Jarnvidr Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?
hails from France! Jarnvidr at the base, was born from the spirit of Vastara. It's a project of pagan black metal, which asserts its membership of Normandy.

2.A couple of years back you had released a full length, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
Vastara composed guitars and  drums, it sought first of all, somebody to make the bass lines, I proposed to him to record the vocals, by the same occasion.
We wanted songs effective, which could clearly translate, musically, our attraction for paganism.

3.Your lyrics cover a lot of Pagan topics, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in Paganism?
My lyrics talk about pagan topics yes, particulary links between paganism and our country, normannia, and its history...our traditions come from northmen...i wanted to affirm my opposition to monotheism, to christiannity through these topics.

4.Both of the band members have been involved in other bands or musical projects, what is it that you bring out with this musical project that you are not able to do in your other groups or projects?
yes, we are both involved in others bands, Vastara wanted to experiment a black metal project. Personnaly, i already had a pagan black metal project called Asphodeles, my first one man band.
I found that the composition of Vastara, corresponded exactly so that I wanted to express. That enabled me to work differently, to have an external point of view.

5.Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you open to expanding the line up or do you prefer to remain a duo?
Jarnvidr was born only for studio recording, so we prefer remaining a duo. in future, may be we could play live, it could be pleasant..but not for the moment.

6.Can you tell us a little bit about " Le rêve de Molasar"?
This collective was created, after suicide of Molasar (P.H.T.O, Suicidal Madness) in January 2011.
The purpose of it, is to honor his memory, and to make continue, the love which he had for the music!!!

bands of collective are:

P.H.T.O
ASPHODELES
SOMBRE CROISADE
BLUKOVLA
SUICIDAL MADNESS
LOUP NOIR
VILS SERPENTS
TEMPLE
DERNIER SOUFFLE SEPTEM

actually, we are 6 members in the collective:
Me (Alrinack), Saddy, Malsain, Psycho, Ogmios, Sekt.

7.One of the band members is involved with many different bands or musical projects, where do you find the time to be involved with all these different groups or projects?
Yes, i'm involved in many bands and projects, its for me a catarsis, by this way, i can express all feelings that cross my spirit and body...hate, nihilism, melancolia, depression...it represent some many work, but with an organisation, all is possible, i give some priorities, some projects don't have time pression...i do with labels, partneers...

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black and pagan metal?
since two years, on worlwide, through reviews....feedbacks of "passeur des temps" are pleasant, and positive. they give to me, desire to do a pursuit to jarnvidr, if even, Vastara is ok to continue it.

9.What is going on with the other bands or musical projects these days?
These days, some work are in progress. We are composing new albums for P.H.T.O and Suicidal madness and Uluun. I'm finishing the third demo of Loup noir, and i'm looking labels to release opus of Temple and Asphodeles. Since one month, i'm working with Kim serrano (ex- perennial isolation) on an atmospheric/depressive black metal opus...
Many live projects are in work too (uluun tour, Ysengrin...)

10.When can we expect another album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Like i said before, i esper that we'll record another album for Jarnvidr.

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
i'm musician since many years, and so, i listen various musics, not only metal and black metal...i listen so much atmospheric black metal, many ambient projects, always old school black metal, but also  folkorics, shamanics sounds...all are influences, in my conception of musical expression!

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
to conclude, thank you for giving me this space of expression! support to underground black metal scene, like yours, is very important! continue your work!!
Hails to black metal, war is near!!

Jarnvidr/Passeur De Temps/Satanath Records/Le Crepuscle du Soir Productions/2013 CD Review

Jarnvidr  not  to  be  confused  with  the  band  from  Sweden  of  the  same  name  are  a  band  from  France  that  plays  a  pagan  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their 2013  album  "Passeur De Temps"  which  was  released  as  a  joint effort  between  Satanath  Records  and  Le Crepuscle du Soir Productions.

Thunder  and  rain  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  atmospheric  synths  and  after  a  minute  the  music  goes  into  more  of  a  raw  black  metal  direction  along  with  some grim  screams  and  deep  growls  can  also  be  heard  at  times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  are  utilized  and  when  they  mix  the  synths  in  with  the  heavier  parts  it  gives  the  music  more  of  an  epic  feeling  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  at  times  the  riffs  get  very  melodic  along  with  some  clean  playing  and  spoken  word  parts  being  utilized  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  music  also  brings  in  a  90's  black  metal  at  times.

Jarnvidr  plays  a  style  of  pagan  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  epic  while  also  being  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  second  wave  style,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  French  and  cover  Paganism  themes.

In  my  opinion  Jarnvidr  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw,  pagan  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Combats"  "Delectation"  and  "Passeur  De  Temps".  8  out  of  10.
