Epikoros are a band from Atlanta, Georgia that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2025 demo "Spear of Vengeance".
A very fast and raw sound starts off the demo along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music is also very heavily rooted in the classic European tradition and the solos and leads are also done in a very chaotic style.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing. Most of the demo focuses on a faster direction with only a small amount of slow or mid tempo sections, growls are also utilized at times and clean playing is also added on the closing track.
Epikoros plays a style of black metal that is very fast, raw and traditional sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Anti-Abrahamic Religions, Mythology and Nihilism themes.
In my opinion Epikoros are a very great sounding raw black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Immaculate Deception" and "For The Fallen". 8 out of 10.
