Meuchelmord/Mordmelodien/Purity Through Fire/202 CD Review

 

  Germany's  Meuchelmord  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  dhows  the music  going  for  more  of  a  melodic  and  raw  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Mordmelodien"  which  will  be  released  in  February by Purity  Through  Fire.

  Operatic  choirs  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  some  melodic  guitar  solos  and  leads  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  add  in    decent  amount  of  melody.

  A  lot  of t he  music  is  also  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.  One  of  the  tracks  also  brings  in  touches  of  World  War II  era  marching  music  along  with  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  semi  clean  playing  as  well  as  the  music  also  capturing  a  medieval  atmosphere  at  times  and  one  of  the  tracks  also  adds  in  some  guest  vocals  from  Iblis  formerly  of  Endstille  and  the  album  also  closes  with  an  'Ad  Mortem'  cover  which also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  synths.       

  On  this  recording   Meuchelmord  goes  for  more  of  a  raw  and  melodic  style  of  black  metal  that  still  keeps  the  aggression  of  previous  releases. The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  World War  II  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Meuchelmord  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  melodic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Der  Tod  nacht" "Treibjagd"  "Alter  Geist"  and  "Totenkult".  8  out  of  10.

Meuchelmord/Waffentrager/Purity Through Fire/2019 CD Review

  Germany's  solo  project  Meuchelmord  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  into  more  of  a  traditional  black  metal  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Waffentrager"  which  will  be  released  on  May  31st  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  World  War  II  style  marching  starts  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  vocals  are  mostly grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  A  good  amount  of  90's  influences  can  also  be  heard  in  the  musical  style  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  a  small  amount  of  guitar  leads  and  war  sounds  onto  the  recording  which  also  return  on  some  of  the  later  tracks  and  the  music  always  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  German  military  music  samples  can  be  heard.

  On  this  recording  Meuchelmord  moves  away  from  the  more  depressive  style  of  his  previous  releases  and  goes  for  more  of  a  traditional  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  World  War  II  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Meuchelmord  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  traditional  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Woga-Battaillon"  "Grabenkampf"  "Sieben  Tage"  and  "Kylma  maa".  8  out  of  10.

Meuchelmord/Nostalgia/2016 Full Length Review

  Meuchelmord  are  a  solo  project  from  Germany  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  depressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2016  album  "Nostolgia".

  A  powerful  bass  guitar  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  atmospheric  synths  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  leads  up  to  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  style  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  after  awhile  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  make  their  presence  known  on  the  recording.

  At  times  the  vocals  bring  in  a  small  amount  of  deep  growls  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and as  the  album  progresses  they  also  bring  in  a  tragic  sounding  keyboard  instrumental  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  edge  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  paced  musical  direction  while  also  bringing  in a  brief  use  of  thunder  sounds.

  Mechelmord  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  depressive  black  metal  style  of  previous  releases  while also  being  very  guitar  driven,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression  and  pain  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mechelmord  and  if  you  are  a   fan  of  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  "Rabensang"  "Zwischenspiel"  and  "Roter  Mond".  8  out  of  10.

Meuchelmord/Apathie/2015 EP Review

  Meuchelmord  are  a  solo  project  from  Germany  that  plays  a  very  depressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2015  ep  "Apathie".

  Tragic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  ep  and  after  a  few  seconds  elements  of  electronic  music  are  added  onto  the  recording  before  adding  in  more  of  a  heavy  and  depressive  black  metal  sound  that  also  uses  very  melodic  and  atmospheric  sounding  guitar  solos  and  leads  and  on  the  second  track  the  music  gets  more  structured.

  When  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  they  are  very  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  songs  have  a  very  modern  approach  to  the  genre  and  a  small  amount  of  clean  playing  can  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  songs  and  also  adds  to  a  touch  of  post  rock  to  the  tracks  and  as  the  ep  progresses clear  singing can  be  heard  briefly  and  the  whole  recording  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  musical  direction.

  Meuchelmord  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  depressive  while  also  mixing  the  post,  atmospheric  and  melodic  sides  of  the  genre  into  the  songs  to  make  the  music  stand  out  a  bit  more,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  depressive  themes.

  In my  opinion  Meuchelmord  are  a  very  great  sounding  depressive,  post  black  metal  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Jahr"  and  "Regeneration".  8  out  of  10.
