Epitimia/Allusion/Onism Productions/2020 Full Length Review

Russia's  Epitimia  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows the music  going  into  more  of  an  atmospheric  post black  metal  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Allusion"  which  will  be  released  in  October  by  Onism  Productions.

Atmospheric  soundscapes  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  playing  and  programmed  beats  which  also  introduce  elements  of  post  rock  onto  the  recording  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction.  A  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.

The  riffs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  melody while  all  of  the  musical instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  When  the  music  speeds  up a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  along  with  some  violins  also  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  as  well  as  a  later  track  also  adding  acoustic  guitars  onto  the  album  which  also  adds  in  a  touch  of folk  music,  clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  growls  can  also  be  hears.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  inner  struggle  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Epitimia  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Animist"  "Altered  State  Of  Consciousness"  and  "Post  Scriptum".  8  out  of  10.

Acoustic  guitars  start  of f the  album  and  they  bring  in  elements  of  folk  music  while  atmospheric  sounding  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  very  fast  and r aw  musical  direction  which  also  uses  a  great  amount  do  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  along with  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.

A  great  amount  of  melody  can  also  be  heard  in  the  guitar  riffing  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  being  done  in  a  very  melodic style,  acoustic  guitars  and  atmospheric  elements  are  also brought  onto  of  the  later  tracks  and  one  song  also  introduces  clean  vocals  onto  the  recording  and  touches  of  post  metal  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  leads.

On  this  recording  Epitimia  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  modern  and  atmospheric  sounding  while  the  post  rock,  and  dark  folk  elements  makes  the  music  stand  out  a  lot  more,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  a  monumental  depection  of  man's  inner  experiences

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Epitimia  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Downfall"  and  "The  Tree".  8  out  of  10.

Epitimia/Gmork/Солнечный ветер / Четыре сезона/NitroAtmosfericum Records/2010 Split CD Review

This is a review of a split album from Eptimia and Gmork 2 black metal bands from Russia called "Солнечный ветер / Четыре сезона" and we will start of the review with Epitimia a band that plays ambient black metal.

Drums are all slow to mid paced drumming with some fast playing and blast beats, while the synths bring a very dark ambient sound to the music as well as some parts that have a ethnic feeling to them, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them.

Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced riffs that combine ambient black metal with melodic black metal, while the lead guitars are very raw, primitive and melodic sounding black metal guitar solos, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use finger picking to enhance the darkness that is coming out of the guitars.

Vocals are mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams mixed in with some deep growls and a brief spoken word part, while the lyrics are written in Russian and cover nature themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.

In my opinion Epitimia are a very great and original sounding ambient black metal band that offers something new to the genre in addition they haave the best music on this split and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Melancolia I" and "Безликое свечение". RECOMMENDED

Next up is Gmork a band that plays a very dark and depressive from of black metal.

Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with some fast playing or blast beats and there is no use of a bass guitar on their side of the recording with the music using 2 guitarists instead, as for the synths when they are utilized they bring a very dark ambient/classical sound to the music.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to some black metal riffs that are very dark, raw, primitive and depressive sounding while the lead guitars when they utilized are very primitive and melodic sounding black metal guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use finger picking to enhance the darkness that is coming out of the music.

Vocals are all grim sounding black metal screams, while the lyrics are written in Russian with themes that cover Nature, Misanthropy and Death, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.
