For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Hailz Occult Black Metal and thanks for the interest in Abatuar. It all started in Panama on 2013 as a solo project with the intention to lay down ideas I had in mind for a while. On 2014 I recorded the first demo entitled “Vejacion de la Bestia” with the help of some friends on guitar and bass and later on a second demo called “Fosa Comun” came out this year.
So far you have released 2 demo's, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on both of the recordings?
Abatuar’s aim is extreme chaos and obscurity more than playing an specific style and to get there several influences are merged like Grind, Black, Death, Noise, Doom are all melt down together to reach horrible evilness.
What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects that the band explores with the music?
Lyrics are focused on human extermination as a natural beast behavior, it takes some concepts from historical genocides and gruesome annihilations perpetrated by humans or nature, leading to human slaughter.
Pandemic pests, chemical weapons, lethal viruses, wars and similar ways of extermination where sometimes we are predators and sometimes just preys.
What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Abatuar'?
Abatuar or Abattoir means a slaughterhouse for animals but here it represents a slaughterhouse for humans.
Both the metal Archives and Facebook page list only one member in the band while other musicians have been involved with this musical project before, is this band a solo project or are there any plans to hire a full time line up in the future?
You are right, I’ve had collaborations on the strings from Yigo Manzo (Atrofia, Merciless Death) and Anibal Sucre (Enslaver, Hatross) because I am not good at playing guitars so I always need collaborations to record jeje. As of now I have no plans to have a full line up band or playing live, but time will tell.
Dunkelheit Produktionen is releasing both of the demo's on a cd, can you tell us a little bit more about this compilation?
I send a couple of promo tapes to certain labels and some of them showed interest but Dunkelheit was the one who really took the action. I am really satisfied with Bernd’s work so far and I think it will be a great outcome.
On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of extreme and underground metal?
Well, it was well received by most people I guess, most friends supported and some zines and labels too. Both demos already ran out and were shipped out to many foreign countries after many trades basically.

What is going on with your other musical projects these days?
My oldest Black Metal band from 2005 “Equinoxio” is about to release its 3rd full-length by end of year, I also play in “Aberrante” with some good friends making Death/Grind and we are about to start recording our 3rd demo. I also recorded a demo in a trip I made to Spain this year where I met a Peruvian guy (El Conde Negro) in a rehearsal room who had some South American riffs and no drummer so we just decided to record it before I returned to Panama, this Death/Black band was named “Tumba” and the demo was called “DEMO(nio) I”. And finally I recorded the first demo with my most recent project called “Fumigador” (noise/grind) which also released a split tape with “Demonomancer” from El Salvador. All this was released and distributed by PUS Records which is a small tape label I have with Dr. Morbo (Christ Snacks, Aberrante) releasing limited quantities for our own bands mainly.
When can we expect a full length and where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
I am in the preparations to record a full length which is planned to be released by Dunkelheit as well. The album should be ready by end of year or beginning of next year and will continue in the same infamous grind/black way but adding more extremity with Noise chapters.
What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
For Abatuar I would say Repulsion, Napalm Death, Septic Death, Reencarnacion, Blood, Deche Charge, Abhorer, Regurgitate, Sarcofago, Mystifyer, Parabellum, Autopsy.
About nowadays, I always listen to different stuff but to name a few it includes some Noise from Spain and Japan like Genital Masticator, Psychotic Noise, Potabilizadora, Merzbow and some Grind/Death/Doom like Unholy Grave, Nocturnal Vomit, Recrucify, Altar of Giallo, Rator, Morbid Macabre, Mythic, Disembowelment, Rot, Blasfemia (Colombia), Sexorcist (Peru) and old Panamanian metal like Carnivoro Castrador, Christ Snacks, Disemburied, Demacrator, Jefe de la Morgue, Psychosis and others.
How would you describe your views on Satanism and Occultism?
This is a really contextual question jejeje… well, to talk about satan is to talk about god and I don’t believe in any religion so that’s not of my business. On the other hand Occultism is something really vast with many workstreams around the world, in Latin America you can see a mixture of ancient cults like Palo Mayombe, Candomble, Zombification, Black Magic or Santeria which have a really obscure reputation. These topics are really interesting however they are not a direct influence in what I do. The atrocities human hands can do are yet fascinating without the help of the dead.
The band is based in Panama a country not very well known for metal, are there also any other bands or musical projects from your home country that you would recommend?
You are right, we are not popular, actually metal activity here is very low compared to neighbor countries like Colombia or Costa Rica. Old bands I can recommend: Enslaver, Christ Snacks, Spirit of the Deep Waters, Deathless, Schopenhauer, Hecatombe, Sehlah, Cementerius … New ones: Hatross, Atrofia and Ruins of Chritendoom
