Magister Dixit/Their Blood, Their Sweat, Their Tears/Scum Productions/2018 CD Review

  Quebec,  Canada's  Magister  Dixit  have  returned  with  another  recording  that  continues  the  epic  and  melodic  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Their  Blood,  Their  Sweat,  Their  Tears"  which  was  released  by  Scum  Productions.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  keyboards  gives  the  songs  a  more  epic  atmosphere  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  songs  also  adding  in  clean  vocals  and  they  also  bring  in  a  few  instrumentals  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  war  sounds  and  spoken  word  parts  but  keeping  the  main  focus  on  a  heavier  musical  direction  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  log  and  epic  in  length.

  Magister  Dixit  creates  another  recording  that  remains  true  to  their  epic,  atmospheric  and  melodic  style  of  black  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  War  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Magister  Dixit  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  epic,  melodic  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Frontline  Cannon  Folder"  "Flamethrower"  "Crushing  The  Monastery"  and  "Born  With  The  Fire  in  Our  Eyes".  8  out  of  10.

Magister Dixit/Opus Astral/Scum Productions/2016 Full Length Review

  Magister  Dixit  are  a  band  from  Quebec,  Canada  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  epic  and  melodic  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Opus  Astral"  which  was  released  by  Scum  Productions.

  A  very  fast,  and  raw  black  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  blast  beats,  grim  screams  and  epic  keyboards  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  music also  has  a  perfect  balance  between  the  symphonic  and  raw  style  of  black  metal  being  more  rooted  in  the  90's.

  Melodic  riffing  can  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  clean  singing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recordings  while  the  keyboards  bring  in  a  classical  music  feeling  at  times  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  guitars  can  be  heard  briefly  and  towards  the  end  of  the  recording  they  bring  in  a  cover  of  Katyklysm's  "Elder  God"  which  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  death  metal  elements.

  Magister  Dixit  creates  another  keyboard  dominated  black  metal  recording  that  is  as  epic  and  melodic  as  their  previous  recordings  while  never  losing  any  heaviness  or  raw  aggression,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  medieval,  hypocrisy,  past  and  future  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Magister  Dixit  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  epic  and  melodic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "My  Name  Is  Forbidden"  "Reaching  the  Throne  Of  Aeruul  the  Mighty"  and  "A  Deadly  Compass".  8  out  of  10.

Magister Dixit/Maze Of Thousand Ways/PRC Music/2013 CD Review

  Magister  Dixit  are  a  band  from  Quebec,  Canada  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric  and  epic  form  of black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Maze  Of  Thousand  Ways"  which  was  released  by  PRC  Music.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  thrown  into  the  music  at  times,  while  the  keyboards  bring  a  very  dark,  atmospheric  and  epic  sound  to  the  recording  along  with  a  brief  use  of  flutes,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars  and  at  times  they  have  a  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  90's  style  Scandinavian  style  black  metal  riffs  that  utilize  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies,  well  the  lead  guitars  are  very  melodic  sounding  black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  classical  guitars  which  are  only  used  briefly  use  finger  picking  and  full  chords  to  enhance  the  dark  atmosphere  of  the  music.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  with  some  clean  singing  and  deep  growls,  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  occult  themes  with  the  last  song  being  written  in  French,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  dark  sound  to  it  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Magister  Dixit  are  a  very  great  sounding  epic  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Maze  Of  Thousand  Ways"  "Ancient  Tongue  We  Speak"  and  "L'  Heritier  du  Mal".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
