BlackStream/Coven Of Impurity/Narbentage Produktionen/2024 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Italy's  BlackStream  and  Coven  Of  Impurity  which  was  released  in  2024  by  Narbentage  Produktionen  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  BlackStream  who  return  with  a  a  very  raw,  old  school,  experimental  and  occult  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  synth  orientated  intro  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  demonic  growls  and  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  very  heavily  influenced  by  the  90's  era.  

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  their  side  of  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  along  with  the  music  also having  its  ritualistic,  lo-fi  and  experimental  moments.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  and  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Black  Magick  and  Nihilism  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  BlackStream  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  experimental,  raw  and  old  school  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Kabalistik  Chasity  Blasphematory"  and  "Into  The  Sands  of  Oblivion".

  Next  up  is  Coven  of  Impurity  a  band  that  plays  a  very  satanic  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  slow,  dark  and  heavy  sound   while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  lot  of  blast b eats.

  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  fast  riffing  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  Clean  playing  is  also  added  on  one  song  along  with  the  tracks  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  a  lot  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era  and  their  side  of  the  split  closes  with  a  Mercyful  Fate  cover.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  and  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Hell  and  Black  Magick  themes.   

  In  my  opinion  Coven  Of  Impurity  are  a  very  great  sounding  satanic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  'Souls  To  The  Devil".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  satanic  and  occult  black  metal.  8 out  of  10.

BlackStream/666 Swords...In Your Skull!/Dynamite Productions/2023 EP Review

 

  Italy's  BlackSttream  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  occult  black  metal,  experimental  and  industrial  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  ep  "666  Swords...In  Your  Skull!"  which  was  released  by  Dynamite  Productions.

  Ritualistic  sounding  synths  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  also  adding  in  elements  of  industrial.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  demonic  growls  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Programmed  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  in  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  while  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Touches  of  ambient  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  synths  along  with  one  track  also  being  an  instrumental,  electronic  noises  are  also  utilized  briefly.

  On  this  recording  BlackSream  brings  in  a  very  ritualistic  and  experimental  sounding  mixture  of  occult  black  metal,  ambient,  noise  and  industrial.  The  production  sounds  very  dark,  raw  and  lo-fi  while  the  Lyrics  cover  occultism,  Rituals  and  Witchcraft  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  BlackStream  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  ambient,  noise,  experimental  and  industrial,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Divorcement  From  Immaculacy"  and  "Freezing  Desert  Of  Evil".  8  out  of  10.

Nocratai/BlackStream/Psychotropic Luciferian Extravaganza/2023 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  self  released  2023  album  between  Italy's  Nocratai  and  BlackStream  called  "Psychotropic  Luciferian  Extravagaanza"  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  black  metal,  noise  and  industrial.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  distorted  amp  noises  before  adding  in  some  raw  tremolo  picking.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also h ave  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  one  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Industrial  style  beats  can  also  be  heard  at  times  as  well  as  some  spoken  word  parts  also  being  utilized  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  war  and  destruction  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Nocratai  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  black  metal,  noise  and  industrial  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMEDNED  TRACK  "Empty  And  Delapidated".

  Next  yup  is  BlackStream  who  return  with  their  occult  mixture  of  black  emtal,  noise  and  industrial.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  ambient  synth  orientated  intro  along  with  some  ritualistic  spoken  word  parts  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Harsh  noises  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  industrial  style  beats.  

Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  music  also  having  its  experimental  moments,  demonic  growls  can  also  be  hard  at  times  and  each  track  also  sounds  very  different  from  each  other.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  over  Occultism,  Satanism,  Nihilism  and  Black  Magick  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  BlackStream  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  occult  black  metal,  noise  and  industrial,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Fuck  You  666".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black  metal,  noise  and  industrial.  8  out  of  10.

BlackStream/Whispers And Curses...A Journey In Darkness -2005 -2010/Eternal Darkness Creations/2023 Cassette Compilation Review

 

  BlackStream  are  a  band  from  Italy  and  on  this  recording  played  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  which  also  evolves  into  a  more  experimental  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  compilation  album  "Whispers  And  Curses...A  Journey  In  Darkness  -  2005  -2010"  which  was  released  on  cassette  by  Eternal  Darkness  Creations.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  compilation  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  90's  era  and  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.

  Throughout  the  compilation you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.  Some  of  the  songs  are  also  instrumentals  along  with  one  song  also  introducing  synths  onto  the  compilation  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  recording  at  times.

  

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  music  also  having  it's  lo-fi  moments.  Some  of  the  later  tracks  also  show  the  band  working  with  a  more  experimental  style  that  later  became  a  huge  part  of  later  releases  as  well  as  some  songs  also  bringing  in  elements  of  ambient,  death  metal  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  on  song  also  adds  in  a brief  use  of  chaotic  sounding  guitar  leads.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism,  Black  Magick  and  Nihilism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  BlackStream  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  the  raw, old  school,  satanic,  occult  and  experimental  styles  of  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Forest  Of  The  Shadows"  "The  Ugly  Witches  Dance"  "The  Return  Of  The  Ancient  Spirit"  and  "Darkest  Night  of  The  Sleepless  Ghost".  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Italy's  Vultur  and  BlackStream  called  "Fuck  You  In  Heaven!"  which  was  released  on  cassette  by  Mistica  Funebre  Productions  and  we  will  start  of  the  review  with  Vultur  who  return  with  their  occult  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  dark  and  ritualistic  sound  along  with  a  brief  use  of  synth  before  adding  in  some  clean  playing  which  also  takes  the  music  into  a  heavier  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly deep  yet  grim  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,   mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Italian  and  cover  Sardinian  Occultism  themes.

  Next  up  is  BlackStream  who  return  with  a  ritualistic  mixture  of  occult  black  metal,  industrial,  noise  and  dark  ambient. 

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  ritualistic  sounding  synths  before  adding  in  some  drum  beats,  industrial  elements  and  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Demonic  growls  and  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  music  also  adding  in  some  elements  of  noise,  drone  and  dark  ambient  at  times,  church  choirs  can  also  be  heard  briefly  towards  the  end.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Black  Magick,  Blasphemy  and  Nihilism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  BlackStream  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ritualistic  occult  black  metal,  industrial,  noise  and  dark  ambient,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Devil!Devil!Devil!"  and  "Sweet  Father  (Of  Shit).

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  occult  and  ritualistic  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

BlackStream Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
1 - Hellz. Here's BlackStream from Italy. We started as a four piece in Dec.2005 playing raw black metal influenced by Perdition Hearse,Profanatica, Hellhammer recording our first demo
.etc In mid 2006 we changed direction/style because early members (Bonestorm and Misterum) were kicked out because they weren't sick and perverted as us!! After a while we decided to restart with a
completely new idea: a new raw black metal dimension experimenting with synth keys and noisy stuff recording analogically and lo-fi as the early 90's commanded.
We released various stuff (demos and albums and splits) following this way, until the hiatus from 2010 to some months ago.


2.Recently you  have released a demo, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
2 - yes, the DIGITAL PERVERSION demo (available via our bandcamp/mail) enclose various influences : from the occult black metal to ritualistic ambient plus industrial and noise huge influences. let's
say we are influenced by second era Havohej, Beherit (Messe des morts), Mz412, mysticum, current 93,Lord Diabolus, Goat Vulva..and other sick projekts!!!



3.The band was broken up for 10 years, what was the cause of the split and also the decision to reform?
3 - at that time we were involved in other projects causing the hiatus for unknown time. We met during the covid-19 Pandemic at a local hospital for some check-ups while speaking about old times
we decided to bring the sick beast back because we both had lots of ideas rising lately.


4.Originally the band started out playing more of a traditional black metal style but have evolved into more of an experimental style, what was the decision behind going into this musical direction?
4 - As we said before, our band mates of that time were originally pretty involved in the project, with good ideas (riffing and lyrics) but they start lacking of creativity, interest and
 sickness.
Being in 2 and with a solid creativity and fantasy we started as a "joke" using the synth replacing the guitars and we liked the idea to play experimental "synthetic" black metal but
recording it in the raw analogue way. In a certain way we didn't completey part ways from our origins because we kept a a cacophonic style of recording, and you can hear it also in our last demo.



5. A lot of your lyrics cover Occultism and Black Magick themes, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the black arts?
5 - We are attracted by everything which is disturbing , weird and wicked: music, photography, abandoned graveyards and crypts, sick horror movies and disturbed minds. We also like to read a lot. imagine what.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'BlackStream'?
6 - in 2005 we dealt with some stupid guys who though to be the best musicians in town which was also a christian shitty band (too lousy..haha!!) and they were called LifeStream. they used to play in our
rehearsal room too, and, after an early rehearsal we decided to taunt them catholic scum and while started as Deathstream, we finally changed the moniker to BlackStream, which was pretty evocative
and obscure.

7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the demo cover?
7 - As the title may suggest, this old fresco caught our attention because mary and jesus' glance was pretty weird don't you think? we used the traditional cut n'paste artwork which is more genuine.
the imaginary is not secondary to music in our opinion and this is the first impact for the listener.


8.Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea?
8- No. we only record and do rituals in our ritual chambers.

9.In the earlier days the band was also a part of a great amount of splits, can you tell us a little bit more about the bands or musical projects you shared these recordings with?
9 - our first split included blackstream and our side projects we had at that time. Blackstream's song was a raw black metal track from early rehearsals. In 2006 we also were included in 2 other splits
the first with an italian noise project and the second with the well known(at that time) depressive bm band Wedard .all the split were relased on CD-R and originally badly distributed.


10.Currently the band is unsigned but has been on a label in the past, are you open to working with another label again in the future?
10 - of CURSE. we are currently distributing and bringing back the occultistic blackness bizarre. Besides, we are working on new songs for a following up EP - and searching for a professional
release (both 7" and tape will be extremely proper for our sound devoted to the old kult) so if there's a label involved in this sound and interested, they can contact us and we are glad to send our promo stuff.


11.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your recordings by fans of black metal and experimental music?
11 - we honestly can say that , from the few response we had in the past, that for sure we had mixed opinions and reviews. not everybody (logically!) understood our kind of sound with don't blame, we just
don't care. we follow  our own path!

12.When can we expect another full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

12- as we said before, we are working on new material, so please be patient and wait for new bizarre sick emissions!

13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

13 - read answer no.2 (for influences) : nowadays we still listen to old cults that everybody knows from judas priest to black crucifxion haaha!! we listening also to sick electronic music,
classical music ,experimental stuff...we don't find lots of interesting new stuff, but some recent bands like Moenen Of Xezebeth, Perverted Ceremony, Witchcraft for sure are cool.

  BlackStream are  a  duo  from  Italy  that  plays  an  experimental  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  demo "Digital  Perversion".

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  start  off  the  demo  along  with  some  demonic  voices  a  few  seconds  later  while  the  music  also  brings  in  elements  of  experimental,  industrial  and  noise.  Programmed  beats  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.
