Alkerdeel/Slonk/Babylong Doom Cult Records/Consouling Sounds/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Belgium's  Alkerdeel  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  into  a  mixture  of  raw  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Slonk"  which  will  be  released  in  February  as  a  joint  effort  between  Babylon  Doom  Cult  Records  and  Consouling  Sounds.

  Atmospheric  sounding  drones  and  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  ambient  style  synths  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Elements  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  can  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  songs  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  At  times  the  vocals  also  add  in  some  angry   shouts  along  with  some  dark  sounding  melodies  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dissonant  style.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  the  bands  native  tongue  and  cover  surrealism  themes.   

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Akerdeel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental,  raw  black,  sludge  and  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vier"  and  "Trok".  8  out  of  10.

Alkerdeel/Lede/Consouling Sounds/2016 CD Review

  Alkerdeel  are  a  band  from  Belgium  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  experimental  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016 album  "Lede"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Consouling  Sounds.

  Avant  garde  sounds  start  off t he  album  along  with  some  dark  yet  melodic  guitar  riffing  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  leads  up  to  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction  that  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  and  you  can  also h ear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recoridng.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  the  more  modern  side  of  the  genre  at  times  while  a  great  amount  of  old  school  and  second  wave  influences  are  utilized  as  well  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  while  some  of  the  slow  riffing  brings  in  a  touch  of  doom  metal  and  a  good  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and epic  in  length  and  drones  are  added  onto t he  last  track.

  Alkerdeel  creates  an  album  that  is  less  experimental  than  their  previous  recordings  and  go  for  more  of  a  straight  forward  black  metal  sound  while  still  having  some  avant  garde  and  psychedelic  elements,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Belgian  and  cover  dark  themes  along  with  the  first  3  tracks  having  a  concept  to  them.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Akerdeel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  metal  with  an  experimental  touch,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Regardez  Ses  Yeux  I"  and  "Lede".  8  out  of  10.

Gnaw Their Tongues/Alkerdeel/Dyodyo Aseme/ConSouling Sounds/2013 EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  joint  album  between  Netherland's  Gnaw  Their  Tongues and  Belgium's  Alkerdeel  who  team  up  together  to  create  a  20 minute  long  black/drone/noise/sludge metal  song  with  the  ep  being  called  "Dyodyo Aseme"  and  was  released  by  ConSouling  Sounds  in  2013.

  "Dyodyo  Aseme"  opens  up  with  some  ritualistic  noise  sounds  and  dark  drones  and  a  minute  later  heavy  guitar  and  bass  riffs  come  in  bringing  in  elements  of  sludge  along  with  some  demonic  growls  and  as  time  goes  on  by  drums  and  black  metal  screams  start  to  kick  in  as  well  as  some  synths,  after  a  few  minutes  fast,  raw  and  primitive  black  metal  guitar  riffs  come  in  along  with  some  blast  beats  for  a  couple  of  minutes  and  then  mixing  in  a  combination  of  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  as  time  goes  on  by  the  song  makes  a  return  back  to  its  drone  roots  but  keeping  around  the  black  metal  elements  in  certain  sections.

  Song  lyrics  cover  occult  and  ritualistic  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  heavy  and  raw  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  along  with  the  only  see  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  joint  effort  between  Gnaw  Their  Tongues  and  Alkerdeel  adn  if  you  like  black  metal,  drone,  sludge,  or   noise,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

Alkerdeel/A Den Of Robbers/CM Kamp 1996/Horion Jugend/ConSouling Sounds/2012 Split Album Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Belgium's  Alkerdeel  and  A  Den Of Robbers  called  "CM  Kamp  1996/Horion  Jugend"  which  was  released  by  ConSouling  Sounds  in  2012  and  we  will start  of  the  review  with  Alkerdeel  a  band  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical style  that  mixes  raw  and  primitive  sounding  black  metal  with  sludge  and  doom  metal.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  their  side  of  the  recording.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  raw  and  primitive  sounding  black  metal  with  sludge  and  doom  metal  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  their  side  of  the  recording.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  which  have  a very  depressive  tone  to  them a t  times  along  with  some  deep  growls  and  spoken  word  parts,  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Belgian  and  cover  dark  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  while  you  can  still  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on t heir  side  of  the  recording.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from Alkerdeel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  primitive  black  metal  and  sludge,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Veiller  De  Nuit  Noir".  RECOMMENDED.

Next  up  is  A  Den  Of  Robbers  a  band  that  mixes  sludge  with  grindcore.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  a  good  amount  of  blast  beats  being  present  on  this  recording,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very   strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  their  side  of  the  recording.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  sludge  with  grindcore  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  along  with  some  black  metal  influences  in  the  riffing  and  there  are  no  guitar  solos  or  leads  present  on  their  side  of  the  recording

  Vocals  are  all  high  pitched  grindcore/sludge  screams,  while  the  lyrics  cover  everyday  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  heavy,  raw  and  primitive  sound  while  you  can  still  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  their  side  of  the  recording.

  In  my  opinion  A  Den  Of  Robbers  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  sludge  and  grindcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bob  Larsen"  and  "Plagues".  RECOMMENDED.

  In  conclusion  I  feel t his  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  metal,  sludge,  and  grindcore  you  should  add  this  album  to  your  collection.  RECOMMENDED  BUY..

Alkerdeel/Morinide/ConSouling Sounds/2012 CD Review

  Alkerdeel  are  a  band  from  Belgium  that  plays  a  mixture  of  raw  and  primitive  sounding  black  metal,  drone  and  sludge  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "Morinide"  which  was  released  by  ConSouling  Sounds.

  Drums  are  all  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very   strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording,  as  for  the  sound  effects  they  bring  elements  of  experimental  and  drone  to  the  recording.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  riffs  that  combine  raw  and  primitive  sounding  black  metal  with  drone  and  sludge  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  with  a  great  amount  of  heavy  distortion  behind  the  riffing  as  well  as  some  punk  influences  and  dark  sounding  melodies,  while  the  lead  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  are  very  old  school  sounding  Slayer  style  guitar  solos  and  leads.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  that  have  a  very  depressive  tone  to  them  at  times  along  with  some  deep  growls  and  spoken  word  parts,  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Belgian  and  English  and  cover  dark  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  while  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Alkerdeel  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  raw  and  primitive  black  metal,  drone  and  sludge  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Winterteens"  and  "Du  Levande".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
