Black Mass Pervertor/Dionysion Rite/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Finland's  Black  Mass  Pervertor  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  them  playing  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  with  some  elements  of  doom,  thrash,  heavy  metal  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2023  album  "Dionysion  Rite"  which  will  be  released  in  April.

  Dark  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  are  heavily  rooted  in  doom  metal.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  along  with  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  80's  and  90's  along  with  the  music  also  capturing  the  energy  of  punk  rock  at  times.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  style  as  well  as  some  of  the  riffing  also  adding  in  elements  of  thrash  and  traditional  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  occultism,  dark  impulses,  emotions,  irrationality,  chaos,  hidden  urges,  spiritual  madness,  sexuality  and  ecstatic  frenzy.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Mass  Pervertor  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black  metal  with  elements  of  doom,  thrash,  heavy  metal  and  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Gathering  Of  the  Sodomites"  "Revival  in  Hatred"  "The  Return  Of  The  Outsider  God"  and  "Lust  Of  the  Flesh".  8 out  of  10.

Black Mass Pervertor/Lex Sodomiticum/2021 EP Review

 

  Finland's  Black  Mass  Pervertor  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  old  school  mixture  of  black,  thrash,  heavy  metal  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2021  ep  "Lex  Sodomiticum"  which  will  be  released  in  August.

  A  very  powerful  sounding  bass  guitar  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  heavy  riffing  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  Elements  of  punk  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  a  lot  of  the  music  is  heavily  influenced  by  the  90's  era  without  sounding  outdated.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  touches  of  80's  era  thrash  and  traditional  metal  as  well  as  a  couple  of  tracks  also  bringing  in  some  evil  laughter  and  demonic  voices,  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  towards  the  end..

  On  this  recording  Black  mass  Pervertor  continue  the  punk  influenced  old  school  black  metal  style  of  previous  releases  as  well  as  adding  in  touches  of  thrash  and  heavy  metal  to  take  their  sound  to  another  level.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  man's  persistent  urge  to  conquer,  destroy  and  humiliate,  and  to  gain  power,  knowledge,  and  spiritual  freedom  by  experimenting  with  the  occult  and  violent  morbid  sexuality.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Mass  Pervertor  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  old  school  black,  thrash,  heavy  metal  and  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Awaken  Lust  For  Forbidden  Pleasures"  and  "Left  hand  Sorcerer". 8  out  of  10.

  Finland's  Black  Mass  Pervertor  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  punk  influenced  style  of  old  school  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2021  ep  "Sodomitten  Seura"  which  will  be  released  in  March.

  Ritualistic  sounds  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  the  music  also  brings  in  elements  of  punk  and  thrash  metal.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  which  also  show  influences  of  both  the  first  and  second  wave  era  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  while  the  tremolo  picking  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  short  in  length  and  programmed  beats  and  electronic  music  sounds  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing song.

  On  this  recording  Black  Mass  Pervertor  goes  back  to  both  the  first  and  second  wave  era  of  black  metal  and  updates  the  style  for  the  modern  era  with  elements  of  punk  and  thrash  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Evil  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Mass  Pervertor  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  punk  influenced  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Call  To  Worship"  "A  Statement"  and  "Possessed  By  Satan  And  Evil".  8  out  of  10.

  Black  Mass  Pervertor  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  with  some  elements  of  crust  punk,  thrash  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2020  ep  "Lux  Sodomiticum"  which  will  be  released  on  March  27th.

  Dark  sounding  synths  start  off  the e p  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  the  vocals  are  done  in  a  grim  black  metal  style.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  mid  tempo  sections  of  the  songs  bringing  in  elements  of  crust  punk  and  d  beat.

  Black  Mass  Pervertor  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  with  a  touch  of  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Life  Beyond  The  Walls  Of  Flesh"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Blood  Harvest.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  some  evil  laughter  being  used  at  times  a  few  seconds  later  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard.

  Black  Mass  Pervertor  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  old  school  in  the  90's  tradition  along  with  a  touch  of  punk,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  as w ell  as  giving  the  music  a  more  modern  feeling  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  and  Death  Worship  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Black  Mass  Pervertor  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  old  school  black  metal  band  with  a  touch  of  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Imbibing  The  Seas  Of  Darkness"  "Unorthodox  Methods  of  Magick"  and  "The  Forbidden  Zone".  8  out  of  10.
