Light Beneath Interview
1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Our music is experimental, gloomy heavy post metal. Of course, there are also parts of black metal, for example, and we all try to bring something of our own preference. Our band consists of four members and we come from Tampere, Finland. -A
2.Recently you have released your first album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?
Funny thing is that the album just happened pretty naturally. We weren’t going for any specific direction or style or concept. We just let art happen and had a great fun. -V
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?
Some of the lyrics are close to real life and some describe what it could be like. Maybe the lyrics are based on the human and what it is as good as bad for others and for themselves. From the lyrics, everyone can think of their own kind of story and by looking at them more closely, one can find another meaning in it. While one might suddenly think of words and mood that everything is lost, that may not be the case. It is up to the listener to decide how they want to deal with it. I don’t know if I want to open the words any further because I want the listener to find their own theme in them -A
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Light Beneath'?
We first had the band, the music and the album ready and the name was missing. We went through hundreds of names and combinations and then suddenly Light Beneath just started to feel right. It gives hope and reflects the music and us as a band. Our music is brutal and dark but we as humans we are pretty mellow guys. :) -V
5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
The cover art and everything related to it comes from inside the band and they reflect our music. We are all interested in the different forms of art and their implementation. Images are meant to internalize all of our thoughts and gives us a picture as human beings.Taneli is very talented at putting this together in one picture -A
6.Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea?
We actually haven’t because of the pandemic. Live music is slowly starting to happen again and it is possible in the future that we would perform live. -V
Since the pandemic ruled out many opportunities for live performances, we decided to spend time making the record. -A
7.The album was released on Inverse Records', are you happy with the support the label has given you so far?
Inverse has been really great with the release. Just awesome. We’ve been able to focus on the actual music and Inverse has done a great job working on the release. Thanks Inverse! -V
8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black and post metal?
It actually has totally surprised us how well we’ve been accepted by the fans all over the world. For a new band like us, doing our own thing, the feedback has been absolutely great. We are so thrilled and thankful. It’s not intentional that we combine black and post metal. It just comes out from us pretty naturally without the need to force it. -V
9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
The band will continue to combine the interests of its members and give listeners an experience in the deep elements of gloom, not forgetting the surprises and the atmosphere. While we are looking forward to live performances from our album, new songs are already being prepared and the spirit of the band will be maintained. Of course, we learn and follow the world around us, which brings its own elements into the music. You can get inspiration from almost anywhere. -A
10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I think we all have our own favorites, but we are still united by an interest in metal music and how to bend it by messing with different music styles. There are so many styles to get inspired by and when this is combined with dark metal music, there is something great to expect. We respect all styles of music as a great art form. -A
11.What are some of your non musical interests?
We all have our own interests. Each of us does a different thing, but the idea is that we get our thoughts out of music for a while. However, our music follows us for the rest of our lives.-A
Some of us try to build our own instruments and some of us actually does succeed in it. -V
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
The last couple of years have been difficult for the whole world and the near future does not seem any better. So let’s take good care of ourselves, our loved ones and especially those who are not as fortunate as we are. The world is desperate for peace, love and mercy. -V

Sumerian Tombs Interview
1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
The band was originally planned as a solo project, which I started in 2019 without any ambition. In the course of the development of the songs also developed a collaboration with W on vocals, because he fit better from the voice color to the songs. From there it was only a small step to look for a full line-up.
2.So far you have released a demo and have a full length coming out in March, musically how do they both differ from each other?
Lyrically, the demo is the prequel to the album itself. For those who read lyrics, this will be a pretty smooth transition. Therefore we tried to keep the demo more on the “raw” side and expand upon this with the album. Since the demo still had Astrega helping out on drums, the songs here are much more orthodox than those on the album. With D on drums we were able to create a much greater variability in the songs, which is not to minimize Astrega's playing on the demo, because that fit like a glove.
3.You also refer to your music as being 'vampyric black metal', can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in Vampirism?
First of all, we don't see ourselves thematically with bands like Cradle Of Filth or Ancient, as much as we like various works of the bands….partly at least.
Vampires or evil bloodsucking spirits are/were always a manifestation of fear and terror in human history since ancient times. The fascination here is the combination of the demonic and the human. Be it the Greek Lamien to the modern vampire myths as we know them today. With the Ekimmu or Edimmus from Mesopotamia, a first reference to the development of the modern vampire is found.
Lyrically, it is mainly about the power of blood associated with vampirism, channeled through rituals
4.The bands name and a lot of the lyrics deal with Sumerian themes, can you tell us a little bit more about which aspects of the Sumerian culture and mythology you cover with your lyrics?
We do not see ourselves as archaeologists telling a historical story but rather as modern fictional folklorists. The Sumerian history and religious mythology offers us a possibility. It should sound as authentic as a folklore, but also offer the fascination of a fiction.
5.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
The cover shows a pilgrim entering an ancient Sumerian Tomb - or Ziggurat if you will. These ruins represent a central aspect of the journey: Here lie the remains of the ancient blood gods, which were treated in the lyrics of the demos. What will the pilgrim find? The artwork basically sets the scene of the whole album. You can even hear the steps of the pilgrim as he enters the tomb in the intro track.
6.Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea?
There have been no live shows yet. The reasons for this should be clear to everyone. However, we have a first show in Berlin in December 2022 at the De Mortem Et Diablous in prospect. A real honor, if you look at the fantastic line-up. 2023 will then hopefully offer more opportunities.
7.So far the band has worked with Helhallen' and 'Van Records', do you feel these 2 labels have been very helpful when it comes to getting your music out there heard?
We consider both labels as our partners in crime. Without both labels Sumerian Tombs would not exist in its current form. Both labels keep our backs free for our creativity. What more can you expect.
8.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
The reactions so far have been good to very good. In such an oversaturated market as the metal scene is and with very many and exciting releases, especially in black metal, this is more than you can expect. But we are also strongly convinced of our music and want it to be heard.
9.Are any of the band members currently involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?
First of all, we wanted to keep this project anonymous as long as possible. This should make it possible to listen to the music without any expectations and we also wanted to try to make a name without the typical name dropping.
This attempt of anonymity can clearly be considered as a failure. On Metal Archives baseless connections were made, which only lead to confusion. So let's start to unravel the whole thing:
D plays drums with and also with Beltez and Damage Source. I myself am guitarist with Beltez. M as our guitarist is also a drummer from the Aachen Black Metal band Ius Talionis. C plays bass with us as well as with the horror punk band Hellgreaser and the death metal band SKUM. Last but not least W is the vocalist of this band as we as for the death metal band VALKYR.
10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We have written three new songs so far. Of course, these represent a further development but in essence this is just a focusing of the style.
11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Black metal, death metal, punk and any kind of dark music. That should be the consensus among all. There are various bands that have influenced us musically, but to name them all here I think is not purposeful.
Counter question, what do you think, which influences we could have, if you listen to our music?
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have an final words or thoughts?
Thanks for the opportunity to briefly introduce ourselves.

North/From The Dark Past/Black Death Production/2021 CD Re-Issue Review
This is a review of another recording from Poland's North which continues the raw style of pagan black metal from the previous reviewed release and the album was originally released in 1998 and called "From The Dark Past" which was re-issued in 2021 by Black Death Production.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the vocals being mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams and some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while the guitar riffing is very power chord orientated. When guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style along with some songs also adding in a small amount of clean playing as well as the riffs also adding melodies in certain sections of the recording as well as one song also introducing spoken word parts into the music, as the album progresses a brief use of synths can also be heard.
On this recording North showed a great amount of progress from t heir previous release and taking there style of raw pagan black metal into a different direction. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Paganism, Nature, Darkness, War and Battle themes.
In my opinion this was another great sounding recording form North and if you are a fan of pagan black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "My Pagan Love" "Through By Blood" and "In The Circle Of kings". 8 out of 10.
