This is a review of another recording f rom Iceland's Vonlaus which continues the depressive style of black metal from their previous releases and the ep w as released in 2020 and called "Röð slæmra ákvarðana" which was released by Mystiskaos.
Radio sounds start of the ep before adding in a very powerful sounding bass guitar and heavy riffing while the vocals are mostly depressive black metal screams. When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling along with the solos and leads also being done in a very dark yet melodic style.
When the music speeds up briefly a small amount of blast beats can also be heard while the keeping the main focus on more of a slow or mid tempo direction. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with all of the music also sticking to a very heavy yet modern black metal direction, spoken word parts can also be heard briefly.
On this recording Vonlaus remains true to the depressive style of black metal that was established on their previous release. The production sounds very dark and r aw while the lyrics are written in Icelandic and cover depressive themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Vonlaus and if you are a fan of depressive black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gjaldþrot" and "Týndur í Reykjavík". 8 out of 10.
