Beorn's Hall/In His Granite Return/Naturmacht Productions/2019 CD Review

  New  Hampshire's  Beorn's  Hall  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  folk  influenced  pagan  black  metal  style  of  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "In  His  Granite  Return"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Naturmacht  Productions.

  Epic  pagan  battle  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  heavy  riffs  and  folk  music  influenced  acoustic  guitars  a  few  seconds  later.  When  keyboards  are  utilized  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  an  epic  atmosphere  while  the  vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  and  deep  growls.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  some  clean  vocals  also  being  added  into  some  parts  of  the  music.

  A brief  use  of  psychedelic  sounds  can  also  be  heard  on  one  of  the  tracks  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.  One  track  also  introduces  flutes  onto  the  recording  along  with  the  spoken  words  when  they  are  utilized  giving  the  music  more  of  a  fantasy  type  of  atmosphere.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  whispered  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  the  album  closing  with  an  instrumental.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Paganism,  Nature  and  Sorrow  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Beorn's  Hall  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  folk  influenced  pagan  black  metal,  you  should check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Old  Man  Of  The  Mountain"  and  "In  His  Granite  Realm".  8/5  out  of  10.

Beorn's Hall/Estuary/Naturmacht Productions/2018 CD Review

  Beorn's  Hall  are  a  duo  from  New  Hampshire  that  has  had  an  album  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  and  epic  form  of  pagan  black  metal  with  elements  of  folk  music  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2018  album  "Estuary"  which  will  be  released  in  February  by  Naturmacht  Productions.

  Battle  sounds  and  melodic  chants  start  off  the  album  before  adding  in  acoustic  guitars  and  folk  instruments  while  keyboards  are  also  used  at  times  along  with  spoken  word  parts  also  being  used  briefly  which  also  takes  the  music  into  a  heavier  direction  as  well  as  retaining  the  folk  and  atmospheric  elements.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  some  clean  pagan  vocals  also  being  used  briefly  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  music  a  more  raw  feeling  and  some  of  the  tracks are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion.

  On  this  recording  Beorn's  Hall  remains  true  to  their  pagan  style  of  black  metal  while  also  adding  in  more  folk  elements  this  time  around  to  take  their  music  to  a  different  level,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Paganism  and  Nature  themes.

  In  my opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Beorn's  Hall  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Dark  Wood-Black  Marsh" "The  Nurturing  Soil"  and  "Roads  Go  On  Forever".  8/5  out  of  10.

Beorn's Hall/Mountain Hymns/Naturmacht Productions/2017 CD Review

  Beorn's  Hall  are  a  band  from  New  Hampshire  that  plays  a  pagan  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2017  album  "Mountain  Hymns"  which  was  released  by  Naturmacht Productions.

  Melodic  yet  ritualistic  pagan  chanting  starts  off  the  album  and  after  awhile  rain  and  thunder  sounds  are  added  onto the  recording  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  and  stringed  instruments  which  also  adds  in  a  touch  of  folk  music  before  adding  in  a  heavier  yet  melodic  musical   style  and  a  couple  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Most  of  the  vocals  are  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  mixing  the  heavier  and  atmospheric  parts  together.

  When  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  lot  of  influences  from  the  mid  80's  to  early  90's  while  also  sounding  very  modern  at  the  same  times  and  spoken  word  parts  are  also  added  onto  some  of  the  tracks  and  acoustic  guitars  also  return   on  later  tracks  along  with  a  brief  use  of  whispered  vocals  and  a  later  track  also  brings  in  clean  pagan  singing.

  Beorn's  Hall  plays  a  style  of  pagan/black  metal  that  is  very  atmospheric  with  a  touch  of  folk  while  also  having  a  raw  and  old  school  edge  at  times,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  Nature  and  Paganism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Beorn's  Hall  are  a  very  great  sounding  pagan/black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Black  Foe  Of  The  Earth"  "The  Accused  Wind"  and  "Lord  Of  Silver  Fountains".  8  out  of  10.
