Kurhan/Wieza/2022 CD Review

 

  Kurhan  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  aggressive  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2022  album  "Wieza".

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal    direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  some  melodies  at  times.

  Vocals  are  mostly  mid  80's  style  death  metal  growls  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  thrash  metal  elements.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  as  well  as  the  music  also  showing  influences  of  both  the  old  school  and  modern  eras  of  extreme  metal,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  synths  can  also  be  heard.

  On  this  recording  Kurhan  remain  true  to  the  aggressive  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  that  they  had  established  on  their  previous  release.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  darkness  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Kurhan  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "O  wlos"  "Szpik"  and  "Ostatine  dni".  8  out  of  10.

Kurhan/G _od/Arachnophobia Records/2015 CD Review

  Kurhan  are  a  band  from  Poland  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  extreme  mixture  of  black, death  and  thrash  metal   and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "G-od"  which  was  released  by  Arachnophobia  Records.

  A  very  fast,  raw  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  decent  amount  of  melody  and  a  few  seconds  later  angry  shouting  style  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  giving  the music  more  of  a  thrash  metal  feeling  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  influences  from  both  the  first  and  second  waves  of  black  metal.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  brutal  blast  beats  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  an d  the  later  songs  show  a  very  heavy  death  metal  influence  to  them  which  they  mix  in  with  a  fast  and  melodic  style  of  black  metal  that is  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  and  all  of  the  tracks  stick  to  a  very  heavy,  brutal  and  raw  sound  and  there  are  no  soft  or  clean  parts  present  anywhere  on  the  recording.

  Kurhan  takes  the  most  raw,  extreme  and  brutal  elements  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  combine  them  together  to  create  a  very  heavy  recording  that  is  non  stop  brutality,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Polish  and  cover  darkness  and  death.

  In  my  opinion  Kurhan  are  a  very  great  sounding  fast  and  extreme  mixture  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Porz_Dek"  "O_Tarze"  and  "Koniec".  8  out  of  10.
