Itnuveth/Anankè/Base Record Production/2021 CD Review

 

  Spain's  Itnuveth  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  viking  style  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Anankè"  which  was  released  by  Base  Record  Production.

  A  very  heavy,  epic  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  adds  in  some  growls  as  well  as  having  their  grim  moments  at  times.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  some  tracks  also  add  in  some  clear  pagan  vocals.  One  song  also  introduces  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  album  along  with  the  clean  playing and  acoustic  guitars  also  adding  in  touches  of  folk  music  when  they  are  utilized.

  When  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  folk  instruments  along  with  some  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Norse  Mythology,  Witchcraft,  Wars  and  Battle  themes.    

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  form  Itnuveth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  viking  and  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Anankè"  "Sometimes  Are  Gods'  "Rising  From  Life"  and  "Sinking  in  The  Ocean".  8  OUT  OF  10.

Itnuveth/Enuma Elish/Base Record Production/2020 CD Review

  Spain's  Itnuveth  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  pagan  black  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Enuma  Elish"  which  will  be  released  in  February  by  Base  Record  Production.

  An  intro  starts  off  the  album  which  also  introduces  acoustic  guitars  and  flutes  onto  the  recording  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  tracks  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  Growls  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  music  while  clean  pagan  vocals  are  also  utilized  at  times.  Nature  orientated  soundscapes  are  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  and  flutes  also  returning  on  some  of  the  later  songs  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  whispered  vocals.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  good  amount  of  melody  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  couple  of  interludes  are  also  added  onto  the  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Sumerian,  Norse  Mythology,  Warriors,  Battles  and  Witchcraft  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding album  from  Itnuveth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording. RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Enume  Elish"  "The  Abyss  Of  Immortal  Flames"  and  "Powerful  Energies".  8  out  of  10.

Itnuveth/Cult Of Self Destruction/Black Viking Alliance/Nihil Verum Nisi Mors/Base Record Production/Double Split CD Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  double  split  album  between  Spain's  Itnuveth  and  Cult  of  Self  Destruction  called  "Black  Viking  Alliance/Nihil  Verum  Nisi  Mors"  which  was  released  by  Base Record  Production  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Itnuveth  who  return  with  their  viking  and  pagan  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the split  starts out  with  some  epic  sounding  synths which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  grim  black  metal  screams.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  clean  vocals  vocals  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  The  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Viking  battle  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  deep  growls  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music  along  with  a  couple  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length. The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Norse  Mythology,  Warriors,  Battles  and  Witchcraft  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Itnuveth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  viking  and  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Exile"  and  "On  The  Edge  of  Morning'.

  Next  up  is  Cult  Of  Self  Destruction  who  return  with  a  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  sounding  intro  while  spoken  word  samples can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

  The  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  while  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  elements  of  doom  metal.  Deep  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments  at  times  as  well  as  some  clean  guitars  also  being  utilized  briefly.

  Blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  briefly  when  the  music  finally  speeds  up  giving  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  but  keeping  the  main  focus  on  more  of  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  style  throughout  most  of  the  tracks,  Gregorian  chants  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  dealing  with  pestilence,  death  and  plagues.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  From  Cult  Of  Self  Destruction  which  shows  the  music  moving  away  from  a  more  raw  style of  black  metal  and  going  into  a  mixture  of  black  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Danse  Macabre  (The  Plague)"  and  "Memento  Mori  (The  Death)".

  In  conclussion  i  feel t his  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  pagan,  viking,  black  and  blackened  doom  metal.  8  out  of  10.

  An  atmospheric  sounding  intro  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  and  folk  instruments  being  added  onto  the  recording  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times  as  well  as  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams.

  Death  metal  growls  are  also  used  at  times  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  a  more  raw  feeling  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  melodic  chants  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Itnuveth  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  the  pagan  black  metal  styles  of  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Norse  mythology,  Witchcraft,  Warriors  and  Battle  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Itnuveth  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Pagan  Martyrs".  8  out  of  10.

Itnuveth/Tales And Legends of Wolves/Base Records Production/2017 CD Review

  Itnuveth  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  has  been featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  melodic  form  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017 album  "Tales  And  legends  Of  Wolves"  which  was  released  by  Base  Record  Production.

  Acoustic  guitars  along  with  some folk  instruments  start  off  the  album  as  well  as  some  nature  soundscapes  and  after  the  sounds  of  wolves the  music  goes  into  a  heavier  direction  while  also  introducing  death  metal  growls  onto  the  recording  and  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in a   very  melodic  fashion.

  Grim  black  metal  screams  are  also  used  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

Itnuveth Interview

 1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Lianne Krossburner: Itnuveth is a Black Metal project with a pagan and epic essence that easily can be seen reflected in both, music and voice. It’s pure epic, pure magic. It's like a gateway to another time.

2.In October you released your first album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
L. Krossburner: Even if we wanted to get a raw sound in the final master, we see clear and powerful guitars as well. That kind of music, in my opinion, may not sound entirely sharp, nor devoid of dirt; it should be between insanity (very typical of this genre) and beauty. The voices should always be sick, feeling and living what you're singing, no matter how good or bad are your shrieks/growls.
Völundr: The sound in "The Way of the Berserker" is as it should be, at least from our point of view. We wanted it sound unclean but audible, especially raw. Actually, we are very pleased with how the final sound has remained and we hope to continue in this manner in the future.

3.Your lyrics cover some Pagan themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?
Lianne Krossburner: I think this genre cannot be felt if you are a current person; If you don’t understand the wickedness that dwell the world, better leave the path of Black Metal. My lyrics are always linked to paganism, in one way or another. In this case, “The Way of the Berserker” talks on pagan myths and ancient Scandinavian folklore because I love this theme, but in my opinion, this album is an ode to life and death. It describes how the human being is, like a beast, like a berserker, even if sometimes try to disguise themselves as something else.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'itnuveth'?
Völundr: To be honest, ITNUVETH is an invented name after joining the syllables IT-NU-VETH. We liked it how it sounded with the theme of the band; also, surely no one would have this name, which made it even more attractive.

5.Currently there are only 2 members in the band are you planning on expanding the line up in the future or do you chose to remain a duo?
Lianne Krossburner: At first there is no thought to extend "the family." Itnuveth is not a project to be directed to the stage; at least it’s what we think for the moment, so we don’t see the necessity to include new members. We defend ourselves pretty well for now.
Völundr: As Lianne said, we are fine and we don't need anyone else. In a close future, the formation will remain the same and we don't think it will change further on.

6.The album was released on Xtreem Music a label more known for death metal, do you feel you stand out from the other bands on the label?
Völundr: Xtreem Music is a label, as you mentioned, more oriented to Death Metal genre, but currently has more bands dedicated to other musical styles. For example, we could cite WRONG, OUIJA, FROZEN DAWN or SVIPDAGR. There are not many Pagan Black Metal bands, that's true, for this reason we are honored that they wanted to have us in their roster.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of pagan and black metal?
Lianne Krossburner: Actually is that the response from Black Metal fans has been overwhelmingly positive, so much that we are already beginning to sketch what will be our new album. Reviews by specialized media have also been very good. We didn’t expect such a warm welcome.

 8. What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that the band members are a part of?
L. Krossburner: With Edenkaiser I'm about to release our new album. Our first EP Doomsday Juggernaut had very good reviews too, in spite of it's a more primal and raw Black Metal than Itnuveth. Now we will begin touring through Eastern Europe to present the new stuff, Dominum Ex Mortis, and hope it is well received. For next year there are plans for more touring and splits, so I think we are on track.
Völundr: With Svipdagr we are about to finish our second album which we hope will see the light soon. Right now we are in the mixing and mastering process, so after that only we will have to worry about  editing it in the best way possible.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Völundr: Going forward I don't think there are going to be many changes. We will continue with our Pagan Viking Black Metal proposal but for the next album I hope we can go deeper in Viking land. There are several ideas in mind, but we'll see. I just can say say that we will start with the composition of new stuff pretty soon.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Völundr: In my case, the bands that have influenced me in one way or another could be BORKNAGAR, FOSCOR, SOLEFALD, WINDIR, THYRFING, MANEGARM, MOONSORROW, BATHORY, ARKONA, BUTTERFLY TEMPLE, SORGSVART, ARCTURUS, VINTERSORG, etc, etc. And in terms of musical styles, I use to listen everything about the Black Metal and its sub-genres, as Folk Black metal, raw Black Metal, Viking Metal, Black Viking...

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
Lianne Krossburner: Hmmm good question. I personally love to write, in fact, Häwkmoon (guitar and founder of Edenkaiser) and I are the authors of the Megadeth biography (in spanish language) and very soon also will be published the Slayer bio by the same publishing house. Besides, I consider myself a “conspiranoid”; in the little free time I have, I love to read and to watch documentaries about conspiracies, the matrix, aliens and stuff like that.

  Itnuveth  are  a  band  from  Spain  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  melodic  form  of  pagan/black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "The  Way  Of  The  Berserker"  which  was  released  by  Xtreem  Music.

  Wind  sounds,  acoustic  guitars  and  spoken  word  parts  start  off  the  album  and  after  the  intro  the  music  starts  going  for  more  of  an  epic  and  atmospheric  raw  black  metal  sound  along  with  some  melodic  pagan  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads  as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  grim  screams  and  the music  also  retains  the  nature  sounds  and  acoustic  guitars  and  also  bring  them  back  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  they  add  more  of  a  medieval  feeling  to  the  band s musical  style.

  You  can  hear  some  elements  of  classic  metal  being  utilized  at  times  and  the band  also  brings  in  a  good  amount  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  throughout  the  recording  along  with  some  blast  beats  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  bring  in  a  very  raw  black  metal  feeling  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  spoken  word  parts  do  make  a  return  before  returning  back  to  an  epic  pagan/black  metal  sound  and  they  close  the  album  with  an  acoustical  piece.  

  Itnuveth  plays  a  style  of  pagan/black  metal  that  brings in  the  raw,  melodic  and  epic  sides  of  this  genre  and  combines  them  to  create  an  album  that  displays  some  of  the  best  element s of  the  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  Paganism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Itnuveth  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  melodic  pagan/black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Legacy  Of  A  Dead  Wolf"  "Skoll"  and  "Northern  Demons".  8  out  of  10.
