Leucosis are a band from Santa Cruz, California that plays a very raw and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Liminal" which was released by Sentient Ruin Laboratories.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while high pitched black metal screams and melodic guitar leads are added onto the recording a few seconds later along with some growls also being utilized at times and all of the musical instruments sound very powerful.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some whispers also being utilized on some of the songs while clean playing is also utilized briefly on a few tracks as well as a couple of the songs being instrumental with the second one being done on synths and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and some of the riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody and spoken word parts are added onto the closing song.
Leucosis plays a style of black metal that is very raw and atmospheric sounding bring back some of the early 2000's USBM sound, the production sounds very dark, raw and heavy while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Leucosis are a very great sounding raw and atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Bereft" and "Saturnal". 8 out of 10.
