Human Bodies/MMXII-MMXIV/Caligari Records/2015 CD Compilation Review

  Human  Bodies  are  a  band  from  Massachusetts  that  has  been  featured before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  mixture  of  raw  black  metal  and  crust  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  cd  compilation  "MMXII-MMXIV"  which  was  released  by  Caligari  Records  and  consists  of  their  2013  demo,  2014  ep  and  a  couple  of  unreleased  tracks.

  Distorted  guitar  noises  start  off  the  compilation  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and r aw  black  metla  direction t hat  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  high  pitched  screams  and  after  awhile  elements  of  crust  punk  and  d  beat  are added  into  the  music  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  more  of  a  melodic  style.

  Throughout  the  compilation  there  is  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some  of  the  riffs  also  use  melodies  at  times  as  well  as  adding  in  a  touch  of  black'n'roll  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  they  manage  to  keep  everything  in  a  very  raw,  heavy  and  aggressive  manner  throughout  all  of  the  tracks.

  With  their  earlier  material  and  unreleased  tracks  Human  Bodies  shows  that  their  music  has  been  very  heavily  rooted  in  a  crusty  black  metal  style  since  the  start  and  the  music  also  has  a  dark  atmosphere  at  times  while  also  being  very  heavy,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  and  hateful  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is a  very  great  sounding  compilation  from  Human  Bodies  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  crust  influenced  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Covenant"  "Stygian  Reverie"  "While  the  Others  Wait"  and  "Malice  Prepense".  8  out  of  10.

Human Bodies/Leather Chalice/Broken Limbs/2015 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Massachusetts's  Human  Bodies  and  New  Hampshire's  Leather  Chalice  which  will  be  released  on  September  22nd  by  Broken  Limbs  and  we will  start  off  the  review  with  Human  Bodies  a  band  that  has  been  featured  and  plays  a  raw  mixture  of  black  metal and  punk.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  reverb  and  a  powerful  sounding  bass guitar  before  adding  in  a  blackened  crust  punk  direction  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  you  can  also  hear  melodies  or  d  beats  in  the  bands  musical  style  and  the  faster  sections  utilize a  lot  of  raw  aggression  and  blast  beats  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  remain  true  to  an  80's  style  of  metal  punk  and  both  of  the  songs  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  mid  paced  and  fast  parts, the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  hateful  themes.

 In  my  opinion this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Human  Bodies  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  punk  influenced  black  metal,   you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Malice  Prepense".

  Next  up  is  Leather  Chalice  a  band  that  plays  a  raw  mixture  of  black  metal  and  post  punk.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  black  metal  screams  and  melodic  post  punk  solos  and  leads  and  the  riffs  have  a  great  amount  of  rawness  to  them  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  alternate  between  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  the  production  sounds  very  raw while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  from  Leather  Chalice  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  raw  black  metal  and  post  punk,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Last  Gifts  Of  Worship".

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal  and  punk,  you should  check  out  this  ep. 8  out  of 10.

Human Bodies/No Life/Caligari Records/2014 Cassette Review

  Human  Bodies  are  a  band  from  Massachusetts  that  plays  a  raw  mixture  of  black  metal  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  cassette  which  was  released  by  Caligari  Records.

  Noisy  reverb  starts  off  the  cassette  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  sound  that  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  high  pitched  screams  and  you  can  hear  a  heavy  punk  influence  in  the  bands  musical  style  and  at  time s you  can  hear  some  melody  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

  You  can  hear  a  heavy  influence  from  the  more  punk  side  of  the  Norwegian  black  metal  scene  in  the  bands  musical  sound  and  the  songs  at  times  also  bring  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  bass  guitar  also  brings  in  a  very  powerful  sounding  presence  on  some  of  the  tracks  while  a  couple  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  few  seconds  of  guitar  leads.

  Human  Bodies  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  sound  and  also  mix  it  in  with  the  energy  of  punk  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sound s very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  violent  and  hateful  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Human  Bodies  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  mixture  of  black  metal  and  punk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Scapegoat"  and  "Bellicose  Throngs".  8  out  of  10.
