A Cackle Or A Coughing Fit/Sea In A Circle/2013 Full Length Review

  This  is  the  final  review  of  a  recording  from  A  Cackle  Or  A  Coughing  Fit"  with  the  musical  style  continuing  their  original  approach  to  experimental  black  metal  with  the  album  being  self  released  in  2013  and  called  "Sea  In  A  Circle".

  "Dogfish"  starts  off  with  a  spoken  word  recital  of  Mary  Oliver's  poem  while  also  adding  in  some  synths,  drum  blast  beats  which  leads  up  to  the  depressive  black  metal  screams  and  cries.

  "Wire  Thicket"  starts  off  with  drums,  avant  garde synths,  banjos  and  black  metal  screams  which  leads  up  to  some  melodic  post  rock  guitar  leads.

  "You  Are  The  Eyes  Of  The  Wild"  starts  off  with  a  few  seconds  of  talking  before  the  black  metal  screams,  drums,  and  avant  garde  post  rock  synths  kick  in  and  as  the  song  moves  you  can  hear  some  acoustic  guitars  and  banjos.

  "The  Bridge  And  The  Nest"  starts  off  with  drums  and  video  game  style  synths  along  with  some  emo  style  clean  singing  and  black  metal  screams  before  going  into  nature  sounds  and  adding  in  banjos  which  leads  to  some  amplified  guitar  effects,  blast  beats  and  post  black  metal  style  guitar  riffing.

  ''Shadow  On  The  Water"  starts  off  with  drums,  80's  style  synths  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  which  also  add  in  some  depressive  and  suicidal  cries  before  the  clean  singing  comes  in  towards  the  end.

  "Bells  Or  Wings"  starts  off  with slow  drumming  and  light  primitive  black  metal  guitar  riffs  which  leads  to  the  synths  and  depressive  screams  while  also  adding  in  elements  of  post  rock.

  "Wrinkling"  starts  off  with  experimental  sound  effects  before  the  drums,  guitar  riffs  and  black  metal  screams  kick  in  along  with  some  dark  synths  before  evolving  into  blast  beats  and  primitive  guitar  riffing.

  "Tangle"  starts  off  with  powerful  drumming  and  synths  along  with  some  banjos  while  also  mixing  in  elements  of  post  rock  along  with  a  blast  beat  towards  the  end.

  Lyrics  cover  poetic  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  while  you  can  still  hear  all   of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

  In  my  opinion t his  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  A  Cackle  Or  A  Coughing  Fit  and  if  you  are  looking  for  something  very  original,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dogfish"  "Shadow  On  The  Water"  and  "Wrinkling".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

A Cackle Or A Coughing Fit/Keep The Lights Burning/2012 Full Length Review

  This  is  another  review  of  a  recording  from  A  Cackle  Or  A  Coughing  Fit  which  continues  their  original  form  of  experimental  black  metal  with  the  album  being  self  released  in  2012  and  "Keep  The  Lights  Burning".

  "Spirit  In  A  Room"  starts  off  with  a  banjo  playing  soft  and  then  going  into  a  fast  black  metal  riff  which  is  also  on  the  same  instrument  along  with  the  grim  screams  and  as  the  song  moves  on  whistles  make  their  way  into  the  music.

  "The  Lighthouse  And  The  Storm"  starts  off  with  guitar  amplifier  noise  and  a  guitar  lead  which  leads  to  power  chords  which  slowly  starts  adding  in  melody  drumming  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  which  utilize  depressive  and  suicidal elements.

  "Tunnel"  starts  of  with  some  clean  guitar  playing  with  post  rock  elements  in  the  background  staying  that  way  for  awhile  before  the  drums  kick  in  and  the  guitars  get  faster  with  pop  punk  melodies  as  well  as  some  clean  singing  which  leads  up  to  heavier  doom  elements  and  suicidal  black  metal  screams  and  cries  along  with  a  dark  guitar  lead  which  shows  up slowly  after  that  before  adding  in  more  clean  playing  and  reverb  while  not  forgetting  about  the  screams  and  cries.

  "Tremble"  starts  off  with  a  few  seconds  of  silence    before  some  clean  and  distorted  guitar  playing  comes  in  with  some  beginner  style  guitar  leads  before  kicking  off  into  some  mid  paced  black  metal  riffing  and  depressive  screams  and  cries  as  well  as  drum   beats  and  the  song  closes  with  pop  punk  elements.

  "You  Are  Welcome  Here  Until  The  Cold  Takes  You"  starts  off  with  melodic  chanting  along  with  sound  effects  in  the  background  with  no  musical  instruments  being  present  on  this  song  but  there  is  a  brief  use  of  black  metal  style  vocals.

  Lyrics  on  this  album  cover  dark,  depressive  and  humorous  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to it  with  most  of  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  A  Cackle  Or  A  Coughing  Fit  and  if  you  are  looking  for  something  that  is  very  original,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Spirit  In  A  Room"  and  "Tunnel".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.

  A  Cackle  Or  A  Coughing  Fit  are  a  1  man  band  from  Rhode  Island  that  plays  a  very  experimental  form  of  post  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2010  single  "Little  Wanderer,  Were  You  Followed".

  "Little  Wanderer,  Were  You  Followed"  starts  off  with  some  fast  acoustic  guitar  playing  before  the  grim  sounding  screams  keep  in  with  the  riffing  changing  paces  around  a  bit  after  awhile  the  song  goes  into  a  more  folk  direction  along  with  clean  singing  while  still  keeping  the  screams  in  some  parts  as  well  as  utilizing  some  finger  picking.

  "The  House  That  Was  Once  Your  Home  In  The  Country"  starts  off  with  acoustic  guitar  playing  with  some  distortion  in  the  background  before  the  drum  blast  beats  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  kick  in and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  the  song  goes  more  into  a  soft  folk  rock  direction  along  with  some  clean  singing.

  "Seasonal  Depression" starts  off  with  some  acoustic  guitars  before  getting  heavy  and  raw  with  the  grim  and  high  pitched  screams for  a  few  seconds  with  a  few  seconds  of  soft  playing  before  the  heavy  distortion  kicks  in.


  Lyrics  on  the  single  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

  In  my  opinion  A  Cackle  Or  A  Coughing  Fit  are  a  very  great  sounding  and  original  experimental,  acoustic  black  metal  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  single.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  House  That  Was  Once  Your  Home  In  The  Country".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
