Impenetrable Darkness Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new ep?

The band has been working on new material which we are planning to release as a full length album. We are reaching a poisonous and toxic atmosphere of death and destruction required for this next endeavour. This is all we can say for now.

2.Recently you have released a new album, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?

'Cosmic Termination' is more direct musically, not only in playing style, but in atmosphere too. It has a more destructive and raw vibe to it. Thematically both releases have the same endpoint: total death. However, in 'Cosmic Termination', music and atmosphere go hand in hand, creating a better description of the end of everything.

3.This is also your first release since 2014, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time span?

Our commitment to staying true to what we stand for and our choice not to compromise with mediocre results led us to various technical problems, which resulted in us staying away from the studio for so long. However, this silence was essentially “broken” a few days ago with the release of the EP 'Cosmic Termination', which we consider to be a successful step to a new full-length.

4.Some of your lyrics cover occult themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?

The main thematological influence of the band is the apocalypse of the beast and the mystery behind its ritualistic rise. We call upon the seven irises and align ourselves with the great dragon and the two beasts in opposition to god and the false prophet. We express these signs in order to talk about anti-creation / anti-genesis and the destruction of man.

5.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored with the music?

The band first started talking about the mystery and ritual behind the rise of the beast in the first album. The 'Cosmic Termination' EP deals with various scenes of the revelation, which mark the end of the world. We use elements and symbolism based on the book of revelation to focus on the man’s rage to destroy himself, those around them and everything he finds in his path. Immortal death in the face of this delirium seems like the only solution.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Impenetrable Darkness'?

We believe that all definitions for describing darkness as an entity have failed or fall into the trap of missing the point. The reason we chose this name is because it is as blunt and clear as it can be in order to avoid any religious / theological references.

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

It's an image that implies the countdown for the end of creation of the world and all mankind. The trumpets will sound to give the signal towards the final march towards death. All this was rendered in an old-school style image by the great Metastazis, who captured accurately what we had in mind.

8.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

As far as live performances are concerned, the right conditions have not been met yet, so we have again avoided compromising on something that does not fully satisfy us.

9.Recently the band signed to 'Morbid Chapel Records', how did you get in contact with this label?

We contacted 'Morbid Chapel Records a few months back and they were immediately interested in us as they were familiar with the first album and the whole spirit of the band. A cooperation just appeared ideal
for us.

10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your newer music by fans of black metal?

We are playing in order to create and express what we think our music represents in terms of atmosphere. This deadly ritual surrounding the band's image speaks to the fans because it is direct and clear. There are indeed people that embrace the feeling and can see the picture as clearly as we do.

11.When can we expect another full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

As we said, we are working on new tracks. So it is expected that our next release will be a full-length album soon, but we can't say for sure when. The new material is brimming with poisonous incantations and crafting fascinations of death.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

The band, since the very beginning, was primarily influenced by the earlier and later Swedish black metal scene. Legends such as Watain, Bathory, Craft and Dissection surprised us as listeners and influenced our musical development as artists. Apart from that, we think that more classic types of metal played a big role in the shaping of the band, with a great emphasis on the first wave of black metal as well as the heavy one. This is also the case nowadays. The purpose of the band has always been to create music capable of stimulating the ancient human instincts, which are violently free and uncontrollable. Music that speaks to the soul and results in musically expressing the pure form of eternal destruction, avoiding clichés and commercialization.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We would like to thank you for this interview and we hope we will do it again sometime. To all Black Metal worshipers: this music is about unrelenting darkness and everything that surrounds it. Nothing more and nothing less.

Impenetrable Darkness/Cosmic Termination/2020 EP Review

Impenetrable  Darkness  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2020  ep  "Cosmic  Termination".

A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  and  old  school  style  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in a   decent  amount  of  melody  and  some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  a  touch  of  80's  metal  as  well  as  all  of  the  music  also  sticking  to  a  heavier  direction.

Impenetrable  Darkness  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  melodic  and  old  school sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  destruction,  darkness  and  occultism  themes.

In  my  opinion  Impenetrable  Darkness  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Infinite  Of  Black  Destruction".  8  out  of  10.
