Misanthropic Rituals/A Path Through Absent Places/2020 Full Length Review

  New  Jersey's  Misanthropic  Rituals  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  them  expanding  the  raw  and  misanthropic  style  of  black  metal  from  previous  releases  from  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released 2020  album  "A  Path  Through  Absent  Places"  which  will be  released  on  May  25th.

A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  riffing  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  guitar  leads  and  solos  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  few  tracks  also  introducing  keyboards  onto  the  album.

 One  of  the  songs  is  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  an  instrumental  can  also  he  heard  before  closing  the  album  with  a  heavier  track.The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  misanthropy,  darkness  and  sorrow  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Misanthropic  Rituals  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  melodic,  atmospheric  and  misanthropic  black  metal,  you  should check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dweller  In  Nocturnes"  and  "The  Mountain  My  Cairn".  8  out  of  10.

Misanthropic Rituals/Human Dirt/2017 Full Length Review

  Misanthropic  Rituals  are  a  solo  project  from  New  Jersey  that  has  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2017  album  "Human  Dirt".

  Heavy  guitar  riffs  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  singing  and  thunder  in  the  background  before  adding  in  some  melodies  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  fashion  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  can  be  head which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Blast  beats  can  also be  heard   during  the  faster  sections  off  the  songs  while  the  vocals  are  a  mixture  of  both  deep  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  melodic  vocals  are  also  used  briefly  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  acoustic  guitars  are  also  used  briefly.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  a  couple  of  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  second  wave  influences  as  well  as  having  a  modern  atmosphere  at  times  and  clean  electric  and  acoustic  guitars  are  also  used  briefly.

  Misanthropic  Rituals  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  while  also  being  a  little  bit more  different  than  most  bands  of  the  genre,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  nature  and  misanthropic  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great sounding  recording  from  Misanthropic  Rituals  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE  "The  Coming  Storm"  and  "Serenity-In  A  Death  Filled  Paradise".  8 out  of  10.

Funeral Art/Misanthropic Rituals/Todeswalzer/One Last Howling/2017 3 Way Split Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  3  way  split  album  between  Guatemala's  Funeral  Art,  U.S.A's  Misanthropic  Rituals  and  Germany's  Todeswalzer  called  "One Last  Howling"  which  was  also  self  released  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Funeral  Art  who  returns  with  a  mixture  of  dark  ambient  and  raw  black  metal

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  ambient  style  soundscapes  along  with  some  ritualistic  whispers  a  few  seconds  later  and  the  second  track  is  very  long and  epic  while  also  bringing  in  atmospheric  sounding  synths  along  with  some   programmed  beats  and  when  vocals  are  utilized  they  are  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  the  tremolo  picking  in  the  riffing  gives  the  songs  a  more  raw  feeling  and  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  fashion  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover darkness,  night  and  witchcraft  themes. 

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Funeral  Art  and  if you  are  a  fan  of  dark  ambient and  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Niebla  del  Ovido.

  Next  up  is  Misanthropic  Rituals  a  solo  project  from  New  Jersey  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal.

  His  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  clean  guitars  and  semi  melodic  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  a  few  seconds  later  before  evolving  into  a  heavier  style  which  uses  grim  black  metal  screams  which  also  have  a  depressive  edge  to  them  at  times  and  one  the  second  track  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  raw  and  fast  musical  direction.

  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  the  music  uses  more  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  along  with  the  vocals  getting  more  high  pitched  and  you  can  also  hear a  small  amount  of melodies  along  with  the music  being  very  heavily  influenced  by  the  Finnish  style,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Misanthropic  Rituals  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  his  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Serenity  In  Death  Filled  Paradise".

  Next  up  is  Todeswalzer  a  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  form  of  black  metal.

  Their side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  drum  beats  and  dark  riffing  that  also  uses  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  to  give  the  music  a  more  raw  feeling  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  is  mostly  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  style.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  bears  can  be  heard  while  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  second  track  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  violent  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Todeswalzer  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Let  The  Swords  Speak".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it to  all  fans  of  raw  black  metal.  8  out  of  10.
