Deha/TheIllusion of Reach/Naturmacht Productions/2023 Full Length Review

 

  Belgium's  solo  project  Deha  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a depressive  style  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  post  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  album  "The  Illusion  Of  Reach"  which  will  be  released  on  December  29th  by  Naturmacht  Productions.

   An  ambient  orientated  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  playing  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  brings  in  elements  of  post  rock  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  depressive  black  metal  screams  while  melodies  can  also be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  A  lot  of  the  music  also  adds  in  influences  from  the  earlier  days  of  dsbm,  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  closing  song  is  also  an  instrumental.

  On  this  recording  Deha  goes  back  to  the  earlier  days  of  depressive  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  post  rock  to  create  a  very  melancholic  album.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  depression  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Deha  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  depressive  black  metal  and  post  rock,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Anymore"  and  "Mind  over  Matter".  8  out  of  10.

Deha/Decadanse/Les Acteurs de L'Ombre Productions/2022 CD Review

 

  Belgium's  Deha  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  mixture  of  avant  garde,  industrial,  black,  doom  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  album  "Decadanse"  which  will  be  released  on  March  18th  by  Les  Acteurs  de  L'Ombre  Producxtions.

 Dark  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  industrial  style  beats  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  at  times.  Both  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  while  elements  of  doom  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  tracks.

 

 Whispered  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  sounding  along  with  some  death  metal  growls  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  album.

  Tortured  voices  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  some  clear  vocals  also  being  utilized  on  both  tracks.  Black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  as  well  as  the  tracks  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style,  clean  playing  and  back  up  shouts  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  track.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  metaphysical  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Deha  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  avanr  garde,  industrial,  black,  doom  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  Devil's  Science".  8  out  of  10.

Deha/A Fleur de Peau - III - A Fire That Does Not Burn/Naturmacht Productions/2020 Full Length Review

  Belgium''s  solo  project  Deha  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  ethereal  and  depressive  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2020  album  "A  Fleur  de  Peau  -  III  -  A  Fire  That  Does  Not  Burn"  which  will  be  released  on  August  7th   by  Naturmacht  Productions.

  Atmospheric  sounding  synths  start  off  the  album  and  also  mixes  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  yet  depressive  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Clean  male  and  female  vocals  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  recording  while  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  when  the  music  speeds  up.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  one  track  also  introducing  clean  playing  onto  the  album  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  saxophones.

  The  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  faster  riffing  also  adding  in  some  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  tracks  also  add  in  some  session  work  from  embers  of  Shape  Of  Despair,  Austere,  Maladie, Collapse  Of  Light and  Sirenia.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  depressive  and  mythological  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Deha  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  ethereal  and  atmospheric  depressive  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hope  For  Twilight"  and  "I  Am  Not  Complete".8out  of  10.

Deha/Cruel Words/Rain Without End Records/2019 CD Review

  Deha  are  a  solo  project  from  Belgium  that  plays  a  mixture  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  sludge  and  post  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2019  album  "Cruel  Words"  which  will  be  released  on  March  29th  by  Rain  Without  End  Records.

  Clean  post  rock  style  playing  starts  off  the  album  while  all  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Melodic  vocals  are  also  used  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  while  elements  of  doom  and  sludge  metal  can  also be  heard  in  the  slower  sections  of  the  heavier  riffing  as  well  as  some  elements  of  shoegaze  also  being  used  at  times.

  Grim  black  metal  screams  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  depressive  feeling  when  they  are  utilized.  When  the  music  finally  speeds  up  a  small  amount  of blast  beats  are  added  onto  the  recording  but  keeping  the  music  more  focused  on  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  style  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  keyboards  are  added  onto  the  recording  and  when  guitar  leads  are  brought  into  the  music  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Deha  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  atmospheric  depressive  black  metal,  sludge  and  post  rock  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  sound  of  his  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  Deha  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  atmospheric  depressive  black  metal,  sludge  and  post  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solo  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Pain Is  A  Wasteland" and  "Cruel  Words".  8  out  of  10.
