Australasia are a band from Italy that has been featured before in this zine with a musical style I would describe as a semi instrumental form of black metal mixed with post rock and ambient and this is a review of their 2013 album "Vertebra" which was released by Immortal Frost Productions.
"Aorta" begins with some clean guitar playing and background atmosphere which leads up to some drums beats and melodic post black metal guitar riffs along with the clean parts coming in and out of the song and you can hear the bass guitars in the background and after awhile t here is a brief use of guitar leads as well as some melodic clean singing female vocals towards the end.
"Vestok" begins with some synth pop style synths which lead up to some drum beats and heavy yet melodic guitar riffs and after awhile the music goes into a clean direction for a few seconds and adds in a brief use of classical guitars before getting heavy again along with the synths returning and towards the end there are some regular acoustic guitars being utilized.
"Zero" begins with some ambient sounds before the drums and post rock style guitar riffs start kicking in along with some powerful bass guitars in the background which also leads up to some synths a few seconds later and halfway through the song the music starts getting a little bit more heavier along with some melodic elements and guitar leads.
"Aura" begins with some dark sounding synths and programmed drums beats which leads up to some melodic female vocals and after awhile some clean guitar playing is added into the song and towards the end you can hear some ambient elements.
"Antenna" begins with some noises before some soft clean guitar riffs and drum beats make their way into the song along with some bass guitars in the background and after awhile heavy post black metal riffs come into the song which leads to the music going into a faster direction for a few seconds before returning to the slower and clean parts.
"Volume" begins with a brief spoken word parts before some heavy and melodic guitar riffs kick in along with some drums and a great amount of melody being thrown into the guitar riffing along with a small amount of leads and the song closes with some synths.
"Vertebra" begins with nature sounds before the acoustic guitars start kicking in with some finger picking and full chords and there is not much variety in the song and towards the end synths start kicking in.
"Alpnea" begins with some acoustic guitars which lead up to some nature sounds, powerful bass guitars and programmed drum beats and after a few seconds synths and vocals start making their presence known in the song.
"Deficit" begins with some clean guitar playing which leads up to some drum beats, synths and guitar and bass riffs which bring in more post black metal elements along with a brief use of blast beats before going into a cleaner direction and adding in some synth pop and new wave elements.
"Cinema" begins with some soft acoustic guitar playing and after awhile nature sounds are added into the mix and after a couple of minutes programmed drum beats start coming into the song as well as some melodic guitar leads and towards the end there are some powerful sounding synths that start coming into the song.
Song themes cover darkness and nature, while the production has a very strong, powerful and heavy sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording with only the last song being long and epic in length.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Australasia and if you are a fan of post rock and black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Aorta" "Aura" "Vertebra" and "Cinema". RECOMMENDED BUY.
