Baxaxaxa/Spells From The Crypt/Dusktone/2024 Compilation Album Review

 

  Germany's  Baxaxaxa  have  returned  with  a  compilation  that  displays  their  raw,  old  school,  occult  and  satanic  black  metal  style  over  the  past  2  decades  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Spells  From  The  Crypt"  which  consists  of  1992,  2019  demo's  and  2020  ep.

  A  synth  orientated  intro  starts  off  the  compilation before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Throughout  the  compilation  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  while  dark  sounding  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Synths  also  mix  in  with  the  heavier  sections  of  the  songs  on  a  couple  of  tracks  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  A  couple  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  the  more  recent  material  continuing  to  expand  on  the  style  they  had  introduced  in  the  90's  mixed  in  with  a  more  modern  heaviness,  some  of  the  vocals  also  adapt  a  more  mid  80's  approach.  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  old  school  while  the  lyrics  cover  Anti  Christianity,  occultism  and  Satanism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  collection  from  Baxaxaxa  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  old  school, occult  and  satanic  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  compilation.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Church  Of  The  Antichrist"  "Bells  of  Charon"  and  "Revelation  in  Son".  8  out  of  10.

  Germany's  Baxaxaxa  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  raw,  old  school   style  of  occult  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2023  qlbum  "De  Vermis  Mysteriis"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  The  Sinister  Flame.

  Horror  movie  style  keyboards  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  Most  of  the  music  is  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era  with  some  modern  touches  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast beats  and  tremolo  picking  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  also  remain  true  to  an  old  school  style  and  some  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  On this  recording  Baxasxaxa  remains  true  to  the  raw,  old  school  and  occult  style of  black  metal  that  they  have  established  on  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Baxaxaxa  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  raw,  old  school  and  occult  style  of  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Seed  of  Golgotha"  "Above  The  Steller  Gateway"  and  "Necrolatry  Libation".  8 out  of  10.

  Germany's  Baxaxaxa  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  continues  the  raw,  old  school  and  occult  style  of  satanic  black  metal  from  their  previous  releases  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Catacomb  Cult"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  The  Sinister  Flame.

  Ritualistic  sounds  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  a  heavier  musical  direction  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  dark  sounding  melodies.  Medieval  style  synths  are  also  added  into  some  parts  of  the  recording  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  the  music  is  also  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  era.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  tremolo  picking  also  giving  the  music  more  of  a  raw  feeling  when  they  are  utilized

Baxaxaxa/Devoted To HIM/Iron Bonehead Productions/2020 EP Review

 

  Baxaxaxa  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  very  raw,  old  school  and  satanic  form  of  occult  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  ep  "Devoted  To  HIM" which  was  released  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  90's  influenced  sound  starts  off  the  ep  while  all of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Dark  sounding  melodies are  also  added  into  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  vocals  also  being  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams. 

  Synths  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  at  times  while  one  of  the  tracks  is  also  long  and  epic  in  length.  Both  of  the  songs  also  sound  very  different  from  each  other  along  with  some  demonic  voices  also  being  added  into  the  music  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  song  also  adding  in  some  blast  beats.

  On  this  recording  Baxaxaxa  goes  for  more  of  a  raw  and  old  school  style  of  satanic  occult  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  Satanism,  Occultism  and  Anti  Christianity  themes.

  Baxaxaxa  are  a  band  from  Germany  that  plays  an  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  demo  "The  Old  Evil" which  will  be  released  in  March  by  Iron  Bonehead  Productions.

  In  my  opinion  Baxaxaxa  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  'Sepulchral  Winds  Below"  and  "The  Old  Evil".  8  out  of  10.
