Kostnatění/Přílišnost (Excess)/Willowtip Records/2025 Full Length Review

 

  Minnesota's  solo  project  Kostnatění  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  technical  and  progressive  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2025  album  "Přílišnost (Excess)"  which  will  be  released  in  November  by  Willowtrip  Records.

  Stringed  instruments  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavy  and  technical  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  some  synths  also  being  utilized  at  times  and  the  music  also  has  its  progressive  moments.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  be  heard  while  death  metal  growls  are  also  utilized  at  times.  At  times  some  of  the  riffing  also  adds  in  some  dissonant  touches  along  with  the  tremolo  picking  in  the  faster  sections  also  giving  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling,  a  couple  of  songs  also  adds  in  a  small  amount  of  clear  singing   

  On  this  recording  Kostnatění  brings  out  a  very  technical,  progressive,  modern  and  dissonant  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Czech  and  English  and  cover  introspective  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Kostnatění  and  if  you  are  fan  of  dissonant,  progressive  and  technical  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Křehký  bůh  (Fragile  God)"  "Mrtvola  Jupitera  (Corpse of  Jupiter)"  "Znal  jsem  tě (I  Knew  You)"  and  " Přílišnost  (Excess)".  8  out  of  10.

Kostnatění/Úpal/Willowtip Records/2023 FUll Length Review

 

    Kostnatění  are  a  solo  project  from  Minneapolis,  Minnesota  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  goes  for  more  of  a  technical  style  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  African  folk  music  and  noise  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2023  album  "Úpal/"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Willowtip  Records.

  Melodic,  heavy  and  dissonant  riffing  starts  off  the  album  while  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  clear  singing  can  also b e  heard  briefly.  Some  of  the  riffing  also  shows  an  influence  of  noise  rock  along  with  the  tremolo  picking  in  the  fast  riffs  also  giving  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  when  they  are  utilized.

  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  technical  moments  as  well  as  the  melodic  chants  also  bringing  in  elements  of  African  folk  when  they  are  utilized.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Czech  and  cover  the  human  condition  as  a  function  of  heat.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from   Kostnatění  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  dissonant  and  technical  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Belt"  "Opal"  and  "Sun  Bound  To  The  Bleeding  Earth".  8  out  of  10.

Kostnatění/Oheň hoří tam, kde padl/Mystiskaos/Pest/Dissociative Visions/2022 EP Review

 

  Kostnatění  are  a  solo  project  from  the  United  States  that  plays  dissonant  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2022  ep  "Oheň  hoří  tam,  kde  padl"  which  will  be  released  on March  4th  as  a  joint  effort  between  Mystiskaos,  Pest  and  Dissociative  Visions.

  A  very  heavy  yet  dissonant  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  clean  singing  can  also  be  heard  briefly.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Grim  black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  along  with  some  of  the  clean  sections  also  showing  an  influence  of  Turkish  music,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a very  melodic  yet  chaotic  style,  synths  can  also  be  heard  on  the  closing  track.  

  Kostnatění   plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  dissonant  and  aggressive  sounding  as  well  as  being  different  for  the  genre.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Turkish  and  cover  Death  and  Existentialism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Kostnatění   are  a  very  great  sounding  dissonant  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Şu  Dalma' dan  geçtin  mi ".  8  out  of  10.
