Heathen Foray/Weltenwandel/Massacre Records/2020 CD Review

Austria's  Heathen  Foray  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  melodic  viking  metal  style  of  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Weltenwandel"  which  was  released  by  Massacre  Records.

Epic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavy  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  while  blackened  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording.  Death  metal  growls  also  have  a  very  dominant  presence  on  the  recording  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.  When  acoustic  guitars  are  utilized  briefly  they  also  introduce  elements  of  folk  music  onto  the  recording  as  well  as  on  of  the  tracks also  adding  in  some  clean  pagan  vocals  onto  the  recording.

All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  album  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  most  of  the  music  sticking  to  a  mid  tempo  direction.  Whispered  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  one  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  Norse/German  Mythology,  Paganism,  Fantasy  And  Battle  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Heathen  Foray  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Essenz"  "Weg"  and  "Schlangengrube".  8  out  of  10.

Heathen Foray/Armored Bards/2018 Re-Issue Review

Heathen  Foray  are  a  band  from  Austria  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  melodic  form  of  viking  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2010  album  "Armored  Bards"  which  was  was  re-issued  in  2018

Melodic  guitar  leads  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  faster  direction  which  also  introduces  blast  beats  onto  the  recording  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  that  also  have  a  touch  of  death  metal  to  them  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  along  with  the  acoustic  guitars  bringing  in  elements  of  folk  music  when  they  are  utilized  as  well  as  a  couple  of  tracks  being  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  chants  can  also  be  heard.

On  this  recording  Heathen  Foray  remained  very  true  to  their  melodic  style  of  viking  black  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Norse/German  Mythology,  Paganism,  Fantasy  and  Battle  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  was  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Heathen  Foray  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  viking  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  re-issue.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Armored  Bards"  "Messenger  Of  God"  "Walls  Of  Vienna"  and  "Carthage's  End".  8  out  of  10.

Heathen Foray/The Passage/Black Bards Entertainment/2009 CD Review

Heathen Foray are a band from Austria that plays viking metal with black metal overtones and this is a review of their 2009 album "The Passage" which was released by Black Bards Entertainment.

Drums are mostly mid paced drumming with some fast playing and little to no blast beats, while the bass playing has a powerful with a lot of fast riffing.

Rhythm guitars are mostly mid paced viking metal riffs that also have a lot of classic metal influences and they speed up at times very melodic sounding pagan metal guitar solos, as for the acoustic guitars they have a medieval feel to them

Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams that have a classic death metal edge to them, while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and German and they cover Norse/German Mythology, Paganism, fantasy and battles, as for the production it sounds very professional and you can hear all of the instruments that are present on this album.

In my opinion Heathen Foray are a very good band that I feel most viking metal fans would enjoy. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fading Tree" "Winterking" "Dragon's Eyes" and "Ancient Secrets". RECOMMENDED BUY.
