Mitternacht/Self Titled/2025 EP Review

Mitternacht  are  a  solo  project  from  the  united  States  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  raw  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  and  self  titled  2025  ep  which  will  be  released  on  December  22nd.

A  very  fast,  raw  and  brutal  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  death  metal  elements  as  well  as  some  of t he  riffs  also  adding  in  a  small  amount  of  melody.

A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  influenced  by  the  old  school  era  of  the  genre  while  one  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  also  add  in  more  of  a  chaotic  style  along  with  one  track  also  being  a  synth  orientated  instrumental  before  closing  the  ep  with  a  heavier  track.

On  this  recording  Mitternacht  expands  on  his  raw  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  blasphemy,  war  and  medieval  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Mittenacht  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Blasphemous  Warfare"  and  "torture".  8  out  of  10.

Mitternacht Interview

\

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the solo project?

Mitternacht was founded in 2020 with the idea of creating dark, primitive music that carries the torch of 80s/90s black and death metal.

2.In 2021 you had released a demo, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

The musical style of the project that the Blasphemous Warfare demo reflects is aggressive black metal with atonal OSDM riffing mixed in. It came together from some old riffs and lyrics I had and I pieced it all together during the on-and-off recording process.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?

So far the lyrics have been influenced by occult literature, nothing too deep at the moment.

4.I know that the band's name means 'midnight' in German, how does this name fit in with the musical style that you play?

It relates to the frantic music and dark aesthetics of the overall project, as it is partly inspired by the instinct of heightened, evolution-driven fear of the unknown at night. The witching hour is also argued by some to start at midnight, but is commonly understood to occur some time after.

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the demo cover?

I am a fan of classical art and stumbled across what I felt would be fitting for a cover. It is aggressive, relentless, and blasphemous which felt perfect for the spirit of the music.

6.With this project you record everything by yourself, are you open to working with other musicians or do you prefer to work solo?

No other musicians are necessary, especially since there will not be any live shows.

7.What part of the U.S.A is the solo project located at?

N/A

8.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

I am not looking for a label currently as I am still in the process of (de)composing an album’s worth of songs. I have a couple independent labels that I am in contact with, but that is not a priority yet.

9.On a worldwide level, how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and death metal?

The reactions have been positive for only a rough demo so far, which I am grateful for. Those who are fans of old school metal are able to recognize the direction this project comes from and seem to be entertained.

10.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see yourself heading into as a musician during the future?

A debut in the form of an EP or full length is the goal, but everything is still being written. I will probably be releasing a second demo before anything major.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

I was influenced by Marduk and Dissection demos & EPs primarily and wanted to de-make that style of writing with the primitiveness of Darkthrone and Bathory.

Regarding my current listening, for metal right now I have been listening to Witchcraft (Finland) and the Entombed + Nihilist demos. Although I have probably listened to more gabber/hardcore techno than metal in the past couple years for the same reasons….speed and aggression, but from another perspective.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Reject passive nihilism.

Mitternacht/Blasphemous Warfare/2021 Demo Review

Mitternacht  are  a  solo  project  from  the  United  States  that  plays  a  very  raw  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2021  demo  "Blasphemous  Warfare".

A  lot  of  the  music  also  shows  some  influences  from  the  90's  to  early  2000's  era  while  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  when  they  are  utilized  and  all  of  the  music  also  sticks  to  a  heavier  direction.
