can  be  heard  in  the  music  at  times  and  when  the  music  speeds  up a   great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  some  elements  of  atmospheric  black  metal  while  a  great  amount  of  crust  and  d  beat  elements  can  heard  in  the  music,  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  the  first  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  while  the songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

Ancst  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  their  black  metal  and  crust  punk  mixture  of  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  political  and  social  capitalism  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ancst  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal  and  crust,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Gehenna  Of  Fire.

Next  up  is  King  Apathy  a  band  that  plays  a  melodic  mixture  of  post  black  metal,  crust,  metalcore  and  hardcore  punk.

Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  melodic  post  hardcore  style  guitar  leads  along  with  some  angry  screams  a  few  a  seconds  alter  that  mix  black  metal  and  metalcore  together  along  with  the  music  also  sounding  very  modern  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  some  elements  of  hardcore  punk.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  the  focus  being  more  on  a  mid  tempo  style,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Anarchism  and   Environmentalism themes.

In  my  opinion  King  Apathy  don't  do  much  for  me  with  their  post  hardcore  and  black  metal  mixture but might  appeal  to  fans  of  this  genre.

In  conclusion,  while  I  enjoyed  the  material  from  Ancst  I  could  not  get  into  the  following  band , so  I  can  only  recommend  the  first  side  of  the  split.  6/5  out  of  10.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  music  mixes  both  the  old  school  and  modern  styles  of  black  metal  together  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and clean  playing  is  also  used  at  times  as  well  as  the  track  being  9  minutes  in  length,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  philosophical  themes.

In  my  opinion  Tongue  are  a  very  great  sounding  Cascadian  influenced  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of t he  split.

In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  the  crust  influenced  and  Cascadian  styles  of  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  split.  8  out  of  10.

Novae Militiae Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?

During this period, we began to think about the next works we could achieve. We wondered about the concepts we would like to work on, the messages we would like to convey and how best to achieve them. The feedbacks about "Gash'khalah" exceeded our expectations, this album has aroused interest in black metal underground and a craze among a devoted public. This reinforces our determination and gives us the urge to go much further.

2. Recently you have released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

The sound is following on from our first demo album “Affliction of the Divine” to "Gash'khalah"the equipment used and the recording process are almost identical. However, we have made improvements: While keeping the same roots, "Gash'khalah" marks an evolution, it enjoys a more powerful and successful sound. We wanted to get closer to the sound of black metal productions of the 90's, the time of its greatest glories, while being able to compete, even surpass, the power of the current productions.

3. This is your first album since 2011, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time span?

In "Gash'khalah" we did not want to leave anything to chance. It took a lot of work and long periods of reflection. We wanted to release the most accomplished album possible. Sometimes, we put compositions aside for several years to come back with a new and more thoughtful look. We think it is better to release a very elaborate album rather than several unsuccessful ones that would leave us with the feeling of having released unfinished works. We wanted to mark the spirits with a more violent, darker black metal than the majority of the current groups, more involved in the way of the Left Hand Path. We want to distinguish ourselves from the current black metal bands, which tend to move towards an "opening" towards modern and original musical styles. Nowadays, more and more bands offer the listeners a simple distraction or pleasant sensations. It is not black metal as we perceive it. It must be absolutely dark, mighty, glorious, religious, rooted in death, and must encourage the listener in his spiritual enlightenment.

4. Your lyrical content is very heavily rooted in Occultism and the Left Hand Path, can you tell us a little bit more about you dedication to the dark arts?

I would say above all, that since very young, it was natural for us to orient ourselves towards the Left Hand Path. Whatever they say, I think it's natural for some people and we are definitely among them. In order to progress in our religious quest and in the treacherous path of knowledge, we studied a lot. First of all the religions: Christianity / Judaism in the broad sense, old Testament (Ezekiel, Joel, Zechariah, Daniel…), new Testament (Book of Revelation), texts, apocryphal gospels and apocalypses (Apocalypse of Ezra, First Apocalypse of James, the Book of Enoch…).

Other ancient religions inspire us like Zoroastrianism (1st millennium bc) with the character of Angra Mainyu, who incarnates the absolute evil, to whom we pledge allegiance. To define the absolute evil, I think of these words of the occultist French Eliphas Levi « The absolute affirmation of evil is the negation of God, since God is the supreme and absolute reason of good. Evil in the philosophical order is the negation of reason. In the social order, it is the negation of duty. In the physical order, it is the resistance to the inviolable laws of nature. » To quote this great master allows me to address other aspects of the Left Hand Path omnipresent in "Gash'khalah" and for which we have a great interest: That of occultism, Mysticism, Kabbalah and the Qliphoth. "Gash'khalah", the title of our album, means, according to the traditional death tree of the Golden Dawn referring to Aleister Crowley's 777, "The

Destroyer". To improve knowledge in all these areas is essential to understanding what theological Satanism can stem from.

5. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Novae Militiae'?

The name is inspired by the title of a book by Bernard de Clairvaux (French monk of the 12th century, who seeks the hardest mortification, in order to progress in the spiritual realm). De Laude Novae Militiae / Praise of the new militia (Written with the aim to legitimizing the crusades). Using a band name in the sacred language of the occident was important to me. "Novae" means the renewal, the starting point and "Militiae" means fighting with the aim of extermination. Otherwise, in Novae Militiae, the use of Christian references like Bernard de Clairvaux, the Stabat Mater (some texts and some images in our artwork are inspired from it) and the YHWH in the logo allows me to make a parallel between God and Satan. For Satan has His dwelling in the religions, in the synagogue of Satan as stated in the Apocalypse of St. John 2:9 / 3:9, and He presents Himself as an angel of light as indicated in the 2nd epistle of St. Paul to the Corinthian apostles 11:14. The stained glass window of the Saint Pierre church in Montfort-L'amaury (Yvelines / France) can testify to that. An anonymous glassmaker paints here the scene the temptation of Christ in the desert. Satan manifests Himself under the guise of a saint, dressed as a monk. Only one detail betrays Him, His feet are forked and red.

6. Nobody know the musicain behind the albums, do you feel having a mysterious identity makes the music have more of a back to roots approach to black metal?

I think a lot of bands had a mysterious aura in the 90's but it was not intentional for most of them. This is mainly due to communication that was far less developed than nowadays; information about bands was hardly accessible. Today, everything is different. The mystery has gradually disappeared with the arrival of the internet. Bands and labels are today in mass communication, to the point that, overwhelmed by the flow of information, we are no longer able to obtain truly interesting information. As far as we are concerned, we prefer to remain anonymous, we do not see the interest of disclosing the identity of our members because we think that the most important for a black metal band is its Art and the message that he unveils.

7. How would you compare working with 'Goathorned Productions', to your previous label 'Nihilward Productions'?

It is difficult for me to compare them because I have a great respect for both labels. I prefer to talk about their similarities. First, the desire to remain underground and to produce groups with strong ideologies. The releases of the two labels are produced on thorough supports and very limited in quantity. Almost all of their productions are now sold-out. I think that many labels, including the most important ones, will soon be inspired by these methods. Nowadays, labels in mass production find themselves in difficulty because sales are underperforming. The listeners wish to invest in polished and limited items that will gain value once sold-out. The great return of the vinyl format is a good example.

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

We had good feedbacks from "Gash'khalah" from around the world. As I said earlier, this album has aroused real craze among an initiated and devoted public. I think that today there is an expectation of black metal bands conveying strong ideologies to reappear, which partly explains the interest of groups like ours today.

9 .What do you feel makes you different from most bands in the modern occult black metal style?

I think that what differentiates us from other bands is the constant violence that emerges from Novae Militiae. From the first few seconds of listening, the listener understands that he is dealing with a band playing black metal that is more extreme and devoted than the majority of previous and present bands.

He won’t get any respite. Each title is worked in such a way that there is no positive moment. Each passage leads to an even darker passage. Today, I think that many bands are sincere in their art but few groups have an aura as black, mystical and striking as Novae Militiae. It is a total allegiance to evil.

10. Wheathere do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

I want Novae Militiae to go further in transcendence. I want the listener to be more troubled. We want to reveal and exploit his deep feelings buried deep within his soul to take him into black and total enlightenment.

11. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are yu listening to nowadays?

Our first influence is undoubtedly the Scandinavian black metal scene of the 90s, years during which we discovered black metal. Memories with time fade but some will never disappear, but I remember it was a new style of music that looked like nothing we had ever known before. The bands of black metal conveyed a very strong image and black metal, as we said before, released a mysterious aura and violence without limit... Being very young at that time, all this has impressed me tremendously. I try to incorporate these elements in Novae Militiae which are for me indispensable to the Black Metal Art.

Then I would say that we define ourselves as an orthodox black metal band. Therefore, some bands inspire us. I think of the album "Si Monvmentvm Reqvires, Circvmspice" of Deathspell Omega and the band Ofermod from which we enjoy all the albums.

Otherwise, I listen a lot to Acherontas's latest album ''Amarta अमर्त (Formulas of Reptilian Unification Part II)'', a band that I appreciate and have been listening for a long time (Stutthof period). I am very attentive to its evolution. My last discovery is LvxCælis with his latest album ''The Watchers'', this band really impressed me.

All of these bands influence us more or less directly. When we compose, we never tell ourselves that we want one of our titles to resemble that of such and such band but the spirit of these bands is in Novae Militiae without a doubt.

12 .Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

All my words and thoughts go to Him... A.M.S.G.

Arallu Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new album?

B: hello from Jerusalem , I'm Butchered the main member of the band .
We recorded our new album around January to march of this year. When we finished all including the album cover art we sent all to our label to start work for this new release and we out for our new tour around Czech republic, Slovakia and Germany of 9 shows with some songs from this upcoming album, now we're just waiting to see if people will like the album and we hope for invitations to perform from europe, the US and asia.

2.In September you have a new album coming out, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

B:  Musically, we describe our style as Middle Eastern black metal. We're inspired by the old school black metal roots mix with our special Middle Eastern elements. So I believe it's coming naturally inside our style because we live it since we was born.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?

B: The full concept of Arallu is around the ultimate war over the Middle East because we living it "SIX" like the other albums of the band is talking about the situation around the Middle East as it crawls to Europe and the US, and some personal issues we deal with our everyday life.
Like the song "Adonay" is talking about a simple man from Jerusalem killed by terrorist attack and left behind him a huge world of people who loved him, but actually this song was talking about the last days of my grandfather who really suffered before he died a few months ago…. He was my model and I really admired him. The song "Possessed by Sleep" that's about the murder of a little girl named Hilel Yafe Ariel while she was sleeping and the terrorist killed her in bed. When you live around Jerusalem and you have 3 children all you're thinking about is how to keep them safe in this horrible world. From the other aspect we have the song "Soulless Soldier" is about a soldier in the army service that is fighting the wars around Israel and when he killed a terrorist who tried to kill soldiers the government put him to trail for that. Its absurd. Arallu is the horn of the situation in the Middle East and specially the horn of the wars all around the years in Jerusalem. We don't look for paper news Headlines. We play and live black metal from the 90's.  Its more than a decade that Arallu screaming about the global terror. "Satanic War In Jerusalem" our second album from 2002 ,talking about the situation in Jerusalem that spread to the all-world. I write this album in 2001 when the Islamic terror attack everywhere in Israel and especially in Jerusalem. Unfortunately "Satanic War In Jerusalem become a self-fulfilling prophecy and today we all know it. "The War On The Wailing Wall" our debut album from 1999,was the mixed between our day life and extreme black metal Against religions. We play a risky music. Those who understand the main idea behind our music will like it but not every magazine really listens for what he received from bands all around the world. When I writing my music and  my lyrics I'm not looking for some victories.  This album talking about  the wars of today as ISIS are trying to destroy and kill anyone who doesn’t agree with their religious views. Like in the song "Only One Truth". Arallu concept is the mirror of the human race, hypocrisy of the governments all around the world including Israel, and the unwillingness and fear to fight against the extreme religion leaders. We live in the Middle East as u know. the situations here are not easy here in Jerusalem and Israel. We live in days of war religions, and religions hatred that inspired our music and lyrics. i mean I'm looking for something fresh ,something no one touched before.  Because our music is a mix with extremely black metal music and Arabian / Middle Eastern music is very hard to understand it in the first listening. Usually people who like extreme black metal don’t like the Middle Eastern parts and vise versa, when we wrote this album we knew its risky and we know it from the debut album from 1999, but Arallu always looks to bring something different to the global metal scene and we are doing it in a small steps…

4.I know that the bands name comes from Mesopotamian Mythology, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?

B: The name Arallu comes from the ancient  world in the Middle Eastern culture of Mesopotamia. He is one of the strongest demons that live inside the wailing wall under the golden dome and shocking the ground from Jerusalem to the entire world. The ground of Mesopotamia is Soaked with blood from ancient times until the battles of today. This  area is cursed by  the ancient demons and  peace will never see here. Arallu talk about exactly this, and the link between the ancient world and the modern world, that very much resembles each other. We wake up every day to new horror in our life, and we are explore the reasons why, and the religions process from then to today.
We come from Jerusalem and there's never been stability in the area, and I think never will be, but let's hope for good.

5.On the earlier albums a lot of the lyrics leaned more towards the occult and satanic side, do any of these practices still play a role in your life?

B: Arallu concepts never change. we are artist. to use always the word Satan or Lucifer is Meaningless, we trying  to describe the situation around the middle east . we  like to  use a big Vocabulary to explain the situation and not ro repeat ourselves.

6.In the beginning the band was a solo project, what was the decision behind forming a full line up?

B: to write the music was not a problem, I didn’t want to play alone. The human binges live as a society u knows. In groups. To play with more people is more fun.

7.In the mid 90's when you formed the band there was not many middle eastern black metal bands or many from Israel except for you and a few more famous ones, do you feel you have had a huge influence on the later black metal bands from your part of the world?

B: I think you're right .even if the bands don’t tell it they know it…

8.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

B: one of the best shows of Arallu for my opinion is the show with Behemoth in Israel of 2014, our show in "Metalgate fest" in Cz was great as well, and our release album show from "GENIEWAR" album as well. When the people react like a maniacs in your show u can know that is a good one. We bring 666% from ourselves every show . we play from our heart and u can see it in our YouTube channel. I think Arallu as a band give really cool shows.

9.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?

B: for now we have nothing for sure . we are in contact with a few metal festivals and Europe tour and its will be a honor for us to come play in your great country as well!

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of black and extreme metal?

B: some people like our music and some other hate it. When you're  working for a special sound its normally that u split the listeners into two groups. But I follow after the album reviews, and like our lasts album "GENIEWAR"  SIX touched people and we recieve great reviews all around the world so we are all happy.

11.Are any of the band members currently involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?

B: Omri and Assaf are involved in an Israeli alternative rock band name "fixed Stars" and Gal play guitar in the Israeli death metal band name "Lehavoth".

12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

B: we hope to keep with full force of creating unique music, and we really hope to play on the main stage of Brutal Assault and Hell Fest…. Who knows maybe we finally will do it….

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

B: Arallu main roots inspired by the old school black metal band as ,Venom, old Slayer, Bathory, Celtic frost .I'm inspired a lot from King Diamond, deicide, morbid Angel, I really liked the new Satyricon, the last album by Paradise Lost, Abbath, and Watain. The last Mayhem is great as well.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

B: thank u for your great interview , and for your great review and I hope to come play for u in the near future.

Holokauston Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?
1) Holokauston is a solo project, originating from India. This project focuses  on the concepts of Misanthropy greatly. I depict this by creating an early Greek drama within the lyrical structure. I discuss high philoshpical concepts thought over by controversial philosophers in the past. I also value Omnicide greatly. It's horrifying and interesting to me on a personal level. Such topics aren't seriously discussed in black metal. I have internally reached above religion. I expect the listener to be mature enough to have done so too. I am not ranting about Jesus and god. We discuss something of higher significance here. I started making music around the age of 13, I used to play early Slayer, Metallica and jam to all of these tracks alone. I am a quick learner. I couldn't afford recording equipment until I was 15, once I had all equipment it took me around a year to figure out mixing techniques. I got into heavier music because of the second wave of black metal. I eventually started out with bathory.

2.So far you have released a demo, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
2) My demo definitely aims for the raw sound, I believe demos are supposed to be raw rather the genre should remain raw. Black metal hasn't been as it was supposed to. I aim to introduce the listener to the roots again. I consider my riffing techniques quite unique. I have equipment capable to record very high quality over produced music, but I choose not to go for that sound. I am still a rebellion. I am in for ambient and clean guitar parts too. I prefer atmosphere in my songs as well as heavy riffing. The riffs in the demo definitely have a dual nature, they shift between atmosphere and solid bathory like fast paced power chords...
Coming to the lyrical themes, I mainly potray my internal sadness here. It's not some petty dsbm. This sadness is scaled to a nihilistic level. I had developed all this hate and aggression in an early age. I have always lived away from my native land, making me isolated in India's diverse land population and culture. This isolation forced me to think alot, I became a very internal person.... I focused on philosophy greatly. Nietzche had become my friend as I hit 15. Hence the lyrics demand some comprehension skills by the listener.

3.Your lyrics cover Greek Tragedy, Philosophy, Nihilism, and Omnicide, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in these topics?
3) When I started out reading some Western philosophy, let's say The birth of tragedy by Friedrich Nietzche. I learnt about several concepts which include The Oedipus Rex(After some research on Greeks Plays.), Hellinism, Nihilism, Übermensch etc Pessimistic philosophy hit me hard. Songs like 'Baptism of an Unknown Corpse' talk about leaving and sacrificing our mortal beliefs and moving over to something greater, of higher construct and value. I talk about the paradoxical ethics mortality gives us. Using some stereotype terms like Baptism makes this very ironic in a religion point of view.
I start out the demo with the track Creation, An Omnicide. Here I talk about the burden of life. The philosophy of this song is derived from the Hindu Concept of life origin. The birth in human form apparently is the lightest burden a mortal being has. Hence one should collect good karma to be reborn in human form. Accumulation of good karma eventually leads to moksha or enlightenment, which puts an end to the burden of life. But later the song gets darker. I talk about accumulating bad karma and creating an eternal series of lives. This is just hypothetical, but forces one to think.  An Omnicide gives you partial immortality, since you can't escape the constraints of your karma.
This might sound complex to the listener at first or maybe not. But I am sure it take the listener on a journey of thoughts. At least he/she is forced to think.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Holokauston'?
4) The word "holocaust" originally derived from the Greek word Holokauston,
meaning "a completely (holos) burnt (kaustos) sacrificial offering," or "a burnt sacrifice offered to a god." So this name has relevance to me since I want the modern man to sacrifice his mortal thoughts. He shall get above all of the blatant lies we are told. To rise above ethics. To work towards the enlightenment. He shall sacrifice religion, externalism, materialism and get above everything that pulls us back from using ourselves to the best of potential. I feel our society can reach a higher point this way. I embrace Misanthropy until mankind comprehends such.

5.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicains?
5) Yes I do record by myself. In India I was abandoned by the metal scene. My ideas are too non-metal to these people. I think my concepts are very dark on a greater scale since this music isn't for everyone to comprehend.  I learnt recording techniques by myself after some online research.
I currently am a member of Deeper Vileness, but that doesn't make me a very compatible musician. I find the former member of the band to be very similar to me. He shares the same ideas and is very talented. He has a gift in music. Previously I have been kicked out from all bands since I was 13 so I decided to go solo.

6.On the demo you had done a cover of Darkthrone's "Transylvanian Hunger', what was the decision behind doing your own version of this song?
6)  I personally credit Darkthrone alot for my likeness of the genre, it's more of a tribute than a personal liking. The song in general is very grim. I like the atmosphere to this song. I had been recording for 20 hours straight when I felt about recording this track..... It was time consuming because of the repetitive nature of the riffing but it was worth it.  I kinda boosted the tempo of the track, it gives it a more grim feel in my opinion.

7.The demo was released on 'The Dark Thursday', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
7) This is a re-release of my demo, previously I released it with Dark Thursday. Because I didn't know anyone else in the scenes. Jacob Levesque is the owner of this online label. This kind of helped me. Around 500 people heard my demo. I also used black metal promotion on YouTube to get my earlier version of the demo. I got around 600 views there.
This time I released it on my own behalf. It's independent. People can get it for free on my Bandcamp. I got signed to Funeral Silence Productions though. My future releases will not be independent.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
😎 To be honest, not many people have heard my demo. Mostly I am regarded for heavy riffing and psychedelic acoustic parts.... I am not in this for the money, so sales don't matter to me. Most probably 1000 people have heard my demo worldwide. I am here to send a message which isn't easy to contemplate, but yeah. I am sure this will work out someday.

9.Where do you see yourself heading into as a musician in the future?
9)  I am definitely going to scale my audience up in future. I will also release a full-length which many promotion pages will feel stupid about. Since my music has been rejected by them. I am glad someone I hold in high regard understands my thought process. I envy Kadesh from Deeper  Vileness and hold him at high regard. I am sure we will help each other out on a personal level as well as a commercial level, he is kind of the only friend I have too. We plan to release an EP soon. Which will later lead to a full length record.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
10) The Intro and Outro tracks of my demo are influenced from classical music. I love listening to Richard Wagner. Also punk and prog rock are my non-metal influences. When it comes to metal music, I keep Slayer   as one of my greatest influences apart from extreme metal. Bands like Morbid Angel, Monstrosity, Immolation were really influential earlier. Later I heard first wave of black metal. I don't find Venom appealing. I sure am a Bathory fan. In second wave I consider Emperor one of my main influences. Other than them I would definitely go for Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Darkthrone and Burzum.... I also like bands like Moonblood. One of my greatest influences is Azhubham Haani, a German black and blasphemic death metal band as he prefers to call it.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
11) Apart from music I am a school student. Mathematics really interests me. I am mostly out of practice but it's one of my favorite subjects apart from philosophy (not taught at school) and physics. I have been detached from studies for a while because of music, I also failed at school because of misbehavior. I have questioned the Indian education system at several points which as lead the teachers to have a grudge against me. Lately I have been topping my class.
I am an art fanatic, I draw alot. Even though I am not exceptionally good. I have my style. I drew logos for a few metal bands online to earn money for some equipment. My logo page on Facebook is called Rotten Papyrus Illustrations.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
12)The one's in illusion, I call out.
I was once a parasite like you.
A corpse with no identity, is what we become.

A  very  dark  and  heavy  doom  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo picking  and  angry  sludge  styles   shouts  are  also used  at  times.

Most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  a  decent  amount  of  melody  can  also  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  and  at  times  the  music  also  brings  in  elements  of  stoner rock  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  along  with  the  music  also  bringing  in  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  feeling  and  as  the  album  progresses  melodic  vocals  are  added  onto  the  recording while  all  of  the  tracks  sound  very  different  from  each  other  and  psychedelic  elements  are  also used  briefly  and  both  spoken  word  samples  and  Gregorian  chants  are  added  onto  the  closing  track.

Aura Mortis Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Aura Mortis has been formed in late 2013, firstly as a one-man band. In this form, the band has released one demo (''Vast Perdition of Souls'') and a split album with Necro Forest, both in 2014.  After a while, Pakost joined the band as a vocalist and with this updated line up, we released another split album, this time with Tenebrositas in 2016. Our latest work is ''Proclamation of the Sardonic Flame'' EP which has been released on tape by Zly Demiurg Productions from Poland. There is a CD version of it coming in October through Mantratya Productions from Luxembourg too.

2.Recently you have released a new ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from your previous split's and demo?

The sound on our latest release is quite tenebrous, just as we intended it to be. The music is more intricate than on the previous releases and that is due to the fact that there was a progression in composing. As we improve, our music improves as well. However, in general, the previous releases have all followed the same theme of the band, even though they don't sound alike.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

The lyrics worship the final Death of all life through the might of the horned One. He has many forms and names, but there is only one aim.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Aura Mortis'?

The feel and stench of total Death.

5.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

For this time being, the line up won't change. There have been plans of adding a drummer for a while now, but we can't find any suitable individuals for that position.

6.You have also shared splits with 'Necro Forest' and 'Tenebrositas', how would you compare your musical style to theirs?

Both bands are great and it was a pleasure doing those splits. They are a bit more raw and minimalistic in sound than Aura Mortis is, however, and that suits them really well. Cold, skinfreezing sound.

7.The ep was released on 'Zly Demiurg', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

Zly Demiurg is, although small, one really dedicated and reliable underground label. The communication was great and fast, and everything we intended for the EP has been fulfilled by them. Hails to N. and D. !

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

Not that big, to be honest. I can see that there are some people in the countries abroad that listen to our band, but it's not that widely spread.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that the band members are a part of?

Right now, I'm working with my other band INFERNALI GLORIA. We're preparing an EP and I'm really satisfied with our new hymns. I also have a new band coming soon. It's a bit in the old school vein and our debut release is almost done, but I won't share any more info about it. Pakost, on the other hand, is much busier than I am on this behalf. His main band, CRNOBOG, is preparing something completely dark and crushing. Keep an eye out for this cult, as it was about time it woke up from its slumber! He also plays with FLESH CULT, a maniacal black thrashing machine. They're preparing some new songs which are completely sadistic. And he also plays guitar in REDENIK. They're releasing their debut album called ''Nekrografija'' soon. Expecting nothing more than bone cracking tunes on that one.

10.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

There are already some ideas for our debut full length, but we're not in a hurry or whatever, so I can't tell when it will be done. We're only writing when the time is right, when we are touched by Darkness.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

There are many, many artists that have influenced us. Now, black metal is our primary genre and we draw inspiration from it, but there is also old heavy metal, thrash, death and everything that isn't overhyped garbage that a lot of people tend to follow these days.

12.Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?

See the question #3. Yes they do, by a great part. We have a subjective view on these topics and they are showcased in our lyrics.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Thank you for the interview. You can order our new EP here: https://zlydemiurg.blogspot. com

Wormwitch Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
We're a heavy metal band from Vancouver, BC, Canada. We started up about a year ago and we just put out our first record, Strike Mortal Soil.

2.Recently you have released an album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the demo and single you have released in the past?
The sound of the album is really varied. We wanted to try everything out, stretch our legs and see where we were most comfortable. The end result was sort of a sum of our influences, lots of black metal, 70s-80s rock and roll, Swedish death metal, a bit of speed metal. It differs a lot from our previous stuff. We started out as more of a crust punk band with a lot of European death metal influence, and have moved more in the metal direction since then.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
The lyrics on the album follow a loose theme, largely discussing the idea of finding strength in death and the brevity of life. It's a bit of a philosophical exploration of death's role in society and and the psyche. Modern people fear death and crave immortality, but mortality is what gives our experiences and accomplishments gravity and meaning.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Wormwitch'?
No meaning, it's a little bit tongue-in-cheek. It started out as the name for a fantasy-themed d-beat band that our vocalist/bassist, Robin, and I planned on starting, but when it came time to name Wormwitch we thought it would fit. We initially came up with it while talking about how bands with "worm" or "witch" in the name always end up being cool.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Our favorite show so far was probably our recent one in Salt Lake City, Utah. We were on tour with Numenorean from Calgary, it was a really nice venue with great sound and the crowd really seemed to dig us. We haven't played a whole ton of shows yet in the grand scheme of things.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We've got really exciting North American tour plans for the rest of the year and beyond, nothing I can announce just yet. We'd like to hit Europe before the next record as well.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
It's been really great so far, which is awesome. We weren't really sure what to expect, but so far so good.

9.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
I've got a solo project called Old Graves, which is somewhat on hold right now as Wormwitch is mega busy. Robin is slowly piecing together a new project which I'll likely be involved in as well. There's nothing officially released yet, but I can tell you it's sounding really good.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We've already started writing the next album, and there's definitely a shift. The process of writing, recording and releasing Strike Mortal Soil really served its purpose in showing us where we want to be and what Wormwitch should sound like. The new music is less dark and dirty, but it rips just as hard, if not harder. It's more focused and intense, and objectively a huge step up for us. We feel that we've really hit our stride and that it'll be a bright new beginning for us.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an infleunce on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Some bands that have really influenced our sound are Darkthrone, Entombed, Taake, Led Zeppelin, At The Gates, Kvelertak, Black Sabbath, Enslaved, Mastodon, tons more. Too many to name. Recently I've been listening to lot of the same stuff I always have, but a lot of Wardruna in particular.

12.What are some of your non musical interests?
We're love the outdoors; hiking, camping, hunting, just being in nature. We like to read, Robin plays the odd video game. We're big into history and fantasy if that tells you anything about how we are.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Thanks a ton for the interview my friend, check us out on tour or online!

Klingsor/Realm Of The Shades/Narbentage Produktionen/2015 Demo Review

Klingsor  are  a  solo  project  from  Serbia  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2015  demo  "Realm  Of  The  Shades"  which  was  released  by  Narbentge  Produktionen.

Ambient  style  synths  start  off  the  demo  and  they  also  bring  in  a  variety  of  many  different  sounding  keys  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  atmospheric  musical  direction  along  with  some  grim  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  making  their  presence  known  a  few  seconds  later.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  while  the  vocals  also  get  very  deep  and  demonic  at  times  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

Acoustic  guitars  and  clean  playing  are  also  used  briefly  as  well  as  a  small  amount  of  guitar  leads  that  are  done  in  a  very  raw  and  melodic  style  without using  much  in  the  way  of  solos  and  as  the  demo  progresses  synths  also  make  a  brief  return  along  with  a  few  instrumentals  and  nature  sounds.

Klingsor  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  atmospheric sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  dreams  and  nature  themes.

In  my  opinion  Klingsor  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  'Under  A  Million  Burning  Moons"  and  "Adversary".  8  out  of  10.

Corpsehammer/Posesion/Morbid Skull Records/2017 EP Review

Corpsehammer  are  an  international  band  with  members  from  both  Sweden  and  Chile  that  plays  a  primitive  mixture of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  ep  "Posession"  which  was  released  by  Morbid  Skull  Records.

Distorted  amp  sounds  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  war  metal  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  also  add  in  more  of  a  first  wave  black  metal  style  along  with  some  of  the  riffing  also  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  second w ave  influences.

At  times  the  riffing  brings  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  along  with  a lot of  death  metal  elements  while  the  music  is  mostly  rooted  in  both  the  80's  and  90's  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  music  always  remains  very  heavy  and  touches  of  doom  metal  can  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs.

Corpsehammer  plays  a  musical  style  style  that takes  a  raw  second  wave  black  metal  style  and  mixes  in  with  some  first  wave  influences  as  well  as  some  elements  of  war  and  old  school  death  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Spanish  and  cover  death  and  doom  themes.

In  my  opinion  Corpsehammer  are  a  very  great  sounding  primitive  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Beso  Inflame"  and  "Cataclismo".  8  out  of  10.
