Granitader/Schlachtenklang/Purity Through Fire/2025 EP Review

 

  Granitader  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  melodic,  atmospheric  and  old  school  form  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2025  ep  "Schlachtenklang"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  Acoustic  guitars  and  folk  instruments  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and  raw  musical  direction  which  also  utilizes  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  a  mixture  of  grim  black  metal  screams,  angry  shouts  and  clear  pagan  metal  singing  and  the  riffs  also  add  in a   lot  of  melody.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  while  the  recording  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  old  school  era.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  synths  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  tracks,  growls  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  On  this  recording  Granitader  brings  out  a  very  epic,  melodic  and  atmospheric  style  of  pagan  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  Nordic  Mythology  and  Nature  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Granitader  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  melodic  and  old  school  pagan  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  ep  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "In  die  Schlacht".  8  out  of  10.

Granitader/Der Wald zwischen den Welten/Purity Through Fire/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Granitader  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  a  very  atmospheric,  melodic  and  old  school  form  of  pagan  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Der  Wald  zwischen  den  Welton"  which  will  be  released  on  March  21st  by  Purity  Through  Fire.

  The  sounds  of  battle  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  playing,   keyboards  and  spoken  word  parts  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  while  the  album  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  mid  90's  to  early  2000's  pagan  style.  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  you  can  also  hear a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  tracks  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Growls  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording,  keyboards  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  music  at  times  and  one  track  also  introduces  folk  instruments  and  clear  singing  onto  the  album.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  German  and  cover  Nordic  Paganism,  German  History  and  Nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Granitader  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric,  melodic  and  old  school  pagan  black  metal b and  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Heimat"  "Nathan"  and  "Netsche".  8 out  of  10.
