Athanor Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new split?


Lord of War: hail, after the recording of ep Wagon of doom we working on new stuff more old death black metal orientedis my choice to singing with a scream more growl and more low tuned guitars to create a mood and groove very heavy...the split cd with winterhearth is a great masterpiece for the underground extreme music and we are proud for the interest of narcoleptica prodsyou are great!!!

2.In January you where a part off a split, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?


Lord of War: yes, the sound of tracks on new split is more groove direction to difference of past releases, Athanor become more mastodontic!!!



3.The band has been around since 1998 but is not very well known, do you prefer to remain very underground after all of these years?

lord of war: Athanor are a black metal cult band from 1998 and we are proud to have many true underground supporters everywhere, above all south america the support of foreign metal maniacs is great!!! many underground label are always proud to repress old our stuff, and we are grateful for this...


4.Your lyrics cover some Satanic and Occult topics, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the black arts?

lord of war: always Athanor are fire, obscure, necrotic and occult rites and we spread our black plague to all!!!



5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name Athanor?


lord of war: Athanor to represent the fire, the fire of holy HELL!!!!



6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

lord of war: many shows in italy and a good european tour very crazy with Emptyness, Asmodeus, and Mordagor, fucking amazing and dangerous!!!



7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

lord of war: actually i'm writing new very hot new stuff and estimate new members for the next gigs



8.A few years back you did a Mortuary Drape cover, what was the decision behind doing your own version of one of their songs?

 lord of war: mortuary drape are a great and old italian black metal, wildness perversion are a great, we have recorded a very brutal song called evil death for a tribute compilation called "solve et coagula" on tape.



9.Recently you where a part off a split with Winterhearth, what are your thoughts on the other band that had participated on the recording?

lord of war: winterhearth strike hard!!! great band!!! support!!!



10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

lord of war: great! many true underground supporters out of italy,lord Sabathan (ex Enthroned) are a great supporter, and have singed in 2 tracks in the Darkness hate and cosmic holocaust, produced by satanic records and diabolus production from Mexico...


11.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you seethe band heading into musically during the future?

lord of war: for a full length we wait a good offering by some label, because the next full have many songs and are heavy and expensive for us produce it alone we forward always for our dark path, from past, present and future!!!



12.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part off?

lord of war: i dont care...Athanor is a my creature from 1998,i think only for the advance of it, nothing bureaucracy.





13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?


lord of war: the great albums of the great bands of '80s like venom, possessed, bathory, hellhammer/celtic frost, slayer, first thrash american and teutonic, the death and black metal of first '90s...



14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

lord of war: yes, thanx to all true supporters of athanor everywhere, we are still and always here to spread our infernal assault!!!

Athanor/Winterhearth/Narcoleptica Productions/2015 Split Cassette Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  cassette  between  Italy's  Athanor  and  Canada's  Winterhearth  which  was  released  by  Narcoleptica  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Athanor  a  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  satanic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  off  with  medieval  torture  sounds  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  black  metal  direction  that  also  uses  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  deep  death  metal  growls  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  after  awhile  black  metal  screams  and  melodies  find  their  way  into  the  songs  along  with  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  At  times  the  music  brings  in  a  touch  of  thrash  metal  and  the  solos  and  leads  also  enhance  the  death  metal  side  of  the  bands  musical  style   and  as  their  side  of  the  split  progresses   whispers  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording,  the  production  sound s very  dark  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  death,  necrotism,  Satanism  and  Occultism.

  In  my  opinion  Athanor  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  satanic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "New  Order's  lords"  and  "Human  Rottenness  For  Hell".

  Next  up  is  Winterhearth  a  band  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  technical  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  off  with  acoustic  guitar playing  and  a  small  amount  of  flutes  that  gives  the  music  a  70's  rock  feeling  and  a  few  seconds  later  distorted  yet  melodic  guitar  leads  are  added  into  the  music  which  slowly  starts  to  lead  up  to  more  of  a  fast  and  raw  black/thrash  metal  sound  that  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  and  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  touch  of  early  Kreator  style  screams  and  the  music  mixes  a  mid  80's  technical  thrash  style  in  with  a  more  raw  and  second  wave  style  of  black  metal  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  all  of  th e musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  satanism,  occultism,  death,  life,  anti  Christianity,  life  and  philosophy.

  In  my  opinion  Winterhearth  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  technical  mixture  of  black  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Tarot  Cards".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  black,  death  and  thrash  metal.  8  out  of  10.
