Barshasketh/Antinomian Asceticism/W.T.C Productions/2025 Full Length Review

 

  New  Zealand/Scotland's  Barshasketh  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  raw,  atmospheric  and  melodic  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  album  "Antinomian  Asceticism"  which  will  be  released  in  2025  by  W.T.C  Productions.

  Bells  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  a  lot  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style,  one  song  also  introduces  clean  playing  onto  the  album.

  The  music  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  along  with the  songs  also  mixing  in  influences   form  both  the  old  school  and  modern  eras  of  the  genre,  synths  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  one  song  is  also  an  instrumental  and  when  whispers  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  album  more  of  a  ritualistic  touch.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Left  Hand  Path,  Existentialism  and  Philosophy  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Barshasketh  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  atmospheric  and  melodic  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Radiant  Aperture"  "Charnel  Quietism"  and  "Exultation  Of  Ceaseless  Defiance".  8 out  of  10.

Barshasketh/Self Titled/W.T.C Productions/2019 Full Length Review

  New  Zealand/United  Kingdom's  Barshasketh  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  with  the  music  going  into  more  of  a  raw,  melodic  and  atmospheric  occult  black  metal  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  album  which  will  be  released  in  2019  by  W.T.C  Productions.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  melodic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  faster  sections  of  the songs  also  use  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  both  old  school  and  modern  influences.

  At  times  the  album  also  has  its  atmospheric  moments  and  as  the  recording  progresses  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks while  the  vocals  also  mix  in  a  semi  melodic  tone  in  some  parts  of  the  music  along  with  some  synths  and  clean  playing  also  being  brought  into  the  music  briefly. 

  On  this  recording  Barshasketh  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  melodic,  atmospheric  and  modern  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  based  upon  the  self  existing  in  the  cyclical  process  that  goes  through  the  phases  of  destruction,  purification  and  the  ultimate  adversarial  rebirth.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Barshasketh  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vacillation"  "Consciousness  II"  and  "Recrudescene".  8/5  out  of  10.

Barshasketh/Outre/Third Eye Temple/2017 Split EP Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  ep  between  New  Zealand/United  Kingdom's  Barshasketh  and  Poland's  Outre  both  bands  which  also  have  had  their  previous  works  reviewed  in  this  blog  along  with  the  ep  being  released  on  November  20th  by  Third  Eye  Temple  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Barshasketh  a  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  atmospheric  synths  while  their  track  is  also  7  minutes  in  length  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  while  the  song  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  based  on  the philosophical  writings  of  Martin  Heidegger.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Barshasketh  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  fast  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  Next  up is  Outre  which  shows  their  music  going  into  more  of  an  aggressive  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  fast,  heavy,  raw  and  technical  sound  along  with  some  angry  black  metal  vocals  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  as  well  as  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  solos  and  leads  bring  in  a  very  melodic  and  atmospheric  musical  style,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  as  well  with  the  previous  band  are  based  upon  the  philosophical  writings  of  Martin  Heidegger.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  fast  and  aggressive  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Barshasketh/Sitra Achra/Todestrieb/2012 CD Review

  Barshasketh  are  a  band  from  New  Zealand  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric,  raw  and  primitive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  album  "Sitra  Achra"  which  was  released  by  Todestrieb.

  Drums  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being utilized  at  times,  while  the  bass  playing  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  are  following  the  riffs  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  atmospheric  black  metal  riffs  that  are  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sounding  with  some  melody  being  utilized  at  times  as  well  as  a  brief  use  of  thrash  influences  being  utilized  on  the  last  song,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  weird  and  melodic  sounding  black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  which  are  only  used  briefly  use  full  chords  and  finger  picking  to  enhance  the  dark  atmosphere  that  is  coming  out  of  the  music.

  Vocals  mostly  grim  sounding  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  brief  use  of  deep  growls,  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  occult  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Barshasketh  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric,  raw  and  primitive  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Sitra  Achra"  "Bitter  Sagacity"  and  "Leaden  Horizon".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
