Ofermod/Acherontas/Black Altar/Drakonian Elitism/Odium Records/2023 3 Way Split Album Review

 

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Sweden's  Ofermod,  Greece's  Acherontas  and  Poland's  Black  Altar  called  "Drakonian  Elitism"  which  will  be  released  in  December  by  Odium  Records  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Ofermod  who  return  with  their  orthodox  style  of  occult  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  ritualistic  soundscapes,  synths, choirs  and  spoken  word  parts  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  and  all  of  the  instruments  on  their  side  of  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.\

  Vocals  are mostly  grim  yet  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  melody.  The  songs  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  of  the  riffing  also  showing  an  influence  of  death  metal,  shouts  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  The  Drakonian  Current,  Demonology  and  the  Left  Hand  Path.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from Ofermod  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  orthodox  and  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Agios  Ischyros  Belial".

  Next  up  is  Black  Altar  who  return  with  an  orthodox  and  occult  style  of  black  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  some  ritualistic  sounding  synths  and  bells  along  with  some  choirs  and  clear  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction.  Grim  black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  their  side  of  the  recording  and  blast  beats  are  also  added  into  the  faster  sections  of  the  song.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  tremolo  picking  is  added  into  the  faster  riffing  they  also  give  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  also  adding  in  more  of  a  melodic  style   The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Draskonian  Current  and  Sitra  Achra  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Black  Altar  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "The  oracle  of  Divine  madness".

  Closing  the  split  is  Acherontas  who  return  with  their  occult style  of  black  metal,

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  a  very  heavy ,  dark  and  melodic  sound  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  their  side  of  the  split  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  as  well  as  the  second  track  also  going  into  more  of  a  ritualistic  and  experimental  direction  which  also  adds  in  spoken  word  poarts  and  chant.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Drakonian  Current  and  Magick  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Acherontas  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Intra  Psyche".  

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  occult  black  metal.  8/5  out  of  10.

ΑΧΕΡΟΝΤΑΣ/The Seven Tongues Of ΔΑΗΜΩΝ/Zazen Sounds/2022 Full Length Review

 

  ΑΧΕΡΟΝΤΑΣ  formerly  known  as  'Acherontas'  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  an  occult  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2022  ALBUM  "The  Seven  Tongues  Of   ΔΑΗΜΩΝ"  which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Zazen  Sounds.

  Ritualistic  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  takes  the  recording  into  a  heavier  direction.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  also  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  chaotic  style  while  angry  shouts  can  also  be  heard  at  times.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Melodies  are  also  added  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments.  When  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  they  also  enhance  the  ritualistic  atmosphere  of  the  recording  as  well as  one  of  the  songs  also  introducing  melodic  chants  and  vocals  onto  the  album,  some  of  the  tracks  also  show  an  influence  of  70's  rock  and  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  Seven  Gods,  Seven  Hells  and  Destinations  from  a  Left  Hand  Path  and  Occult  perspective.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  ΑΧΕΡΟΝΤΑΣ(Acherontas)  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  occult  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Lucifer-Breath  Of  Fire"  "Satan-Exaltation  Of  Unbeing"  and  "Hecate-Queen  of  The  Crossroads".  8/5  out  of  10.

Acherontas/Amenti/W.T.C/2013 CD Review

  Acherontas  are  a  band  from  Greece  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric,  heavy,  dark,  melodic,  raw  and  primitive  from  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album  "Amenti"  which  was  released  by  W.T.C.

  Drums  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  drumming  with  some  blast  beats  being  utilized  at  times,  while  the  keyboards  bring  a  very  dark,  atmospheric,  avant  garde  and  occult  sound  to  the  music  along  with  some  ritualistic  sound  effects,  as   for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  dark  tone  with  riffs  that  follow  the  riffing  that  are  coming  out  of  the  guitars.

  Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow,  mid  paced  to  fast  occult  black  metal  riffs  that  utilize  some  raw  and  primitive  elements  as  well  as  some  dark  sounding  melodies  in  the  riffing,  while  the  lead  guitars  are  very  dark  and  melodic  sounding  black  metal  guitar  solos  and  leads,  as  for  the  acoustic  guitars  when  they  are  utilized  they  use  finger  picking  and  full  chords  to  add  more  esoteric,  exotic  and  ritualistic  occult  elements  to  the  recording.

  Vocals  range  from  grim  sounding  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  to  deep  demonic  growls  as  well  as  some  clean  singing,  spoken  word  parts,  and  occult  ritualistic  chanting,  while  the  lyrics  cover  Egyptian  Occultism,  Alchemy  and Left  Hand  Path  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  dark,  heavy,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it  with  some  of  the  songs  being  long  and  epic  in  length.

  In  my  opinion  Acherontas  are  very  great  sounding  dark,  melodic,  raw  and  primitive  occult  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Amenti  -The  Lamp  Ov  The  Desert"  "Set  Triumphant  -  Nubti"  and  "Wines  Of  Blood  And  Pestilence".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
