Djevel/Naa Skrider Natten Sort/Aftermath Music/2022 Full Length Review

 

  Norway's  Djevel  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  them  taking  their  Norwegian  style  of  black  metal  into  more  of  an  atmospheric  direction  and  this  is  a  review  of  their 2022  album  "Nass  Skrider  Natten  Sort"  which  will  be  released  on  November  23rd  which  will  be  released  by  Aftermath  Music.

  A  very  dark,  heavy,  melodic  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  synths  can  also be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording.  All  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  vocals  being  mostly  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  and  clear  singing  can  also  be  heard  at  times.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments  as  well  as  some  of  the  tracks  also  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length,  and  also  the  album  progresses  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  on  a couple  of  tracks.

  On  this  recording  Djevel  adds  in  some  more  modern  atmospheric  elements  into  their  Norwegian  style  of  black  metal  without  losing  any  of  the  aggression  o  previous  releases.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  Night  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Djevel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  and  Norwegian  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Naar  taaken  tetner"  "Mitt  tempel  av  stjerner  og  brennade  maaner"  and  "Her  vsner  hver  en  krans".  8  out  of  10.

Djevel/Tanker Som Rir Natten/Aftermath Music/2021 CD Review

 

  Djevel  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  plays  a  Norwegian  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2021  album  "Tanker  Som  Rir  Natten"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  Aftermath  Music.

  A  very  dark  yet  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length  along  with  some  melodic  vocals  also  being  utilized  on  a  few  songs  and  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.

  Grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  while  the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  second  wave  Norwegian  tradition.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  dark  yet  melodic  style  and  clean  playing  can  also  be  heard  in  some  parts  of  the  recording.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  along  with  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  as  well  as  some  acoustic  guitars  also  being  added  on  some  of  the  tracks,  synths  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  as  the  album  progresses an  instrumental  can  also  be  heard  before  returning  back  to  a  heavier  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  Satanism,  Death  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  album  from  Djevel  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  Norwegian  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Maanen  skal  være  mine  øine,  den  skinnende  stierne  mine  ben,  og  her  skal  jeg vandre  til  evig  tid"  and  "Vinger  som  tok  oss  over  en  brennende  himmel,  vinger  som  tok  oss hjem.  8  out  of  10.

Djevel/Ormer Til Armer, Maane Til Hode/Aftermath Music/2019 CD Review

  Djevel  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  Norwegian  style  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2019  album  "Ormer  Til  Armer,  Maane  Til  Hode"  which  will  be  released  on  October  18th  by  Aftermath  Music.

A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  yet  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  along  with  the  riffs  also  adding  in a   decent  amount  of  melody  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  A  great  amount  of  90's  era  Norwegian  influences  can  also  be  heard  in  the  bands  musical  style.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style.

  At  times  the  music  also  evokes  a  very  epic  atmosphere  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  vocals  can  also  be  heard  as  well  as  the  music  also  always  sticking  to  a  heavier  direction.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Norwegian  and  cover  Satanism,  Death  and  Darkness  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Djevel  are  a  very  great  sounding  Norwegian  black  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Et  Menniskes  Hele  Korpus  Og  Legeme"  "Ved  Hildr's  Haand  For  Hel"  and  "Illoyed  Foedt  Som  Satans  Barn,  Paa  Ferd  Uten  Spor  Af  Menneskeverd".  8  out  of  10.
