Predictor/...thus spoke death/Iron Bonehead Productions/Knekelput Records/2021 EP Review

Predictor  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  ep  "...thus  spoke  death"  which  will  be  released  in  November  as  a  joint  effort  between  Iron  Bonehead  Productions  and  Knekelput  Records.

A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  early  90's  era.

Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  All  of  the  songs  also  avoid  the  use  of  any  solos  or  melodies  as  well  as  also  sticking  to  a  heavier  direction  and  the  ep  closes  with  a  cover  of  Besatt's  "Ave  Master  Lucifer".

Predictor  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  goes  back  to  the  early  90's  era  of  the  genre.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  ands  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Luciferian  and  Darkness  themes.

In  my  opinion  Predictor  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of t his  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Black  Altar"  and  "Infernal  Goat  Squadron".  8  out  of  10.

Predictor Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?

Greetings and thank you for the interview-request.The evolution of Predictor was, as it is often in life, a chain of many good hazards. Last Summer, Baxaxaxa requested me to do the sound-production for their Demo „The old Evil“. We already knew each other and were jamming roundabout 12 years ago. But somehow, we went on our own paths for a while, to come back together now. What is quite good, since we improved our skills and sound a lot better than 12 years before. Cryptic Tormentor and me spend a lot of time to jam during the recordings. Both of us has the same imagination of how Predictor should sound and with this symbiosis we could created a lot of Songs. So Predictor was found Summer 2019.

2.Recently you have released your first demo, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style you went for on the recording?

Predictor-sound is very raw with a paling athmosphere, forceful, combined with fast and blasting part. Our style arose during the first rehearsals, and since we were more than pleased with the result, we knew that this is how we want to sound. We're both rooted in all kinds of extreme Metal and each of us brought his own influences. In the creation-process, we play all parts from our inside and refine it during the recordings. With Black Bunker Sounds, I’ve setting up a studio to let the music sound like it really should: Raw and dark. It sounds like the soundtrack and vision of the apocalypse and purification from the tainted humanity.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?

In general, the lyrics are morbid and apocalyptic predictions and visions, phrased in religious stories and descriptions of occult occurrences and Creatures.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Predictor'?

The naming was one of the later parts in the foundation phase, but it came before the lyrics were written. We recorded the songs and listen several times to them to find a exact subject-direction. Predictor is the perfect fitting name for us, since our songs are (as already told) morbid and apocalyptic visions. And the Predictor unveiling them. Also Predictions have always been an important part in Black Metal lyrics, just think of Samael's "Morbid Metal".

5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the demo cover?

The Artwork is designed by a higly-valued artist Black DeathSign. He is one of the people who can feel the energy of our music and with this connection, he designed the Artwork exactly how we want it. It shows The True Predictor, a Prophet of unadorned Visions.

6.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?

There are no plans to extend the Band right now, but we will leave this option open. The future will show us, how this project will evolve.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Officially, the demo is a Black Bunker Sounds release (BBS001). It’s released by our own, so we are independent for now. Time will show if a fitting label will be interested in releasing our creations.

8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

Since release some days ago, the feedback was quite good as expected, but to make a more precise résumé, we have to wait until we get enough feedback. It already has been bought by maniacs in Germany, the United States, Denmark and we also got some feedback from other european countries. As we all know, also South-America and Asia have a great scene, so we will see if our Demo makes the way to there.

9.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

A full-length Album will be released for sure. Indeed, our artistic process is straight and fast, but it is also energetic. We have almost enough material. When we feel ready, we will start recording. The focus is also on getting the Songs straight that we will be able to play live-gigs.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

A complete list would be too long. But you can start with Black Sabbath, Sodom, Venom, Bathory and end with great newer Bands like Teitanblood, Funeral Mist e.g. We listen to a lot of music, and thankfully there are more than enough great bands that communicate the right (or wrong) atmosphere.
Soundtracks are also a big part of our musical interest.

11.Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?

Yes, it is a main-component.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thought

Again, thanks a lot for the Interview! Predictor is bursted with energy. Keep the flame burning and watch out for new Predictions!

Predictor/Demo 2020 Review

Predictor  are  a  duo  from  Germany  that  plays  a  furious  and  blasphemous  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2020  demo.

Fire  sounds  start  off  the  demo  before  going  into a   heavier  musical  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  When  tremolo  picking  is  utilized  it  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw feeling  as  well  as  the  demo  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  all  of  the  music  also  sticking  to  a  heavier  direction.

Predictor  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  aggressive  sounding  in  the  90's  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  blasphemous  and  apocalyptic  themes.

In  my  opinion  Predictor  are  a  very  great  sounding  furious,  apocalyptic  and  blasphemous  black  metal  duo  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Smell  Of  Sulphur"  and  "Path  to  Megiddo".  8  out  of  10.
