Ævangelist/Perdition Ekstasis Meta/I, Voidhanger Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Finland's  Ævangelist  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  industrial  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of t heir  2024  album  "Perdition Ekstasis  Meta"  which  will  be  released  in  September  by  I,  Voidhanger  Records.

  Dark  soundscapes  start  of  the  album  while  spoken  word  parts  are  also  introduced  into  the  music along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  lot  of  synths.  Industrial  beats  are  also  added  into  the  heavier  sections  of  the  album  at  times  as  well  as  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  screams.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  avant  garde  sounding  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  some  dissonant  structures  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  on  some  of  the  tracks.

  Acoustic  instruments  can  also  be  heard  briefly  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  can  also  be  heard  and  most  of  the  album  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  science  fiction,  theology  and  evolutionary  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Ævangelist  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  industrial,  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Fountainhead"  "Metaphor  Of  Ominous  Science"  and  "Ekstasis  Divanae".  8  out  of  10.

Ævangelist/Simulacra Retrospectræ/I, Voidhanger Records/2023 Live Album Review

 

  Finland's  Ævangelist  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  an  industrial  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  with  some  avant  garde  and  psychedelic  elements  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  live  2023  album  "Simulacra  Retrospectræ"  which  was  released  by  I,  Voidhanger  Records.

  Spoken  word  parts  and  industrial  sounds  start  off  the  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction  while  the  vocals  are  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls.  The  onyl  song  that is  presented  on  the  recording  is  over  30  minutes  in  length  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  Synths  and  programming  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the album also  has  its  psychedelic  and  avant  garde  moments.  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  sounding  along  with  the  faster  sections  also  adding  in  a decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  you  can  also h ear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

  On  this  recording  Ævangelist   take s black,  death  metal,  industrial,  avant  garde  and  psychedelic  music  and  mix  them  together  to  create  a  very  diverse  recording.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Esotericism  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ævangelist   and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  industrial,  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  live  album.  8  out  of  10.

Ævangelist/Dream An Evil Dream III/Dead Seed Productions/2021 CD Review

 

  U.S.A/France/Finland's Ævangelist  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  dark  and  esoteric  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Dream  An  Evil  Dream  III"  which  will  be  released  in  February  by  Dead  Seed  Productions.

  Dark  soundscapes  and  synths  start  off  the  album  while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Dissonant  structures  can  also  be  heard  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  sonly  track  present  on  this  recording  being  over  46  minutes  in  length.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  album  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  bring  in  a  mixture  of  death  metal  growls  and  black  metal  screams.  Dark  sounding  melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  progressive  and  technical  moments.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Ævangelist  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  black  and  death  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  8  out  of  10.

Ævangelist/Nightmarecatcher/Hells Headbangers/2020 CD Review

  Ævangelist  are  a  duo  with  members  from  France  and  Finland  that  has  had  an  album  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  a  psychedelic  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Nightmarecatcher"  which  will  be  released  on  February  28th  by  Hells  Headbangers.

  Melodic  guitar  leads  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  playing  in  the  background  while  all  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Stringed  instruments  can  also  be  heard  briefly   while  spoken  word  parts  can  also  be  heard  briefly  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  grim  sounding  screams.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  and  avant  garde  sounding  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Elements  of  death  metal  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  blast  beats  onto  the  recording,.

 At  times  the  music  also  captures  an  improv  atmosphere  as  well as  the music  also  having  its  psychedelic  moments,  melodies  can  also  be  heard  in  some  of  the  guitar  riffing,  clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  in  the  background  briefly  and  most  of  the music  sticks  to  either  a  slow  or  mid  tempo  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  nightmares  and  occultism  themes.

Ævangelist/Enthrall To The Void Of Bliss/20 Buck Spin/2015 CD Review

   

  Ævangelist  are  a  band  with  members  from  both  Oregon  and  Illinois  that  plays  an  occult  and  experimental  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Enthrall  To  the  Void  Of  Bliss"  which  was  released  by  20  Buck  Spin.

  A  very  dark,  distorted  and  melodic  guitar  lead  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  avant  garde  sound  effects  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  the  music  starts  getting  heavier  along  with  a  mixture  of  black  metal  screams  and  death  metal  growls  and  the  faster  sections  bring  in  a great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  At  times  the  music  can  be  very  experimental  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  very  dark  and  melodic  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  there  are  also some  melodic  chants  also  being  utilized  at  times and  the  music  also  mixes  in  a  great  amount  of  atmospheric  elements  and  when  spoken  word  parts  are  utilized  they give  the  music  more  of  a  ritualistic  feeling  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  as  the  album  progresses  elements  of  ambient  can  be  heard  and  saxophones  can  be  heard  on  the  last  track..

   

  Ævangelist plays  a  style  of  black/death  metal  that  is  very  dark  and  experimental  sounding  building upon  the  evil  style  of  the  genre  and  taking  it  to  new  levels,  the  production  sounds  very  dark  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Left  Hand  Path,  and  Mysticism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  

  Ævangelist  are  a  very  great  sounding  experimental  mixture  of  black  and  death  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Arcanae  Manifesta"  "Levitating  Stones"  and  "Manifestation  of  Transcendental  Evil".  8  out  of  10.
