Thy Dying Light/Blackwood Live/Death Prayer Records/2018 EP Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  live  recording  from  United  Kingdom's  Thy  Dying  Light  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw,  satanic  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  and  the  ep  was  released  in  2018  by  Death  Prayer  Records  can  called  "Blackwood  Live".

  Live  audience  reaction  starts  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  dark  sounding  melodies  also  being  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  at  times.

  Most  of t he  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  while  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  On  this  recording  Thy  Dying  Light  brought  their  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  to  the  live  stage  and  showed  they  could  perform  their  material  very  well  in  a  live  setting.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Nature  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Thy  Dying  Light  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  satanic  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  live  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fist  of  Satan"  and  "Kingdom  Of  Darkness".  8  out  of  10.

  This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  United  Kingdom's  The  Dying  Light  which  showed  the  music  going  for  more  of  a  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  and  the  ep  was  released  in  2018  by  Death  Prayer  Records  and  called  "Cold  In  Death".

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  sounding  black  metal  screams.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  couple  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  guitar  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  utilized.

  On  this  recording  Thy  Dying  Light  played  a  style  of  black  metal  that  was  very  raw  and  old  school  in  the  90's  second  wave  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death  and  coldness  themes.

Thy Dying Light/Forgotten By Time/Death Prayer Records/2018 Compilation Album Review

 

  Thy  Dying  Light  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  release  where  still  a  solo  project  and  played  very  raw,  satanic  and  antisocial  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2018  compilation  album  "Forgotten  By  Time"  which  was  released  by  Death  Prayer  Records  and  consists  of  tracks  that  where  released  on  his  early  demo's  and  ep's.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  compilation  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  the  music  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  90's  influences  as  well  as  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.

  All  of t he  musical  instruments  on  the  compilation  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  album  also  adds  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Clean  playing  is  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  introduced  into  the  music,  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  some  of  the  songs  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.

  On  this  compilation  Thy  Dying  Light  played  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw,  traditional,  antisocial  and  satanic  sounding.  The  production  sound s very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Darkness  and  Plague  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  was  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Thy  Dying  Light  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  antisocial  and  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fist  Of  Satan"  "Tombs  Of  The  Forgotten"  and  "Plague  Rats".  8  out  of  10.

  Thy  Dying  Light  are  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  a  very  uncompromising  and  antisocial  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2020  album  Which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats,  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  dark  sounding  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Most  of  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  a  few  songs  while  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  which  also  captures  a  more  modern  vibe  at  times.

  The  music  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  Norwegian  influences  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts  and  whispers  can  also  be  heard  and  the  closing  track  is  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Darkness,  Death  and  Evil  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Thy  Dying  Light  are  a  very  great  sounding  uncompromising  and  antisocial  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Under  The  Horns"  "Black  Death"  "Fist  Of  Satan"  and  "Thy  Dying  Light".  8  out  of  10.
