Sammas' Equinox/Tulikehrat/Signal Rex/2020 Full Length Review

  Finland's  Sammas'  Equinox  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  raw  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Tulikehrat"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  Signal  Rex.

  Synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  tribal  beats  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  All  of  the  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  also  adds  in  a  decent  amount  of 90's  influences.

  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Atmospheric  elements  are  also  added  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  one  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  the  synths  also  making  a  return  on  some  of  the  later  songs.   The  production  sounds  very  dark and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  distinctual  manifestations  of  Fire  and  Will  along  with  one  track  also  being  written  in  Finnish.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Sammas' Equinox  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal, you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fire" and  "High  Seat  Of  The  Pain  Mountain".  8out  of  10.

Sammas Equinox/Emanating Terror/Temples Of Ice/Signal Rex/2020 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  Finland's  Sammas  Equinox  and  Emanating  Terror  called  "Temples  Of  Ice"  which  will  be  released  on  January 31st  by  Signal  Rex  and we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Sammas  Equinox  a  band  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy,  dark  and  melodic  sound  along  with  some  high  pitched  black  emtal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  The  song  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  track  more of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  song  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  synths  also  giving  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling  when  they  are  utilized.  The  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  coldness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Sammas  Equinox  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of r aw  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up  is  Emanating  Terror  another  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark,  melodic  yet  heavy  sound  while  the  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments.  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  song  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  emtal  screams  along  with  the  song  also  mixing  in  a  decent  amount  of  mid  90's  and  early  2000's  era  influences as  well  as  the  track  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  coldness  and  winter  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Emanating  Terror  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  raw  and  atmospheric  Finnish  black  metal.  8  out  of 10.

Sammas Equinox/Pilgrimage/Boahjenasti/Signal Rex/2018 Compilation Album Review

  Sammas  Equinox  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  compilation  album  Pilgrimage/Boahjenasti"  which  will  be  released  in  February  2019  by  Signal  Rex  and  consists  of  their  2016  and  2017  demos.

  A  synth  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  compilation  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.

  A  great  amount  of  90's  influences  can  also  be  heard  in  the  bands  musical  style  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  also  getting  very  atmospheric  at  times  as  well  as  some  of  the  riffing  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  punk  elements  and  they  also  add  in  an  avant  garde  style  outro  before  going  into  the  songs  from  the  second  demo  which  also  bring  in  more  of  a  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal,  clean  playing  and  pagan  style  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  on  the  closing  track.

  Sammas  Equinox  plays  a  style  of  black  metal t hat  is  very  raw  and  atmospheric  in  the  90's  tradition,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Greek  and  Finnish  mythology  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Sammas  Equinox  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  atmospheric  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hyperborean  Pilgrimage"  and  "Kuolonhenkays".  8  out  of  10.
