Thrawsunblat/IV: Great Brunswick Forest/Ignifera Records/2018 CD Review

  Thrawsunblat  are  a  band  from  New  Brunswick,  Canada  that  has  been  featured and  on  this  recording  moves  away  from  the  raw  and  melodic  style  of  black/folk  metal  to  go  into  more  of  a  folk  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "IV:  Great  Brunswick  Forest"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Ignifera  Records.

  Acoustic  guitars  start  off  the album  and  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  folk  onto  the  recording  while  clean  vocals  are  also  utilized  at  times  along  with  some  fiddles  also being  used  as  a  lead  instrument  on  the  tracks  as  well as  the  music  capturing  the  atmosphere  of  the  pagan  era.

  Elements  of  melodic  rock  can  also  be  heard  at  times  while  the  acoustic  guitars  also  bring  in a  great  mixture  of  finger  picking  and  full  chords  and  a few  tracks  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  electric  guitars  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  metal  influence  along  with  most  of t he  songs  sounding  different  from  each  other.

  On  this  recording  Thrawsunblat  moves  way  from  the  more  black  metal  oriented  material  to  create  an  album  that  is  more  closer  to  folk  music  and  melodic  rock  while  some  metal  influences  can  be  heard,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  nature  and  folklore  of  Canada.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Thrawsunblat  and  while  some  black  metal  fans  might  not  like  it,  I  can  still  see  this  appealing  to  fans  of  traditional  folk  music  or  folk  metal.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Green  Man  Of  East  Canada"  "Song  Of  The  Summit"  and  "Dark  Sky  Sanctuary".  8  out  of  10.

Thrawsunblat/Metachthonia/Ignifera Records/Broken Limbs/23016 CD Review

  Thrawsunblat  are  a  band  from  New  Brunswick,  Canada  that  plays  a  raw  and  melodic  mixture  of  folk  and  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Metachthonia"  which  will  be  released  on  June  17th  as  a  joint  effort  between  Ignifera  Records  and  Broken  Limbs.

  Cellos  start  off  the  album  and  they  also  give  the  music  more  of  a  tragic  atmosphere along  with  some  melodic  guitar  leads  a  few  seconds  later  and  after  awhile  the  music  starts  to  speed  up  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  gives  the  music  a  very  raw  feeling  along  with  some  grim  yet  high  pitched  screams.

  Both  the  heavy  and  cello  parts  mix  together  in  some  parts  of  the  songs  and  clean  singing  pagan  vocals  are  used  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  throughout  the  album  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  there  is  also  a  decent  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  being  used  in  some  of  the  tracks  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  medieval  folk  music  feeling  and  a  great  portion  of  the songs  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length and  as  the  album  progresses  fiddles  can  be  heard  briefly  and  spoken  word  parts  are  also  use  for  a  few  seconds  towards  the  end.

  Thrawsunblat  plays  a  musical style  that  takes  a  raw  and  melodic  style  of  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  pagan  and  folk  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Thrawsunblat  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  melodic  mixture of  black  and folk  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you should  check  out this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "She  Who  Names  The  Stars"  and  "In  Mist  We  Walk".  8  out of  10.
