Exhumation/Funeral Chant/Sacred Oath: Temple Of Death/Carbonized Records/2026 Split Album Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Indonesia's  Exhumation  and  U.S.A's  Funeral  Chant  called  "Sacred  Oath:  Temple  Of  Death"  which  will  be  released  in  April  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Exhumation  a  band  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  clear  chants  along  with  some  Asian  style  folk  instruments  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  The  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  the  vocals  are  mostly  death  metal  growls  and  the  solos  and  leads  stick  to  an  old  school  style.

  Most  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in t he  early  90's  style  along  with  some  spoken  words  being  used  briefly.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  clear  singing  also  being  used  on  a  few  songs.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  death  and  darkness  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  Exhumation  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  death  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Master's  Prayer"  and  "Everlasting  Wall".

  Next  up  is  Funeral  Chant  who  return  with  their  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy  and  brutal  sound  while  blast b eats  are  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  sticking  to  more  of  an  old  school  death  metal  style  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  chaos  and  death  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Funeral  Chant  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Testimony  Of  Fire".  

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black  and  death  metal.  8  out  of  10.

Funeral Chant/Self Titled/Duplicate Records/Caverna Abismal Records/2017 CD Review

  Funeral  Chant  are  a  band  from  Oakland,  California  that  plays  a  raw  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  self  titled  2017  album  which  will  be  released  in  November  as  joint  effort  between  Duplicate  and  Caverna  Abismal  Records.

  Atmospheric  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  yet  distorted  playing  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  leads  to  a  heavier  direction  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while t he  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  Elements  of  death  and  thrash  metal  are  also  utilized  at  times  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  fashion  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies,  most  of  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  but  done  in  a  more  modern  fashion.  and  they  also  bring  in  a  cover  of  Repugnant's  "Mprbid  Ways".

  Funeral  Chant  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  raw  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  old  school  death  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  death  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  Funeral  Chant  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Cacophony  Of  Death"  and  "Funeral  Chant".  8  out  of  10.
