1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never heard of you before? Kyle Maax-Simply put, Metal created by metal heads!
2. How would you describe your musical sound?Kyle Maax- Heavy fuckin' metal! There are bits of eveything in a Maax record always with a strong emphasis on the old school.
3. What is the meaning behind the band name? Kyle Maax- Nothing in particular just a menacing cool name,no demonic "booger eater" basement BM reference or anything..ha ha!
4. What are some of the best live shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance? Kyle Maax- some of the smaller local pub gigs have been some of the best for us,shit always gets broke,blood,women and a whole lot of fun,that seems to be a bad word in metal but we have a blast when the gig is firing on all cylinders man! Ya know in a slutty debaucherous kinda way. Maax plays with a kind of venomous strike,we try to come out swinging and keep it up throughout the whole gig,attitude and appearance are important to us and I don't mean in the forest dwelling corpse painted creature of the night kinda way...more in the pissed off biker kinda way out for a shot of whiskey and a piece of ass!
5. Do you have any touring plans for the future? Kyle Maax- Touring is a difficult animal to tame,it all comes down to $$$ but our hopes are to hit a festival circuit and European festivals would be the ultimate and I think our sound would go over very well performing live in Europe.
6. How would you describe the lyrical content of the music? Kyle Maax- A very wide range of topics from Luciferian thought forms to your standard hellraisers and beer drinking anthems.
7. When I listened to your debut album it was more straight froward black metal and the new one is black/thrash what made you decide to go in that direction and what direction do you see the music heading into on future releases?Kyle Maax- It was a statement to ourselves and some past musical projects/members ya know,were not stopping and this is what were gonna do. By we I mean the drummer(James "Jeff" Brown) and myself. Maax was us stepping away and doing our own thing and the first album "Dawnbringer" was just that, however the black/thrashy elements were there just not as full on and some of the songs on the "Six Pack" EP were written during that time we just were a little unsure of recording them during that particular recording session and I'm glad we waited honestly.
8. Are there any side projects besides this band, if so who are they and what kind of music do they play? Kyle Maax- There were for most of us but Maax is the main vehicle now except Maax Bass player Jeremy Starkey who is the founder and guitar player for another local Death Metal group Necrophagous and are still very much active.
9. Both of your current releases came out on Abyss Records, how would you describe the support so far, and what is it like being on a local label? Kyle Maax- It's great so far! The lable is honest and he(Dan Ferguson/Abyss Records) really believes in his bands and were all in this together and growing together and the more we grow and promote etc. the more we gain both band and lable. Our next release will most likely be on Abyss Records very very soon!
10. How has the feedback been so far to your music by black metal and thrash fans worldwide?Kyle Maax- Its been better with the new EP "Six Pack Witchcraft" it seems to be a little more to the liking of a broader metal listening community,there is a little something for every fan of extreme "underground" music with this EP from Motorhead to Darkthrone.
11. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and what are you listening to nowadays? Kyle Maax- Well as I mentioned before Old School be it NWOBHM to Black Metal to Rock & Roll and so on,each member has an array of musical likings but we all have a common bond with the Metal of Maax.
12. Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in the music?Kyle Maax- Luciferian somewhat but I would have to say less now than we used to but yes it's still present and I imagine it will always be that way. We just don't want to tread into some of the stereo typical waters that are associated with most BM bands.
13. What are some of your interests outside of music?Kyle Maax- Everyone of us different...Sports to Motorcycles.
14.
