Nocturnal Tyrant/Gergesenes/Under The Dark Soil/2023 Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Spain/U.S.A's  Nocturnal  Tyrant  and  United  Kingdom's  Gergesenes  which  will  be  released  on  cassette  by  Under  The  Dark  Soil  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Nocturnal  Tyrant  an  international  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  synth  orientated  intro  before  going  into  a  very  fast,  raw  and  melodic  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  Swedish  style,  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  when  they  are  utilized.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  and  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  murder  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Nocturnal  Tyrant  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  melodic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Murderous  Cravings".

  Next  up  is  Gergesesenes  a  solo  project  who  returns  with  a  very  raw  and  lo-fi  mixture  of  black  metal,  noise  and  field  recordings.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  field  recordings  and  harsh  noises  while  his  only  track  is  also  over  20  minutes  in  length.  Spoken  word  parts  and  clear  chants  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  adding  in  some  heavier  direction.  All  of  the  music  also  brings  in  more  of  an  improved  atmosphere  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  

  

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  track  more  of  a  raw  feeling,  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  that  covers  the  Dyatlov  Incident.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Gergesenes  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  metal,  noise  and  field  recordings',  you  should  check  out  his  side  of t he  split.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  fans  of  the  many  different  styles  of  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Gergesenes/Exorcism Of The Geresene Demoniac/2021 Full Length Review

 

  Gergesenes  are  a  solo  project  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  lo-fi  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2021  album  "Exorcism  Of  The  Geresene  Demoniac".

  Epic  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  and  the  music  also  captures  a  very  lo-fi  atmosphere.

  The  vocals  are  mostly  either  tortured  or  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  closing  track  being  an  ambient  drone  instrumental

  On  this  recording  Gergesenes  adds  in  some  depressive  touches  and  synths  to  his  raw  and  lo-fi  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Gergesenes  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  lo-fi  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Exorcism  Of  The  Geresene  Demoniac"  and  "Lavurum  Plenus".  8  out  of  10.

Gergesenes/The Beast Between Two Heads/2019 Single Review

  Gergesenes  are  a  solo  project  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  lo-fi  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2019  single  "The  Beast  Between  Two  Heads".

  A  very  fast,  raw  and  lo-fi  sound  starts  of  the  track  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  as  well as  a  small  amount  of  demonic  growls  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences  and  the  track  also  adds  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  Gergesenes  plays  a  style  of  black  emtal  that  is  very  raw  and  lo-fi  sounding.  The  prosecution  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Gergesenes  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  lo-fi  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out t his  single.  8  out  of  10.
