Ruho/The Devout Thrum/Fallen Temple/2019 CD Review

  Finland's  Ruho  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  raw  and  old  school  style  of  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album "The  Devout  Thrum"  which  was  released  by  Fallen  Temple.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Dark  sounding  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

    A  lot  of  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  classic  Finnish  style  but  still  capturing  a  very  modern  day  aggression  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  raw  yet  melodic  style.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  occultism  and  anti  Christianity  themes.

   In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Ruho  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Vestigial  Rites"  and  "Devoured  To  Dust".  8  out  of  10.

Ruho/Mouth Of Extinction/Truimph Of Death/2016 EP Review

  Ruho  are  a  band  from  Finland  that has  had  their  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  ep  "Mouth  Of  Extinction"  which  was  released  by  Triumph  Of  Death.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  ep  before  getting  more  distorted  and  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction  that  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking,  blast  beats  and  high  pitched  screams  as  well  as  mixing  in  a  great  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies  and  you  can  also b eat  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on the  recording.

  Most  of  the  music  is  rooted  in  the  90's  second  wave  era  of  the  genre  and  clean  playing  also  makes  a  return  in  certain  sections  of t he  recording  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  some of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  stick  to  a  very  dark,  raw  and  melodic  style.

  Ruho  creates  another  recording that  remains  true  to  the  raw  and  old  school  Finnish  black  metal  style  of  previous  releases,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  Occultism  and  Anti  Christianity  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ruho  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw  and  old  school  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Remnants  Of  Wisdom"  and  "Perpetual  End".  8  out  of  10.

Ruho/Pathways Through Flesh/Bestial Burst/2015 CD Review

  Ruho  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  very  dark  and  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Pathways  Through  The  Flesh"  which  was  released  by  Bestial  Burst.

  Clean  yet  distorted  playing  starts  off  the  album  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  the  music  goes  into  a  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction  along  with  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  grim,  high  pitched  screams  and  the  musical  style  goes  for  more  of  the  90's  second  wave  style  as  well  as  utilizing  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  hear  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to t hem  and  some  of  the  slow  riffs  have  a  doom  metal  feeling  to  them  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  give  the  music  more  of  a  melodic  vibe  and  clean  playing  also  makes  a  return  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  one  track  brings  in  a  spoken  word  parts  and  they  close  the  album  with  an  instrumental  track.

  Ruho  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  raw  and  old  school  in  the  second  wave  tradition,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  are written  in  a  mixture  of  Finnish  and  English  and  cover  darkness  and  anti  Christian  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ruho  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Descending  Below"   and  "Blood  Hides  The  Way".  8  out  of  10.
